Hi Mattias, this is some sort of weird letter but bear with me a bit here. I worked on little photography stuff for a few years back but dropped it because of life. Then I discovered your channel, you made me realize that photography can be something so personal and not only to please clients or other people I don't care about. I'm starting new with blank pages and forgot all the knowledge I have and having a blast taking pictures of my city. Feels like I can truly express what I want, in the way I want it. I'm using cheap 8 years old fuji just because I like how it feels in my hand and that's it. No idea what the picture or megapixels. It's a long shot as I'm easily got bored but I hope one day I have enough portfolio and confidence to message you some work I'm proud of. Two months ago, with you and Damien as further insight, I purchased the Sigma SDQH. It’s a niche type of camera that I love. I did the research, I accepted the caveats as the positives heavily outweighed the negatives. Portraits, Landscapes with 21:9, and infrared capabilities, I’m so in love. The colors are vibrant and bold. Coupling M42 with Focus Peaking is so much fun. Thanks for your time in making helpful and informative content. :)
Another excellent video - thank you. I concur with each of your points. Both in my early retail photo career (1970s-80s), then as a school teacher (30+ years, retired), I bought used and used what I bought to its potential. Even now, our main DSLRs are vintage Pentax K20D and K-m with a bevy of lenses (zoom and prime), also bought used and thoroughly enjoyed. I like a 'Yankee' New England sentiment, "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without." When one of our two Pentaxes wears out, I'll move up to a K-70 or KP, but until then I'm happy to dream. I bought a Canon M50 a few years back when it came out. It is a wonderful camera considering the size, with very good features and image quality. I already use vintage lenses on it so AF and such is absolutely useless to me. I always havr been bothered by the lack of control on the M50 and the impression of having a toy in my hands. I settled a few weeks back on a used Fuji X-T1 and I have never been happier, the camera feels awesome, the images are great and man the controls and the EVF do everything. And the M50 isn't wasted, I still have a B camera with a stabilized telephoto for when I do landscapes shots without a tripod
Lol, comes 1 day after I just bought a brand new camera (for a change). The A7RIII was on sale for $2k (800 off) and actually the price a used one has been going for (have been monitoring for months). I have been making do with the A7R2 for years now -but needed better autofocus since I now do some wildlife photography. (my big tip is to buy gear when you need it to solve a creative problem). I originally bought the original A7 for 900 - sold it for 650 after taking 30K photos. I would have sold the A7R2, but it' screen is broken and has a few other quirks from a hard life - it's worth more as a backup / second body than what I could get for selling it.

Because I've owned cameras for 54 years I'm able to say that some cameras are just plain fun, and the fun factor has little correlation with price - but a tight correlation with how many photos you take and how happy you'll be with them. The Fuji X-E2 was fun! But so was the Nikon F4 which had a strange way of going invisible - I could shoot in a tight group of people and the big F4 wouldn't be intrusive at all. Some modern cameras are too complex - you spend too much time on the camera. The camera should disappear, like great running shoes. Cheers, Mattias, I always enjoy your thoughts.

Great advice Mattias! For me at least, gear and photography are almost two separate hobbies. I have a raging case of GAS and I love trying different cameras! But my favourite photographs have been consistently from a handful of cameras that I know well and have with me a lot of the time.
best advice video ever on photography. All stuff I've learned the hard way. "Don't obsess over specs"; I shoot a D800 for wildlife. I have some killer shots of eagles at conowingo dam, but you would think only the A9, R5, and D850 could do that if you obsess over specs. For me, the price difference will not give me enough practical difference to upgrade.... Also, I shoot large format film for landscapes. It helps me focus, think, and interact with my surroundings in a way I've not been able to with my D800. So I might add to this list, "shoot what helps you be the best version of you". Large format film in inconvenient, expensive, and not for most people. But it puts my head in a different space, and that's worth it for me.

