My brother introduced me to your sailing adventure(s) and I’ll admit, I am rather addicted! Love your filming, straightforward narration, humor; your choice of music is divine. Love that you’re living your dream. Fair Winds, Barry. Steady On, Ladies ... 😂
I've watched every episode & I've tried to hold back but damn.... you're in the ocean!! FISH for food. It's not hard & you even got a little tackle box. It's amazing food!!! Come on mate!
Hey Barry, I have been following your videos for over a year. They are always entertaining. As a sailor near Vancouver, Canada I have learned many things about passage making by watching you. Keep up the great work. Be safe. Your legions of fans are following you. Best regards.
Barry....nothing but respect for you sir, and anyone else who has made this journey. Your last anti-prophetic words.....days where things don't happen.....got a good chuckle out of that!
Great stuff as always Barry. Chopper was almost certainly a spotter from a tuna seiner of which there are many in that neck of the ogin. Most of the big tuna boats carry them - a Robinson on floats - very limited range so the mother ship would have been relatively close. Fair winds
Old sea dog here. US Navy boatswain mate. your single handed sail was so much fun to experience I have been having dreams of going to sea as a civilian for years If I get lucky with some investment I am going to do it. you are a great inspiration and a jolly good sailor. Stay well and may you have a fair sea and following wind. keith
Nearer the Equator the more Doldrums , can drive you mad . Chopper from fishing boats , they use them to spot the large schools of fish . Being alone for so long is amazing to me .
Around 12:36 mark you mentioned you were the stand on vessel because you were sailing. But the fishing vessel is the stand on in that situation according to Rule 18, you are only the stand on against a power driven vessel and sea plane since sailing is its own category and does not fall under the restricted in ability to maneuver (due to the nature of her work). However, you were correct about being the stand on vessel because of Rule 13, overtaking, not for being a sailboat. Also, you had a responsibility to sound 5 short blasts under Rule 34 since you were within sight of one another and you had doubt as to the other vessel’s intentions. 5 short usually wakes people up and puts them on alert to maneuver. Definitely the fishing vessel should have given you more consideration, at least answered your calls and arranged for passing intentions, but in collisions at sea the blame is never 100% on one vessel because of Rule 2. I agree with you on fishing vessels, they can be the worst especially in narrow channels, their tolerance of risk and distance between other vessels is beyond anyone else’s. I’m being petty with the rules because I’m in the maritime trade and collisions happen often enough that all incidents are worth looking at. Good on you for keeping a watchful eye and maneuvering to safety, I’ve seen a handful of boats in the Atlantic meet a different fate since they could not make a decision fast enough or turned to port during a head-on.
Great video Barry, love the images, edition, music... you´re not the typical weekly posting sailor, you´re great beeing out there into the big blue. Keep posting!
Barry. ...you are a superb story teller and a wonderful sailor. ....hope the god of winds be fair to you....thnx for sharing your wonderful experiences
I had a similar experience off the Mexican coast a few months ago. I could see this freighter directly bearing down on the same course as me, from behind, with the AIS flashing that a collision was imminent. Trouble was i couldn't take avoiding action until it was clear which side he would pass. I don't think he ever saw me but i just had time to do a 90 degree turn, once it was clear that he would pass me on my port side. He came within half a mile, in the middle of the night. Truly scary.
17:07 That Robinson helicopter had an HP- prefix in its registration, which makes it Panamanian. There's no way it would have come from land, with its short range. Most likely came off a yacht or fishing boat. Your passengers have been adorable!
Barry... amazing trip so far! You must have posted these from Galapagos! I have to say... you remind me so much of my mate Daniel Ash. Another great British musician.
Dunno, but you remind me of the late Robin Williams. Love your humour and the way you just deal with whatever comes your way. Great! As I just discovered your channel, I'm looking forward to seeing more of you. Keep on sailing, mate! Greetings from Germany.
I want to thank you so much and I've looked at probably 10 of your videos in the last 24 hours I really love stealing now oh my God but two we keep to we around cuz to eat really will watch out for you God bless you man

My old boat was becalmed about that location for 17 days without a breeze. Then the wind arrived and the Galapagos were beautiful.
Absolutely enjoyed this very much! Thanks for taking us along. Your channel has a different quality to it than others and it's refreshing! Good stuff!
Take care and thank you for showing us your courage to cross the Pacific ocean alone on a 36 feet mono-hull. Cheers and sail safe.
Barry you're a freakin hero of the v. d. stadt captains! Fair winds from v. d. stadt building country nl...
I really enjoy your adventures and commentary.
That chopper was probably off the fishing boat trying to see who could have cut their multi-kilometre long nets LOL
Really enjoyed your video especially your conversation with your visitors

He was off South America so it may well have been the DEA looking to see if a Colombian cocaine submarine was following along in his wake haha

I've watched every episode & I've tried to hold back but damn.... you're in the ocean!! FISH for food. It's not hard & you even got a little tackle box. It's amazing food!!! Come on mate!
Not everyone likes fish! Besides, who needs fish when you have Pot Noodles!?
I've watched you from the beginning and you are my favorite show.
Same here.
1:28 what works very well for tell-tails is the tape from an old tape-recorder casset if you can still get some.
Barry you are so brave to do it by yourself. Keep it up OLD SEADOG, happy to become a patreon of yours
Cheers Dennis.
We used to use pieces of old cassette tape for telltales. Worked pretty good!

Barry....nothing but respect for you sir, and anyone else who has made this journey. Your last anti-prophetic words.....days where things don't happen.....got a good chuckle out of that!
You sure know your music, even during time of no wind and absolutely nothing going on you know how to fill the dead time with excellent music.
when ever I get that becalmed I swear I can hear barnacles growing on my boat. 😂

If you see the seabirds wash themselves, it means the wind is coming up. Grate vid.

If only it can be possible, I would have this man as a second father!
Why are you not using the main sail? I only saw it raised once in this video and there it set dead center of the boat just pushing the boat sideways.
I guess you have the only heliport in the pacific!! Birds and a helicopter! What's next a squadron of Amazon prime drones?? Thanks Barry:)
happy to find this channel. hail birdlord, ill be watchin

That Japanese fishing boat coming head on towards you - so much scarer than that huge tanker following you through the Panama Canal!
