  • This week I launched my first photo textures collection, for use with any of your favorite art and design editing apps. A good friend was the first person to purchase and then she immediately asked me how to use them. So I made this tutorial of just a few ways you can use textures in your work. I used Affinity Photo for this tutorial, but the basic premise would be the same in Photoshop as well.

Love textures. Just did some storyboards and they started out super clean and decided to drop some overlaid dotscreens. Subtle but gave it just enough extra visual interest. Ive been using textures and overlays since mid 90’s. Lol. While i don’t always use them i do add something when i can. I spent a lot of time early in my career using grungy texture and overlays. I’ve scanned and photographed a lot of textures over the years as well as bought textures so i have a decent library to pull something from.

Me too. I have tons of textures, either purchased or created myself. I had to archive a bunch because they were no longer big enough for the size of the work I’m making now.

Hey Dave, I am at work...
You make me feel like to run home and open those Affinity programs.
Hahaha, I never felt this with adobe or canvas from deneba.
Finally a program to put those to rest, like I mention before, quark (my 800.00 investment) finally is gone, besides, quark was so boring. Last week I found this program Affinity Publisher was GREAT, Thank you Dave.
Saving all your vids, great help.
I hope other find this is a robust program with a great price.
    Thank you.

Mate I love your stuff. Now here is the thing. I need to build a realistic studio where I can cut models in wedding dresses out and put them into and it looks like a "real studio". The reason is I have a bunch of shots taken in terrible rooms with crappy backgrounds. Need textures that simulate a nice studio environment suitable for fine wedding style.

Thanks. You may want to also check out Olivio Sarikas. He does a lot more photo rendering videos than I do, and could probably help with that specific topic.