I would add a camera you like: aesthetically is one thing, and also ergonomically the overall feeling. I actually think I am more draw to the overall feel, including aesthetics, than to specs.
Coming from a golf background the advice is much the same: practice, practice, practice. New golf clubs doesn't make you a better golfer, likewise new gear doesn't make you a better photographer! Great video as always, Mattias.
Some sensible advice there. I do exactly as you say keep going over spec sheets. I want to go mirrorless and then wondering whether XT3 or XT4 or just go full frame. Madness I tell you......
I love this video! My first gear was a canon 400D. I played with it and loved it, and the owner said to just keep it. Free! Now, I just bought a XPro1 and I am in love with it! Used and Older cameras still pack a punch

Great video as always. Ended up stumbling across your 5D video, got one and the 24-105 F4, 17-40F4 and the 200 2.8 After your Video on that lens as well. 12months ago switch to a G9, 12-60, 50-200, 100-400, now with the uncertainty of M43 I'm looking at alternatives again, I really miss some aspects of the 5D setup I had previously, yep those colours, don't miss the weight though. Also watch your D750 Video a number of times. Old DSLR lens's are now relatively so cheap. While a Z6 / RP or even an S1 body can be had relatively cheap these days it's the lenses that cost. X-T1 has great colours, better than X-T2 I think, just don't like the ergonomics, but certainly a great deal bang for buck. Decisions decisions...but won't be buying new again....realistically the amount of improvement you think new kit might bring...is only connivence and takes away from the art of getting decent pics.
Totally agree. I check the secondhand offerings on a daily basis, and with a lot of the offerings: you see that the camera was bought, hardly used, and then offered for sale again. Because the people found out that the hobby was not for them. This doesn't only happen with cheap cameras and lenses but sometimes with expensive gear as well. I really feel for those people. What most people need is some personal attention from experts who know camera gear. IMO, when you buy your first camera, your best bet is going to a good old fashion photography shop. A place where they still care for their customers; where experts work who love photography and who know everything about camera gear. And then you can either buy secondhand at that shop for some extra security, or you can try to find the recommended camera and lens yourself secondhand. You can get a lot of different cameras and lens combinations for relatively little money. Personally, knowing what I know now, I would recommend first-time buyers to spend between $150-400 depending on their needs. For instance, a camera like the original Olympus E-M10 can be had for around $100. Can't really go wrong with a purchase like that. But of course, there are other examples and it depends on the use case.
Already a head of you Mattias, Got myself a used RX100 II on Tradera (like ebay) here in Sweden a few weeks ago. Six years old, shutter count 2300, in superb condition, a perfect second camera, and also a nice match to my A7II.
Nothing has changed in two years. I have more cameras that take perfectly good photos than I need but instead I bought a 75 - 300 m43 lens to take bird photos whilst I hike. Small, compact, and it has enough reach for me. I shoot mostly jpegs so mpixel count doesn’t really matter. So there you go! Please keep making videos. I really enjoy them.
Yet again, speaking the cold hard truth. Some people will hate this message as it conflicts with many current youtubers doing exactly as you described, talking about irrelevant specs.
I go along with that for 100%! After 5 years shooting with a Olympus EM-10 I finally bought a Nikon Z6 with 2 used (old) fixed lenses and still use the EM-10 from time to time.. And there are still coming awsome images out of it ;)

Really real talk. Even though I'm experienced and know what I want to shoot, and what I need to do it, I still sometimes get obsessed with exciting gear and have wild thoughts that I need to talk myself down from.
”You can't buy experience." That pretty much sums it up. I work as a photographer part-time and still use my original Canon 7D (circa 2009) for all paid gigs. Not necessarily because I want to, but because that's the only camera I can still justify owning when all things considered. No one ever complained because I'm using a crop sensor camera or the fact that my camera is almost a decade old. But because I have used this camera exclusively and extensively, I know exactly what features I want should I decide to upgrade. Eye-AF for one, since I shoot a lot of portraits of late. Anyway, thanks for the upload. I might add Japanese subtitles to this video so that I can share it with my photography students. I hope that's okay!
Personally been in difficult loop of buying new cameras, lenses, as well “good to have” stuff till one day I realized how big impact does “less is more” so i sold all my gear to purchase Leica Q and never looked back. It became my best companion in documentary my private life. I really struggled in past to find my personal preference in focal length and that became bit frustrating, overwhelming. If i would go same path again i would buy cheap camera with few cheap prime lenses different focal length and shoot as much is possible. Later would eventually find out what really i need/like. 5 cents: buy cheap, learn, learn, then go and support your local camera store 😇

Man the budget-stretching was a nail on the head, I was just trying to get an xt2 but I bought an X pro 3 for 1300 used because I saw the price and thought, "this will definitely make me into a better photographer".

