Crazy how it was one of the last albums that I really gave a chance and is now in my top 2 I think with Still Life. All of their albums are fantastic though.
This album is indeed a concept album. The story, as set out by writer and vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt goes: " The character dies, becoming a ghost upon earth. His funeral being described in the prologue. He comes to spiritual life in April and the rest of the album covers the struggle for recognition of his foggy state. He gets to see the days of the ones left behind. He tries to affect people in any way possible. The woman is not necessarily betraying him physically, but her grief is not enough for his ego. He expected her to suffer his demise for ages. When this is not the case, frustration creeps in making him an invisible stalker, and eventually a spiritual mare thrown unto the faces of the ones left on earth." One cool little thing is that the final lyric/word of each track is the title of the next one. 'When' finishes with "When is the new beginning, and the end of this sad Madrigal?" Madrigal is a cool little acoustic song that's sinister as fuck. Given that you've loved every single Opeth track you've listened to, I admire your patience and restraint in not just diving into the full catalogue! They truly haven't done a bad song in like a dozen albums. You have a lot to get through ;)
@@charlesmiller3278 Mikeal Akerfeldt would have been better off doing what Isahn from Emperor did. They should have ended opeth and he should have started another band... In reality that IS what happened he just never changed the name.
Modern sign of a great concept album: Every song from the album (reaction/live/original music video) has at least one comment explaining the genius intricacies of the album for anyone that will hopefully get to experience Opeth the same way we all did. I hate that MAYH is fading into their back catalogue, but I love that people decades later are still discovering and spreading the joy. 🤘🥰
I want this song played at the end of my funeral! The version I remixed with the slowed down outro tempo like whenever I saw it live! They did it so slow each snare hit was 20 seconds apart! I wish I recorded that on my phone but I was mesmerised...lol
Dj played this sing at my wedding and only my wife and I knew it...it was as metal as i could get but i was able to sneak out no love by exodus once everyone got hammered!
I travelled to Bulgaria from Manchester to see Opeth play with an orchestra , in an amphitheater. It was a full on weekend , lots of travel in a short space of time .I was on the front row with the speakers right in front of me trying my best to keep awake. Worth every penny. Amazing.
Glad to see you guys are back. I've really enjoyed all your Opeth reactions, and this song is one of my favorites from my favorite Opeth album. My suggestions: - April Ethereal (from this album, My Arms, Your Hearse) - By The Pain I See in Others (from Deliverance) - A Fair Judgement (from Deliverance) For a more mellow/melancholy side of Opeth: - Windowpane (from Damnation) - Hope Leaves (from Damnation) For newer prog stuff: - Eternal Rains will Come (from Pale Communion) - Moon Above, Sun Below (from Pale Communion) - Heart In Hand (from In Cauda Venenum)
I heard multiple songs for the first time on the Roundhouse Tapes. Hearing them live first really made me prefer the live version. Roundhouse Tapes changed my life.
So many perfect songs from Opeth. You really can't go wrong with any. We all have favorites, but I for one, constantly keep moving from one album to another. Suggestions, By The Pain I See in Others, and Advent.
April ethereal, nectar, windowpane, beneath the mire, face of Melinda, godheads lament, by the pain i see in others, burden, dude..... You have so fucking great songs to do still.... Mikael is the Best songwriter ever, they haven't any song that isn't a Masterpiece.... Greetings from chile 🤘🤘
Good to see you guys back. You're really the only channel that I can say, "They like shit I like" 100% Amen corner or Demon of the Fall. Really, anything.
OPETH did it again! they are so great in all aspects... i recommend you guys "Godhead`s lament", next. another masterpiece. or else: "By the pain i see in others".
MAYH is the greatest Opeth album imo. So much emotion, heavy, dynamic, raw and not overly produced, but still professional. I can both party to it and fall asleep to it.
Can't beat starting the year with Opeth! Was just thinking about you guys today and when we'd see another Opeth reaction, and you give us 'When!' Great reaction! Next track: 'Burden'
By the pain I see in others, wreath, the funeral portrait, karma... there is so many good songs to write for you to listen but PLEASE DO OPETH MORE OFTEN!!!
😂 soo funny, I'm watching from oldest to newest, I'd just commented after "Demon of the Fall" about the concept album aspect of Opeth, and Yall said it very next video, that was Fun, Yall Are Fun, Love Yall!
Silhouette, Under the Weeping Moon, To bid you Farewell, Moonlapse Vertigo(roundhouse tapes maybe?), Harvest, Wreath OR By the pain I see in Others, Windowpane OR Closure, Beneath the Mire - Atonement(twofer?), Burden, I feel the Dark, Moon Above Sun Below, Sorceress, and maybe just the whole Album - In Cauda Venenum
Your opeth reactions bring me so much joy. Every true opeth enthusiast goes through the same emotional roller coaster you experience live in your videos. Truly amazing.
You two are ‘crushing it’ ….watched all your Opeth reactions multiple times…… if ever (& doubt I ever will) stumble into a bar and see you two….drinks on me :) cheers

Absolute joy vicariously discovering Opeth with you guys. I think there are some Between The Buried And Me tracks that would be right up your alley, like King Redeem Queen Serene.
This was my favourite song for many years, such a great album! And yes, it is a Chapter Book. The last word of each song is the title of the next song.
Good to see you guys. I've been back on the Opeth train the last several weeks and listening to songs I never listened to before, they're still blowing me away. Maybe you should check out one of the later album's songs, like Dignity or Cusp of Eternity. They're not really metal but they still have a cool sound and sick guitar. Then again you haven't listened to a really soft one, I think. You guys should probably do a poll, there's still a lot of options.
I love your Opeth reactions and the appreciation to their drumwork. In this song the drummer was Martin Lopez and he is a beast and have his own style, very relaxed but brutal. Now he plays drums and writes songs to SOEN. If you like to search new music, try song called Antagonist or Martys...
Yes and it's recognizable.. And I have to say that just in a few years I have realized how much his drumwork means to that Opethsound I love. I'm taking anything of Martin Axenrot he's amazing too. But for me Lopez's style is perfect.
Hi Guys .. Thank you so much for reacting to Opeth again. I so love your reaction to my favourite band...you make me smile so much. This track ..When.. is from the third album My Arms Your Hearse. Opeth for life!!!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Their finest album in my opinion…perfect balance.
Agreed, love them all but this one has the magic
Glad to see you guys are back. I've really enjoyed all your Opeth reactions, and this song is one of my favorites from my favorite Opeth album.
My suggestions:
- April Ethereal (from this album, My Arms, Your Hearse)
- By The Pain I See in Others (from Deliverance)
- A Fair Judgement (from Deliverance)
For a more mellow/melancholy side of Opeth:
- Windowpane (from Damnation)
- Hope Leaves (from Damnation)
For newer prog stuff:
- Eternal Rains will Come (from Pale Communion)
- Moon Above, Sun Below (from Pale Communion)
- Heart In Hand (from In Cauda Venenum)
I want them to react to anything from Damnation.
