  • Last fall I got to tag along with Matt and Chad on an elk rifle hunt. With high hopes and lots of anticipation, getting on the mountain was such a good feeling. After a long day of scouting, we had our eyes on a big 7x7 to chase. The bull never stepped out and didn't give us an opportunity for 2 full days. We decided to pack up camp, head off the mountain, eat some taco bell, and we slept in the truck with a game plan for the morning. On the third morning we were glassing as the day came to life, and found a herd of elk over a mile away. We knew we had a long hike in and hopefully a heavy pack out so we emptied our packs for the most part, went in light, and had ourselves one of the best days of elk hunting of our lives. Matt filled his tag on his biggest bull to date! I really hope y'all enjoyed this video and I appreciate you watching! I have a couple elk hunts to film this fall which should be epic and will be posted in the future! I'm going into this season with some camera gear, new tactics and a whole lot more inspiration after editing and putting together all of these hunts from last fall! Best of luck to y'all this upcoming hunting season! God bless y'all!

    i just dont know why you guys shoot at elk so dam far away. you could so easily close that gap to at least 400yards. imo anything over 500 yards is not the most ethical shot.

    • @colbydawgmedia
      @colbydawgmedia  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ethangurganus2289 thats why opinions are opinions. these guys practice and know their equipment. people can shoot any weapon at a farther distance than the average hunter if they practice enough and have the right equipment and confidence. everyone has different capabilities. with that opportunity and the hunter knowing he is capable and confident in that shot, why move closer. He should be rewarded for practicing enough, knowing his equipment and making a far shot count when he needed it to. 400 is no different than 800 when it comes to different equipment and different practice amounts/skill/confidence levels

    • @ethangurganus2289
      @ethangurganus2289 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @colbydawgmedia "can" and "should" are totally different. 400 and 800 are absolutely different when you talk about shooting an animal in its vitals with adverse conditions. I'd never tell anyone that they "can't" shoot at that distance, but I sure would ask why and explain the problems I have with it from a hunters perspective. Ensuring a clean kill should be a real hunters #1 priority. And in my strong opinion, shooting one at 700 to 800 yards is not doing that. To each their own, but bullets lose velocity and energy at distance. That equals more room for error on not only the shooter, but the equipment as well.

      @@colbydawgmedia I have a few long range set ups so I'm not casting stones BUT if he practiced at those distances as much as you say, he's not sailing that first one over the back. To answer your question above..."why move closer"....its to reduce the chance of error. Even in the most ideal situations, things can happen. Glad your buddy got his bull, congrats to him & you guys sharing the hunt.

      I don't so much have a problem with folks who are practiced and capable of taking these shots doing it, my concern is others who are not seeing it and thinking it's the thing to do if given the chance. Maybe if you are taking these shots and posting for public consumption take a few minutes and talk about it along with the amount of practice required, etc....
