@@TheoFennelim already 120hz without the adapter so thats false. The adapter allows for 120hz AND 1440p on console. And of course the monitor has to be capable of supporting those specs.

I’m on a Samsung 60hz monitor but upgrading to a 240hz Acer monitor n I was worried about how I would get 240hz on console. I’ve been searching for videos about it and this is the only video that explains exactly on how to get the 240hz…. Your a life saver man you’ve gained a new subscriber 💯
just an fyi you won't get 240 hz on a console. It will say 240 on your monitor but will actually only be at 120 because that's all the ps5 and xbox series s/x can do.

DocValentino, thanks for the video. I would like to add that what you're looking for is an "HDMI to DisplayPort" adapter. Cords and adapters are not always bi-directional, so don't pick 'DisplayPort to HDMI'. Next watch for old DisplayPort 1.2 adapters as they will give you issues. Instead look for 1.4 or better yet 2.0. The G9 only needs a DP 1.4 but 2.0 is backwards compatible. Last, I've contacted both Microsoft and Samsung to confirm and they were both useless. TH-cam and Reddit, FTW.
I can't get it to produce 120 fps in games that have it available. Only gives me the availability for the 165 hz the monitor is capable of. Nothing on the console
i picked up the adapter after having no luck with the adapter i bought from best buy. after a bit of fiddling i was able to get my dell u2711 to accept a display port signal from the xbox one x. thanks for the great tip!
It didn't work right away. I kept getting an error from the monitor saying the supported resolution was not supported and to change it 2560 x 1440 @ 60 Hz. After poking around in the xbox settings I turned of 50hz and 24hz and it worked!
You just earn another subscriber. I recently got the g9 just like you and have had this problem with my ps5. Hopefully this device helps. Definitely need to invest in a PC so I can push this bad boy to its true potential. Great videos, keep up the content!
Thank you! I appreciate it! With PS5, it works for some games. For instance, CoD Cold War wouldn’t let me select 120Hz (even though it’s supported), but Fortnite did… and I verified in the video output settings that it was outputting 120Hz after changing the setting in Fortnite.
This video gave some hope in a chaotic situation where I had no idea why my screen is only outputting 60hz (even tho the manual says it can recieve 1440p144hz via hdmi). I've ordered the adapter and I hope it will work. Cheers!
@@DSM-XLNCturned out Fortnite didn't output 120fps (even tho it should) but Overwatch did, so HDMI alone works for me. I think a powered HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 adapter should work tho

I have an Asus VG248QE and it only maxes out with display port/dvi and not hdmi, just 60 hz for hdmi. then i found your video. Did it work for you? Im a little confused so once you have the adapter, the cord you need is a display port to hdmi? Or a regular display port? For example, you plug one side of the display port into the adapter device, and then the other side of the cord (hdmi) plugs into the monitor hdmi port? Or, the other side (double end display port), plugs into the monitors display port? Im confused dude save me please

It’s not easy like the Xbox because it doesn’t have a display port on the console like the Xbox does (ps5) supposedly, what i need is a hdmi 2.1 to DisplayPort 1.2.. which I can’t find anywhere online so I guess Gg. 60 fps 1080p it is

The Club 3D CAC-1335 HDMI 2.1 to DisplayPort 1.4 It's a bit pricey at $50-60 but it's the only one that I know of that works for this particular issue. I had to buy one for my Series X after getting a new monitor that didn't support HDMI 2.1. I spent hours upon hours scouring the Internet and even Walmart, Staples and a PC store. That is the only one that I found and it actually works for 1440p 120hz
For anyone wondering I think this will only work if you have either a PC to switch the refresh rate or if the monitor OS will allow you to do it. You can see in the video his OS allows him to change the the refresh rate directly on his monitor. If you can’t do one of those two things your series X/S and or PS5 won’t auto switch. You have to manually change it to 120+
It’ll only auto switch the hertz on new gen consoles if you have a 2.1 hdmi to 1.4 and up display adapter due to the 2.0 HDMI not being compatible to display anything above 60hz on the ps5 and series X/S--- note you need to figure out which display port version your monitor needs in order to refresh the rate of games higher than 60hz if your monitor isn’t compatible with the 2.1 HDMI
THANK YOU. Ive tried three different adapters at this point, after being told by the folks at BestBuy and Staples that these would work for sure no problem even though they say displayport to hdmi and not hdmi to display port.
Yeah.. the cables are pretty much all directional.. only from DisplayPort to HDMI, and not the other way. A good handful of people have reported black screen issues with the device. Amazon makes returns/refunds easy though, so it’s kind of risk free to see if it works for your setup. Thank you!
The adapter in the video is HDMI to DisplayPort. Cables with DisplayPort on one end and HDMI on the other are directional from DisplayPort to HDMI… two separate things, and both are true.