I have a Richo GR ii and canon Eos 2000d. I like them both ☺️ I snap away , I continue to learn . My images aren't fantastic, but the more I snap the more I learn . I'm learning about exposure triangle , I'm getting a better feeling and understanding of it now , the interplay between the settings. I've still tons to learn and hopefully that will come with experience ☺️
I recently purchased a used Pentax K3-11from KEH camera it works perfectly. I had one problem the battery would not hold a charge and I contacted them and they sent me a new battery. I traded my son my K50 for his K100D I like the pictures the old CCD sensor cameras take over the CMOS sensors take.

Refreshing for me in the south pacific with this hot weather, especially for my mind. I buy a Nikon d700 after watching your review on it, and also the CM1, and the Xe1 with Minolta 1.7 a kind of in between. And even it's old, this is what I need for my level and most important, i love using those camera. Thanks for this video and all of them
Getting into the hobby, you certainly under-estimate the price of glass, well fast glass old or new is a considerable budget. And weight and size of the overall system.
Wanted a sony rx10 bridge camera back in 2014 for photographing my newborn, bought a A7 with Sony 35mm 2.8 instead. Now almost seven years later and multiple lens and bodies later I have a A7Riii and A7C with several Sony GM zooms and probably 10 different prime lenses.... However I also have 100k+ photos of family, vacations and friends that is priceless 😁
This video is 100% true and I have made most of these mistakes! Although I have had fun trying this and that, I have found as I have gained more experience the lens/camera I had months ago was just fine. If I started all over again I would do exactly was you stated in this video.

