You might think this song is great on a first listen, but you wait till you've heard it 300 times and still hear new little surprises that you'd never noticed before :D
This reaction transported me to the time I listened to Ghost Reveries for the first time in my life. Ghost of Perdition, in my opinion, is one, if not the best, prog metal song of the decade. It's flawless. The composition is complex, layered, dynamic and the flow of it is absolutely immaculate. It is emotional, it has a pathos that only Opeth can conjure and the lyrics are one of the darkest Opeth has ever written.
Yes absolutely. I had only heard a couple of other songs when this came out and I still remember the shock I got when I put it on. This is track No1 mind you, it really gets you off guard
Javier, it’s been years since you commented but I wanted to share my first time listening to this back in 2005. A few pints of German beer in a foreign town, in my dark room, eyes shut, headphones on and having my mind blown away. I can remember everything about my first listen of this album. I feel the same way!
That's Mikael Åkerfeldt, the vocalist, one of their two guitarists, primary songwriter/lyricist and one of the if not the best Growls/clean vocals in metal. All songs will leave you awestruck but imo for y'all next on the list should be Deliverance Bleak Reverie/Harlequin Forest Baying of the Hounds Serenity Painted Death Heir Apparent For only clean vocals/their softer side Burden Windowpane
To put it simply, this is the best reaction video I've ever seen in my life, I was dancing along to every riff and singing while I watched. This is the first song in Ghost Reveries (2005), you should do the one right after it next: The Baying of the Hounds. Same vibe! Loved this!

Opeth has been a HUGE influence on my band's style of playing! Especially my style of playing drums or bass guitar when I am playing those instruments. Mikael's vocal timbre in both clean and growling is the BEST in all of metal! His guitar playing is second to none...lol

What only great music can do right? Give you that natural high and allow you to get lost for at least that moment - so glad you were able to have that experience 😊🤘
It's so cool to see you both listening to the music the way it should be listened to. WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED. I used to blast this album in my convertible and it was hard to keep my eyes on the road. Great reaction!!!!!!
I am so jealous. I wish I could hear my first Opeth song ever again, or my second even ;) Thanks to you guys for rekindling the flame. Tracks like these are like epic dark fairytales, a journey indeed. They are the master of transition.
I still remember the moment I first heard this song. Days after the record came out, I got it and was listening to it on a car trip at night. Free highways, speakers turned up. It changed my world back then and I still can't believe how great this song is after all this time. One of my fave metal tracks ever!
Guys, I got chills and almost cried listening to your video and seing your reaction. I discovered this band many years ago. My kids were young and grew up with that band. One day my 16 yo boy invited me to an Opeth show in Quebec city, Canada!!! Was one of the most memorable night of my life. They played Blackwater Park and Ghost of Perdition and since than, it's very emotional for me when I hear those songs. Thanks for that great moment and keep on the good job!!!
You guys are just amazing. Love watching your reactions over and over again. Hope you react to Deliverence next from Opeth. Think you'll both enjoy it.
Harlequin Forest live at the Royal Albert Hall is a great video because you also get an insight into the bands personality(also as a side note Hours of Wealth and Deliverance are amazing too!)
Mikael Akerfeldt is one of the best creative minds and performing talents of this generation. It's amazing what he comes up with in the studio and how well he translates it to the stage. The rest of the band is also incredible, but the lead singer and guitarist definitely steals the show here.
This is my first listen too an entire Opeth song and I'm kinda speechless, holy shit...thats is some tool song writing Dreamtheater Mashup epic shit....Instant fan, but hey that doesn't mean i have forgotten to keep busting your asses about Gojira-Pray live at red rocks extended version🤘
As a guy who started listening to them 20 years ago, your reaction was fun to watch (and thanks for letting the song play). This song was off of Ghost Reveries, which I consider their last "original Opeth" sounding album. They changed after this...still great but much different. There is still TONS for you guys to here from Ghost Reveries on back back. This song is great....and it only MIGHT make my top 10 Opeth list.
I love seeing you guys experience this for the first time. Watching you guys absolutely blow your minds is like watching a kids first time at Disneyland.
Great Reaction! All those changes taking you off-guard and making you laugh that's so adorable and I totally know the feeling. :) Ghost of Perdition is the best Opeth song in my book and overall one of the best songs ever made. The contrast between brutal and beautiful, the flow, the transitions and the tension and release is just off the charts. When that album came out I hadn't listened to Opeth in a while and word was out the album was a return to form, so I didn't check anything out beforehand I just bought it, put it on headphones and it blew me away right from the start with this ominous chord progression that starts out so silently and then - boom! - Death Metal right in your face. And, because it's Opeth, it's not your typical Death Metal. It's in Waltz time, which I love. The whole album just slays. And there was a long discussion back in the day on the official Opeth message board (before it got closed) if it's a concept album or not. Because Mikael Akerfeldt said it started as a concept but at some point he scrapped the concept because he had a song that didn't fit and wanted it on the album nevertheless. So, I regard it as a "broken concept" :) I think there is still enough of the concept left so that you can connect the dots yourself and the added song (which is the last one) can still be viewed as a kind of epilogue to the concept or some alternate timeline or mirror universe or whatever you might call it. It's open to interpretation :)
You're god damn right. This is the greatest metal song ever created. This band grows and grows and grows with every album. They are musical perfection.
Deliverance would logically be next. Completes the big 3 alongside BWP and Ghost of Perdition. Brutal riffs and amazing clean vocals. Anything from the Still Life album would be great too. I’d recommend Serenity Painted Death.
I loved to see you guys enjoying this song so much. It'd be nice that Opeth fans didn't recommend the same damn songs everytime. If you guys react to songs like White Cluster, The Lepper Affinity, The Amen Corner, Nectar, Beneath the Mire and so on, you wouldn't regret!!!