The adapter works well. But the most it outputs is 1440p 60hz. I can get 1080 @120hz but no 1440p 120. Same adapter you suggested and the CRG9 Samsung 49”. Any suggestions?
Unfortunately not. These adapters aren’t the highest of quality, and the conversion cables are directional from DisplayPort to HDMI. If I had the money, I would make a high quality cable going from HDMI to DisplayPort… but I’m just an average dude that tries to make TH-cam videos 😂

Thank you for watching and for the question. I apologize for a delayed response. The answer to this is somewhat not straight forward, because it will vary per game.. The PS5 will need to be on performance mode.. then the game needs to support 120 Hz. This is because there is no setting on the PS5 to manually set the output to 120 Hz, and the setting is going to be in-game for those that support it. I tested this with 2 games.. CoD Black Ops: Cold War and Fortnite. The in-game settings for CoD would not allow me to select 120 Hz at all, so no go for that one. Fortnite, however, did allow me to select 120 Hz, and while Fortnite is running, if you go to Settings>Screen and Video>Video Output>Video Output Information, it shows the Resolution as 1920 x 1080 - 120 Hz. So to make that long story short, the answer is yes, but it depends on the game.
Ok, so I don't need this cause I have the same monitor it has a 2.1 hdmi port and I have the hdmi cable for it, I was hoping this will make any game at 120hz. Glad to bump to this video didn't waste my money.

The Xbox Series X and S have no DisplayPort, but you can use an adapter to connect the consoles to a monitor that only supports DisplayPort. To transmit high-resolution video and audio signals from your Xbox to a DisplayPort monitor you'll have to buy an HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort 1.2 active adapter.
If you're asking why HDMI 2.0 and not HDMI 2.1 which the Xbox Series X and S support, it is because there is no HDMI 2.1 to DisplayPort active adapter currently available on the market.
Hey guys.. it claims to be able to do 1440p at 120Hz, but I wouldn’t count on it. Some people have reported getting a black screen with the device when switching to higher refresh rates.

makes sense... as I've understood it, the conversion from hdmi to dp is more "advanced" and requires "more advanced" processing than [the other way around] which ofc takes some time (= some kind of lag). and their respective HDR signals are not at all the same...

I got this adapter and since I bought it, it converts the signal as it's supposed to, but sometimes the screen goes black and then goes back on again, as if you unplugged it and plugged it back in. It works fine 1080 144hz but I get this random black screen moments. It's interesting this only happens when I'm gaming, it doesn't happen when I'm browsing, coding, watching videos, etc... Does it happen to someone else? May it be because I received a faulty one? Or something about the games that I should change...?
I’ve been seeing some other people giving similar feedback. I personally tested functionality before making the video, but haven’t really had time to really put it to hard work. It is possible that it’s hitting its limitations under heavy display loads.
I watch allot of tv with my phone as input through usb-c to to HDMI and one adapter works flawless and the other shows a black screen now and then. These things can get pretty hot. Came to mind, hope it helps.
I have seen others comment that they get a black screen after some play time. Some even get it right away. Unfortunately, I can test things before making a video, but I don’t have the time to really grind on it since I have a full-time career outside of making these videos. Maybe one day 🤷🏻♂️.

I have actually never physically touched it while gaming. I'll have to remember to see. I have an infrared temp sensor I can even get a reading with.. maybe I'll try gaming for an hour or so, and check it when I get a chance. Thank you for bringing it up.
@@Sora5024 I had a chance to run my PS5 on it for a little bit, but I wasn’t gaming, just going through menus and idle. I didn’t even measure the temp, because the warmth from it wasn’t enough to be of concern. I still haven’t been able to game on it at 120Hz for an extended timeframe to get a good heavy load gauge on it. I will try to get that done this week. I have just been busy with starting a new job and everything, but it’s on my list 😊
Hey, I just bought this yesterday hoping my problems were fixed. Not really. I plugged it into my series S and my DP to my monitor connected with the adapter, but yet nothing seems to work. I’ve tried switching my overrides to everything. All my screen does is go black. Usually it’s because you need a hdmi 2.1 but the adapter already has a built in one. I really need help I’m so confused.
I have a ps5 this did work for me! But it won’t say 120hz in settings. My screen will go black turning into the higher frames and it’ll range from the first few minutes i plays 120-140fps. For my settings I have HDCP off Prioritize performance in BOTH GAME SETTINGS AND CONSOLE SETTINGS. and 120Hz on Automatic.
No problem. Please be aware that people have reported this device not working properly for them. I tested it when I made the video, but didn’t use it extensively. Amazon has a great return policy if it doesn’t work for you.

