    The 2 best upgrade in my Rega P3 were : Groovetracer subplatter and zirconium sphere, and the re-cabling the Tonearm RB330 with Litz wire. I use the same Ania MC cartridge with Rega Aria pre-phono. I also installed a RCA connection box on the back of P3 and replaced the RCA cable. Now I'm very happy about sound quality at the end. But thanks for your suggestion about the matt.

      Hi Roberto, I really think the subplatter would be a solid upgrade. Good job on the tonearm re-wire! Also curious about the Aria phono pre.

      Hi Roberto, May I ask what has been the cost of your upgrades thus far and have you noticed an audible sonic difference since the changes were made? 🍻

      @@markdoherty2750 groovetracer subplatter and counterweight you can see on website of Groovetracer find it with google, re-cabling with litz wire around 350 Euro including the connection box RCA also let me suggest also the new TT-PSU with speed regulation. in total around 1000-1100 Euros? About sound quality I'm happy of the final result, more resolution, deep and wide sound stage, and also finally with speed regulation the tonality is more relaxed and correct.

      Hi Roberto. Where did you locate the RCA connection box. I have not been able to find anyone selling them. Please let us know where to find them. Thank you.

    Great video as usual! Keep up the good work, Rega owners will surely benefit from following your suggestions.

    Nice video.....for Rega tuntables , the best isolation by far is the Rega wall bracket !!!!

      That’s what I have been reading. And it makes sense too.

    I'd suggest a spirit level as another essential. Getting your turntable level has a significant effect on the sound.

    The best tip for a Rega Planar turntable is to place it upon a lightweight,rigid table with spike feet. Something like the ' Sound Organisation' used to make. The improvement in performance is dramatic. Same with most loudspeakers too.

  • @67Pepper
    @67Pepper ปีที่แล้ว

    The best platform for a Rega turntable should be light and rigid. There used to be a man named Ken Lyon who made such a platform but has long since retired. "Neuance" was the name of his company. If you see one on the used market, very rare find if you do, buy it. They sell immediately after they post on the used market.
    Symposium Svelte shelf is also very good. Of course a wall mount system is highly recommended, make sure it's a load bearing wall.

    Rega and various other types of turntables are very sensitive to vibrations... you should take that into consideration when looking for a turntable.
    It's better to look for something else if you're going to use it in a vibration rich environment, like a Clearaudio, Technics or Michell Gyrodec.
    But if you really *WANT* a turntable that's sensitive to vibrations, a wall mounted shelf is probably the best thing for isolation if you have stone walls - the isolation platform you showed can be used in combination with that.
    I always like those mirroring protractors, because that way you can avoid optical parallax by looking at the mirrored reflection of the cantilever.

      I am looking for such mirror protractors myself for Rega (Stevenson’s?) . MintLP or Analogue Studio come to mind. Any suggestions?

    • @QoraxAudio
      @QoraxAudio 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@analogholic_reviews I use a basic mirror protractor, the Analogis Just1.
      A more fancier one is the Pro-Ject Align-It.

    Great info - I just purchased the Way Excellent II TT mat from Herbie's Audio Lab for my Rega 3...

      I have used the Herbie Audio LAb in my old Rega P9.....after using it for more than 2 years, one day I tested the original felt mat again.....and did not come back to the Herbie....the original felt keep the high frequencies and soundstage as they should be...believe me...I spent a lot on aftermarket mat...and the original one is the best

    • @analogholic_reviews
      @analogholic_reviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hbaboris I recently noticed something similar. With the Planar 8 + apheta2 setup, i noticed that the felt mat was great. No need to tinker. I thought the funk achromat was slightly better. Not with the Planar 3 though IMHO. The planar 8 with apheta 2 being line contact stylus requires accurate/optimal VTA which is by default given the 3 pt mounting and stock felt mat and better platter for resonance. P3 is different in that aspect. I suspect the same with your P9 given that it is a better TT than P3. What cartridge are you using?

    I have an original p3. Am about to have the tone arm rewired. £170. Is it worth it?

    • @analogholic_reviews
      @analogholic_reviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian, I'm really sceptical that a rewire of the original P3 will improve sonics unless there is repair needed due to damage to the wire. £170 is considerable jack. What cartridge are you using?

    A test LP doesnt let you measure and set a correct Azimuth or Anti Skating necessarily at all. It lets you set an Anti Skate for that test track, not other music, and it balances the Channel Separation, it doesnt mean the stylus has a correct Azimuth, neither does a Fozgometer.

    • @analogholic_reviews
      @analogholic_reviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You may be correct in that bias force varies depending on rpm and distance from spindle. And sure, the azimuth may not be perfect either. But directionally correct is A ok for me.

    Bought a Rega P3 with Elys 2 cartridge. What would you recommend I upgrade first?

    • @analogholic_reviews
      @analogholic_reviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d recommend the Rega Neo PSU first! The P3 is capable of delivering the goods with good MC carts. After the neo, if you can afford the Ania MC and have a good MC phono pre, go for it!

      @@analogholic_reviews thanks for your advice. I was thinking of upgrading to the P8 but I’ve only had my P3 for 5 months and I’m still relatively new to Vinyl so I might take the P3 upgrade route. What can you recommend for MC preamp? Also, I’ve read a lot of good things about the Hana MC carts (incl your review). Would you recommend this cart for pairing with my Focal Kanta speakers which is slightly forward from neutral