What only great music can do right? Give you that natural high and allow you to get lost for at least that moment - so glad you were able to have that experience 😊🤘
Opeth - The Grand Conjuration 🤘

Lmao I can actually hear that.
Cool to see you guys going in on this band. Opeth have huge talent.
I'm gonna watch your Opeth reactions a thousand time ! You're the best Opeth Reactors I ever seen 👌🤘
It's so cool to see you both listening to the music the way it should be listened to. WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED. I used to blast this album in my convertible and it was hard to keep my eyes on the road. Great reaction!!!!!!
I keep coming back to Opeth. Their diversity is incredible.
They got fucking flutes!!?? Haha! Love this reaction guys. Opeth is absolutely amazing. Their newer material is different but also excellent.
Yesss More Opeth
4:25 transported to another world by the sonic mastery of Opeth lol. Love when people find out it's one guy singing, it's always utter amazement.
Deliverance!!!
Fuck yes man. They ARE the greatest band ever. Check out Harlequin Forest, Serenity painted death or the Moor
Thank you 😊 looking forward in going down the rabbit hole with Opeth 🤘
Right? This song is just 🤯... oh and hey- We hear ya on GOJIRA, it’s right around the corner 😁
@@enitaly 🤘🙏
wunderfull song thx so much !!!
Mikael is the most vicious vocalist ever full knacker he is a master of the "growl /scream" even today nobody compares to him peace.
The transitions in this song are incredible, it all flows so smoothly. Between parts that sound very different from one another.
Dude you should definitely react to " The face of Melinda" by OPETH
Masterpiece
So glad you posted this today - I watched your Blackwater Park reaction a few hours ago!
You're god damn right. This is the greatest metal song ever created. This band grows and grows and grows with every album. They are musical perfection.
Now do Coil+Heir Apparent altogether off of the Watershed Album. For the vocals (both clean and dirty), you will not be dissapointed
I knew I wasn't the only one who counted that is one track haha
Agreed
Should always be listened together, great suggestion!
It may be too much for a reaction video, but linking "The Lotus Eater", and Burden, is a great combo too!
You two are awsome!!! I love watching you two react. By far the best so far.
absolutely love your reactions to the music and with each other..you 2 are awesome!!
~Opeth~Life changing...Great reaction, many blessing~
Deliverance would logically be next. Completes the big 3 alongside BWP and Ghost of Perdition. Brutal riffs and amazing clean vocals. Anything from the Still Life album would be great too. I’d recommend Serenity Painted Death.
It's like the 1000th time I listen to this song and still get shivers.. best prog metal track ever recorded for me.. period
Hands down best reaction I ever saw to this song!🤘
Love ur reaction man. Opeth is always epic! 🤘 I would recommend Heir Apparent or Lotus Eater. They're heaviest songs! 🤘🤘
I just discovered this song. It's probably in my top 5 of all time right now.
I loved to see you guys enjoying this song so much. It'd be nice that Opeth fans didn't recommend the same damn songs everytime. If you guys react to songs like White Cluster, The Lepper Affinity, The Amen Corner, Nectar, Beneath the Mire and so on, you wouldn't regret!!!
subscribed. thats my fav band and one of my fav songs. loved the excitement
so fking good song
I second this