Most of the absolute best digital pictures I've taken were shot with cameras many people would consider to be low-end, to put it politely. Such as a Kodak V1003, for example. Yeah; it's not the equipment, it's knowing how to use it.
Well that is all good advice, thoughtful, informed, meaningful. Good work, you do a nice job with the channel. The only challenge you will have is if the dog dies, since it is kind of a star for you channel making cameo appearances and all. So, I suggest you take a page from Hollywood for the way they handled a TV show called Lassie. It was about a dog and a kid and various stories, but the dog was a very big part of it, it knew everything and was super smart. So, what did Hollywood do with their important dog? Well it seems Hollywood had several dogs all pretending to be the same dog. One dog was for jumping, another for running, another for this and another for that. The perfect dog they showed on TV was several dogs. Critical to the several dogs being portrayed as one dog was of course the illusion, so they tested photos of each dog to see if people could tell one dog used in the show from the next, the show was filmed in black and white which helped. Nobody could tell or even knew there were several dogs used in the TV show. So, several dogs is what you need, but they need to look very similar and you need to shoot the dogs only in black and white, so expunge the color images while you can. If you do a good enough job, your dog will win an Emmy (and American award in the television industry). I know your dog will have a good chance to win because just recently a dog known as King Cuomo, who masquerades as the governor of NY state won such an award. Clearly dogs can achieve high places of honor. There you have it, now you can secure your future! Once you achieve the plan and awards you can go on tour as a celebrity, get a book deal, like King Cuomo, there are no limits. ;)
All true I have been shooting the same old minolta 35mm x-700 since the 80s I just now up graded to minolta a9 AF minolta 35mm camera. Will it make me a better photographer probably not. will it do more yes with auto focus and a bunch more automatic programs. As far as photos gos my old camera will do the same. But it's a new to me high tech toy (for its day) for me to enjoy.
The Canon SL2 was my first camera, and now after four years, I feel a need to upgrade, and mostly for a camera that has silent shooting. There are projects I want to embark on, but would be difficult to do without this feature. I plan on upgrading to the Fujifilm X-E4 with the Fuji 50mm (favorite focal length on APS-C), but I'm concerned the pictures will be too sharp. I'm currently using the Canon nifty fifty, and its sharpness is more than enough for me.
I'm mentoring someone and he is borrowing my Canon 5d classic and the nifty 50. He said he wants to get a new camera. I asked why, you have only had mine a few weeks? He said someone told him it was old technology and obsolete. I tried to explain to him why this really doesn't matter at this stage in his development. Frustrated....that camera is very capable.
I tried it once and i liked it.. The monitor is useless, few AF point.. i used it like a film camera and saw the photo at home on the pc: beautiful and very workable files
Make a video about how you find inspiration to shoot everyday... I have been feeling very much burnt out and am stuck. It feels like I have lost my photographic vision to the point that it I don't feel joy picking up my camera, only dread...
Make it easy so it doesn’t feel like work. Go to the same location, close to home, again and again. You will be surprised how many different images one single subject can give. I have two spots in the neighborhood and of course my dog that together have given me hundreds of images.
I wish my dog would pose like yours. What do you use to make sure he/she pose so well in lots of your pic samples? Or just luck and take plenty of shots?
A liitle comment: in my country, getting photography second-hand gear is always a big risk. People usually offers its own used cameras and lenses with ads including pictures marked as 'almost in mint condition' or 'has minimum wear, works OK'... But, when you have that equipment in your hand; then becomes a totally different story. That's why I prefer to pay extra and buy brand-new equipment.
just out of curiosity, which camere is at 5:20? anyway you are right on every single point...At the end of the day after making my eyes with big cameras, I decided to turn on a Ricoh Gr III since I can use it really every single day...while with a bigger camera I could just fill my ego, but not my portfolio....in the mean while I can "save" good money for more experiences and in a future buy something that I really want...maybe....
I have taken your direct judgement once and wasn't happy. But I have since only taking your directions and was much happier. Got my first stills camera used in the store and it was extremely affordable. They basically sold the RX100 IV for the price of a RX100 III with 2k shutters. But the EVF and later the LCD stopped working. I repaired it only a tiny bit, but it's my webcam now. My 2nd stills camera was an upgrade,and I needed that as I can't replace the lens and I wanted and ILC. I bought it new for 800 which was almost twice the price of the GX80 which had lower specs, was older and 2mm smaller. The GX9 was only available with a kit lens I have never used past a test shoot. The GX9 (or the GX85) were the correct size and had features I need: floppy screen(a little limited) EVF and built in screen. Together with the 14mm it is just compact enough to work for me. I can't upgrade any lenses (maybe the 20mm or 17mm first party options), as the compact size for me is the most important factor. Sadly 2020 hasn't been the greatest for my shooting.
My honest advice to everyone is, set your goals properly, only that way you will be fully satisfied after time, e.g. if you are really certain, you need some particular feature, go for that feature.
Basic truth, not sugar coated by sponsorships. I get the itch for another camera body about 4 times a year. About the same frequency as that new pickup enters my view. However I just ignore my inner desires and just keep using what I already have, which is more than enough camera wise. I have cameras that I haven't used in 4 years!!! And the cameras I do use, I am forgetting quickly all the hundreds of features and settings that I memorized once upon a time for reasons I do not remember. The best camera I have ever owned is not a camera but a Samsung Note 9 smartphone. I have shot more photos on that than everything else I own with in general better results. Just no telephoto. Even my shiny new Apple iPhone 12 Max Pro isn't as good ( bought the phone for the watch, which is fantastic!!). Your built up muscle memory, both physical and mental, for taking outstanding photographs is worth more than all the current generation of cameras put together.

Hahaha...I started with a Sony a6100...then Fuji X-T30....then X-T3....and now a Fuji X-Pro3. At this pace I'll have a Leica M10 in no time lol.

