It can be, to some extent. The pieces themselves are dirt cheap and in green you can ramp with dorks instead of expensive rocks but, as always, it will simply be slower than the full version with all the tutors and rocks.
The first game was so fast. The second game had me feel nervous each turn XD Like when I don't have interaction XD Always asking myself if that draw was the combo draw. Damn. So cool!
@@eric0967 that's not how London mulligan works. 103.4. Each player draws a number of cards equal to their starting hand size, which is normally seven. (Some effects can modify a player's starting hand size.) A player who is dissatisfied with their initial hand may take a mulligan. First, the starting player declares whether they will take a mulligan. Then each other player in turn order does the same. Once each player has made a declaration, all players who decided to take mulligans do so at the same time. To take a mulligan, a player shuffles the cards in their hand back into their library, draws a new hand of cards equal to their starting hand size, then puts a number of those cards equal to the number of times that player has taken a mulligan on the bottom of their library in any order. Once a player chooses not to take a mulligan, the remaining cards become that player's opening hand, and that player may not take any further mulligans. This process is then repeated until no player takes a mulligan. A player can take mulligans until their opening hand would be zero cards. I think you were thinking of the Partial Paris mulligan.
The giant wooden dice are pretty nice for counters/tokens. It’s not made of metal or plastic so. The reflecting light doesn’t make it hard to read, and the size of. The pips and dice are pretty big so they’re clear even from a distance, I like this addition!
Why is Adam running naturalize when there is return to nature and better alt? Also what if instead of the green legend run metallic mimic since u can get more value off it
Metallic Mimic is pretty bad without a more focused tribal theme and that one less toughness can make quite a difference, especially in a game with a considerable amount of pingers like this one. Also, Melira is a hate card against potential infect and opposing -1/-1 counter strategies.
Did I miss something or was he drawing his top off the trigger to draw a card from casting the top? Didn't think you could do that because the trigger goes on the stack in response to the cast, not the ETB so the top isn't actually in play yet when the draw trigger resolves
Persist lines are definitely very vulnerable to many different kinds of control, but that just makes them feel so much better when they end up actually working
I know that lotus petal is strong, but it seems like a lot of these decks are running it. Do y’all think it is worth it in most edge decks, or is there a type of deck that needs that extra explosiveness?
Oh, and turn 1 he cracks it for a Mountain - since he has no forest to go get. Why not just put a mountain in the deck instead and save the 1 life? Is having a fetch so cool that you will trade 1 life for the sake of having it in the deck? At least go get a Steam Vents or Volcanic Island. I'm sorry but that's the dumbest thing I think I've ever seen on this channel.
I play a version of Korvold. I always love when people forget just how big Korvold can get. They're waiting for me to try and combo off but instead I just smack em for 21
Bill could definitely have done some things differently. Instead of using a really preemptive noxious revival on the hulk he should have at least kept it to use it in response to some reanimation, OR just use it on his own Dockside, putting him on top and drawing him to get 5 more treasure to keep going off.
I know thier old and not really that powerful but, I'd love to see the cards that were also turned into Godzilla promos from ikoria be tuned to semi competitive decks sometime in the future. I really liked the ruric thar deck so seeing a Godzilla King of the Monsters deck would be cool. While they both share gruul colors I think they do different styles of beatdown. Then seeing something like an Ghidora pseudo cascade, and brokkos just a monster mayhem theme that has a slight competitive flavor.
Did anyone else notice in the second game, Bill didn't lose 1 life for the polluted delta? I'm sure it wouldn't have affected the outcome of the game but ya never know
Game 2: With grapeshot on the stack, the masticore was sacrificed. You had it return with a persist counter, but I believe Melira was still on board because grapeshot hadn't resolved. Unless I'm missing something Edit: (I misunderstood)
I’m glad you guys had fun. Tell Jordan we could have won the game earlier. And it would help if he had more win cons such as Primal Surge, Green Sun Zenith and
*casts grapeshot me: great, he's gonna get rid of most of the momir vig player creatures, he's way ahead... *kills korvold and disciple of the vault even though there's a ballista in play me: @_@
The korvold was an immediate threat to my life since I was already at 16 commander damage, and I was honestly a bit scared of a removal spell from Adam. If Adam can remove the walking ballista or shut it off with a null rod effect, Bill wouldn't be about to hold that interaction up anymore. Adam had the clear win on board and Bill directly threatened my life total with one combat step, so I didn't really have too many options. Taking care of the most clear threats seemed to be the safest play at the time
Is Jordan running a weird momir vig list? It feels like he should have won with his hacks Excluding the fact that he did win, with a normal hackball list he could have got infinite mana pretty easily once he resolved a hack
Seeing Jordan have slow starts on both games is so satisfying. Usually, he rolls straight out with a mana crypt and 2-3 other rocks turn 1. And he never should have won that second game. He is clearly the threat towards the end and no one ever tried to slow him down. Stop letting Jordan win. Make him work for it instead of handing him games. Too many times do the players here just give games away because threat assessment is weak.
Given that he didn’t search up the seer later when he actually sacrificed the hulk it’s likely that it was in his graveyard, and the deck doesn’t play any other creature based sac outlets because Varolz is usually in play to begin with.
I never understand why people cast mana crypt without using it straight away or unless you have blue mana open for a counter. It’s a needless 3 damage.
An opponent can have a remora, a tax effect or a wheel and then suddenly your crypt costs 3 or gets discarded away. It feels real bad and 3 damage is nothing in comparison.
There are so many confusing decisions in the deckbuilding for the Momir Vig list. Why are you running Beast Whisperer? It's just a worse version of Vizier of the Menagerie. Why bloom tender? Craterhoof Behemoth is an insanely dead card and not run in almost every other Momir list. Walking Ballista? Thassa's Oracle? The list just goes on and on.
Wow what a crazy game 2!! Great job putting this video together, Joseph! Thank you for discovering a new passion for edh
I luv the varloz deck seems like it could be budget
It can be, to some extent. The pieces themselves are dirt cheap and in green you can ramp with dorks instead of expensive rocks but, as always, it will simply be slower than the full version with all the tutors and rocks.
Bill totally could've just iced Joseph with his Korvold instead of taking out Saheeli and eliminated a threat.
I think he wanted to keep him around to help deal with Adam because up to that point Joseph wasn't really a threat whereas Adam had been repeatedly.
Game 2 was an absolute blast, so much nutty plays and great interaction.
It was a blast.
A red elemental blast
That second game was craaaaazy! Highly enjoyable vid as per usual
Collector Ouphe's flavor text was quite on point with this game!
I did not know there was an opportunity to destroy gilded drake with a kill spell to stop the exchange. Learned something new today
It's because of the word Exchange having special meaning in the rulebook.
@@leovoldoftrest9987 ok, I'll have to remember that when I see the word exchange

Loved this pod! A great combination of decks and good games!
How do you guys always have crazy good hands? Like I have never seen so many people get turn 1 mana crypts so often as you guys

also london mulligan they keep the best cards, shuffle the bad ones and draws the difference.

Really fun game. Not hyper competitive, but that made it really unpredictable. Nice game.

Jamming necropotence when you have 2 life. Goddamn legend 🤙
Adam could've waited until the Lesser Masticore came back before he sacrificed Melira to Varolz.
I love persist shenanigans. I never had much luck getting them to work, though... :/
Persist lines are definitely very vulnerable to many different kinds of control, but that just makes them feel so much better when they end up actually working