I just switch to a fibre optic hdmi cable and you can use all that adaptive sync and stuff if you use a hdmi 2.1 cable bro I'm currently using an aoc 155hz adaptive sync monitor

It is long enough to reach. The USB part of the adapter is plenty long enough to plug into the front of any console while plugging the HDMI part into the back. I just verified it.
I purchased a display adapter and followed the instructions in your video. I now have 120hz at 1080P. My only question is regarding sound. I was using a sound extractor with the hdmi cables to use with my surround sound speakers. Now that I have a display adapter connected to my Xbox and a display cable going directly to the display port on my monitor, am I limited to just getting sound from my monitors speakers?
Hey man I purchased the adapter on the link for my 32inch 240hz sceptre monitor to connect to my ps5 but it is not working. I also have the screen and video setting resolution on automatic and 120Hz output set to Automatic. But it is not working. 🤦🏽♂️ I am still capped at 1080p and 60Hz🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️. For my series s I only have the hdmi. I need to buy the display port and the adapter. So I just connect the adapter to the Xbox then the DisplayPort to the adapter then the other end of the DisplayPort to the monitor ?
Bought the DisplayPort that you recommended to use on my ps5, *am trying to connect my zowie monitor to the ps5 via DP, but when I did connect it all the colors on my ps5 looked washed out.. don’t know why

I didn’t buy MW2, so I can’t say for sure, but I had issues with it trying to run Cold War at 120Hz on PS5 back when I made the video. You may end up with a black screen like many users have reported.
It's 1440 P at 120 FPS looking at your Amazon link it says 1900 by 1200 at 120fps? Wondering if the console will actually render at that or go to 1080 P. I have the Samsung Odyssey G7, with the HDMI 2.0 4k aftermarket cable, I'm able to get 1440P @120hz on my Xbox Series X without this adapter. Make sure you update the firmware on your monitor too.

I also forgot to mention the host connection is my Acer Nitro 5, in which im sure all by now know it has a hdmi input.

It's a bit pricey at $50-60 but it's the only one that I know of that works for this particular issue. I had to buy one for my Series X after getting a new monitor that didn't support HDMI 2.1. I spent hours upon hours scouring the Internet and even Walmart, Staples and a PC store. That is the only one that I found and it actually works for 1440p 120hz
After I put my hdmi into the dvi port my monitor just goes black?

For anyone wondering I think this will only work if you have either a PC to switch the refresh rate or if the monitor OS will allow you to do it. You can see in the video his OS allows him to change the the refresh rate directly on his monitor. If you can’t do one of those two things your series X/S and or PS5 won’t auto switch. You have to manually change it to 120+

It’ll only auto switch the hertz on new gen consoles if you have a 2.1 hdmi to 1.4 and up display adapter due to the 2.0 HDMI not being compatible to display anything above 60hz on the ps5 and series X/S--- note you need to figure out which display port version your monitor needs in order to refresh the rate of games higher than 60hz if your monitor isn’t compatible with the 2.1 HDMI

Yeah.. the cables are pretty much all directional.. only from DisplayPort to HDMI, and not the other way. A good handful of people have reported black screen issues with the device. Amazon makes returns/refunds easy though, so it’s kind of risk free to see if it works for your setup. Thank you!

The adapter in the video is HDMI to DisplayPort. Cables with DisplayPort on one end and HDMI on the other are directional from DisplayPort to HDMI… two separate things, and both are true.

Yes.. you do also need a DisplayPort cable. Most monitors come with one.

Cause it doesn't work for me, I think what the company does is sell the returned non functioning items that have been returned seeing as when I received mine the box looked like it was already opened
The adapter works well. But the most it outputs is 1440p 60hz.

Unfortunately not. These adapters aren’t the highest of quality, and the conversion cables are directional from DisplayPort to HDMI. If I had the money, I would make a high quality cable going from HDMI to DisplayPort… but I’m just an average dude that tries to make TH-cam videos 😂

Thank you for watching and for the question. I apologize for a delayed response. The answer to this is somewhat not straight forward, because it will vary per game.. The PS5 will need to be on performance mode.. then the game needs to support 120 Hz. This is because there is no setting on the PS5 to manually set the output to 120 Hz, and the setting is going to be in-game for those that support it. I tested this with 2 games.. CoD Black Ops: Cold War and Fortnite. The in-game settings for CoD would not allow me to select 120 Hz at all, so no go for that one. Fortnite, however, did allow me to select 120 Hz, and while Fortnite is running, if you go to Settings>Screen and Video>Video Output>Video Output Information, it shows the Resolution as 1920 x 1080 - 120 Hz. So to make that long story short, the answer is yes, but it depends on the game.
So the adapter did not allow you to play any Call of Duty game in 120fps?

The Xbox Series X and S have no
DisplayPort, but you can use an adapter to connect the consoles to a monitor that only

Hey guys.. it claims to be able to do 1440p at 120Hz, but I wouldn’t count on it. Some people have reported getting a black screen with the device when switching to higher refresh rates.

This is what I’ll say… it seems to work even at 4K. Downfall is that there is somewhat of a lag Input and you don’t get hdr

makes sense... as I've understood it, the conversion from hdmi to dp is more "advanced" and requires "more advanced" processing than [the other way around] which ofc takes some time (= some kind of lag).
and their respective HDR signals are not at all the same...

I got this adapter and since I bought it, it converts the signal as it's supposed to, but sometimes the screen goes black and then goes back on again, as if you unplugged it and plugged it back in. It works fine 1080 144hz but I get this random black screen moments. It's interesting this only happens when I'm gaming, it doesn't happen when I'm browsing, coding, watching videos, etc... Does it happen to someone else? May it be because I received a faulty one? Or something about the games that I should change...?
I’ve been seeing some other people giving similar feedback. I personally tested functionality before making the video, but haven’t really had time to really put it to hard work. It is possible that it’s hitting its limitations under heavy display loads.
I watch allot of tv with my phone as input through usb-c to to HDMI and one adapter works flawless and the other shows a black screen now and then. These things can get pretty hot. Came to mind, hope it helps.
I have seen others comment that they get a black screen after some play time. Some even get it right away. Unfortunately, I can test things before making a video, but I don’t have the time to really grind on it since I have a full-time career outside of making these videos. Maybe one day 🤷🏻♂️.

Hello, thank you so much for your help! I have the odyssey ultra wide monitor. I got it at Costco I want to connect my Xbox and my apple MacBook Eyre. I’m just trying to figure out which one I should use the HDMI input for and watch what I should use the display port for? Thank you so much for your help! Right now I have been switching back-and-forth my HDMI cable every time lol I really need to have both connected. I found a TH-cam video a while back that had a great cable recommendation and I should’ve got it back then and I never did. I’ve been looking for hours on TH-cam for that video and I can’t seem to find it in my history, unfortunately lol thank you for your help!

I have actually never physically touched it while gaming. I'll have to remember to see. I have an infrared temp sensor I can even get a reading with.. maybe I'll try gaming for an hour or so, and check it when I get a chance. Thank you for bringing it up.

@@Sora5024 I had a chance to run my PS5 on it for a little bit, but I wasn’t gaming, just going through menus and idle. I didn’t even measure the temp, because the warmth from it wasn’t enough to be of concern. I still haven’t been able to game on it at 120Hz for an extended timeframe to get a good heavy load gauge on it. I will try to get that done this week. I have just been busy with starting a new job and everything, but it’s on my list 😊
Hey, I just bought this yesterday hoping my problems were fixed. Not really. I plugged it into my series S and my DP to my monitor connected with the adapter, but yet nothing seems to work. I’ve tried switching my overrides to everything. All my screen does is go black. Usually it’s because you need a hdmi 2.1 but the adapter already has a built in one. I really need help I’m so confused.

I have a ps5 this did work for me! But it won’t say 120hz in settings. My screen will go black turning into the higher frames and it’ll range from the first few minutes i plays 120-140fps. For my settings I have HDCP off Prioritize performance in BOTH GAME SETTINGS AND CONSOLE SETTINGS. and 120Hz on Automatic.

It is long enough to reach. The USB part of the adapter is plenty long enough to plug into the front of any console while plugging the HDMI part into the back. I just verified it.

I purchased a display adapter and followed the instructions in your video. I now have 120hz at 1080P. My only question is regarding sound. I was using a sound extractor with the hdmi cables to use with my surround sound speakers. Now that I have a display adapter connected to my Xbox and a display cable going directly to the display port on my monitor, am I limited to just getting sound from my monitors speakers?

Bought the DisplayPort that you recommended to use on my ps5, *am trying to connect my zowie monitor to the ps5 via DP, but when I did connect it all the colors on my ps5 looked washed out.. don’t know why

I connect the normal hdmi cable (the one with ps5) to my msi 2k 165hz gaming monitor and in ps5 settings i use performance mode- i get 120fps on my monitor.(it's only supported in few games) I guess this is after the update.

I didn’t buy MW2, so I can’t say for sure, but I had issues with it trying to run Cold War at 120Hz on PS5 back when I made the video. You may end up with a black screen like many users have reported.

I have the Samsung Odyssey G7, with the HDMI 2.0 4k aftermarket cable, I'm able to get 1440P @120hz on my Xbox Series X without this adapter. Make sure you update the firmware on your monitor too.