I would add: buy a camera you find aesthetically pleasing. That means you will bring it out more often with you and end up taking more photos.
I would add a camera you like: aesthetically is one thing, and also ergonomically the overall feeling. I actually think I am more draw to the overall feel, including aesthetics, than to specs.
Coming from a golf background the advice is much the same: practice, practice, practice. New golf clubs doesn't make you a better golfer, likewise new gear doesn't make you a better photographer! Great video as always, Mattias.
Some sensible advice there. I do exactly as you say keep going over spec sheets. I want to go mirrorless and then wondering whether XT3 or XT4 or just go full frame. Madness I tell you......
I love this video! My first gear was a canon 400D. I played with it and loved it, and the owner said to just keep it. Free! Now, I just bought a XPro1 and I am in love with it! Used and Older cameras still pack a punch

Great video as always. Ended up stumbling across your 5D video, got one and the 24-105 F4, 17-40F4 and the 200 2.8 After your Video on that lens as well. 12months ago switch to a G9, 12-60, 50-200, 100-400, now with the uncertainty of M43 I'm looking at alternatives again, I really miss some aspects of the 5D setup I had previously, yep those colours, don't miss the weight though. Also watch your D750 Video a number of times. Old DSLR lens's are now relatively so cheap. While a Z6 / RP or even an S1 body can be had relatively cheap these days it's the lenses that cost. X-T1 has great colours, better than X-T2 I think, just don't like the ergonomics, but certainly a great deal bang for buck. Decisions decisions...but won't be buying new again....realistically the amount of improvement you think new kit might bring...is only connivence and takes away from the art of getting decent pics.
Totally agree. I check the secondhand offerings on a daily basis, and with a lot of the offerings: you see that the camera was bought, hardly used, and then offered for sale again. Because the people found out that the hobby was not for them. This doesn't only happen with cheap cameras and lenses but sometimes with expensive gear as well. I really feel for those people.
What most people need is some personal attention from experts who know camera gear. IMO, when you buy your first camera, your best bet is going to a good old fashion photography shop. A place where they still care for their customers; where experts work who love photography and who know everything about camera gear. And then you can either buy secondhand at that shop for some extra security, or you can try to find the recommended camera and lens yourself secondhand.
You can get a lot of different cameras and lens combinations for relatively little money. Personally, knowing what I know now, I would recommend first-time buyers to spend between $150-400 depending on their needs. For instance, a camera like the original Olympus E-M10 can be had for around $100. Can't really go wrong with a purchase like that. But of course, there are other examples and it depends on the use case.

Six years old, shutter count 2300, in superb condition, a perfect second camera, and also a nice match to my A7II.

Nothing has changed in two years. I have more cameras that take perfectly good photos than I need but instead I bought a 75 - 300 m43 lens to take bird photos whilst I hike. Small, compact, and it has enough reach for me. I shoot mostly jpegs so mpixel count doesn’t really matter. So there you go! Please keep making videos. I really enjoy them.

After 5 years shooting with a Olympus EM-10 I finally bought a Nikon Z6 with 2 used (old) fixed lenses and still use the EM-10 from time to time..
And there are still coming awsome images out of it ;)

”You can't buy experience." That pretty much sums it up. I work as a photographer part-time and still use my original Canon 7D (circa 2009) for all paid gigs. Not necessarily because I want to, but because that's the only camera I can still justify owning when all things considered.
No one ever complained because I'm using a crop sensor camera or the fact that my camera is almost a decade old.
But because I have used this camera exclusively and extensively, I know exactly what features I want should I decide to upgrade. Eye-AF for one, since I shoot a lot of portraits of late.
Anyway, thanks for the upload. I might add Japanese subtitles to this video so that I can share it with my photography students. I hope that's okay!
Personally been in difficult loop of buying new cameras, lenses, as well “good to have” stuff till one day I realized how big impact does “less is more” so i sold all my gear to purchase Leica Q and never looked back. It became my best companion in documentary my private life.
I really struggled in past to find my personal preference in focal length and that became bit frustrating, overwhelming.
If i would go same path again i would buy cheap camera with few cheap prime lenses different focal length and shoot as much is possible. Later would eventually find out what really i need/like.
5 cents: buy cheap, learn, learn, then go and support your local camera store 😇

Man the budget-stretching was a nail on the head, I was just trying to get an xt2 but I bought an X pro 3 for 1300 used because I saw the price and thought, "this will definitely make me into a better photographer".

I have a Richo GR ii and canon Eos 2000d. I like them both ☺️ I snap away , I continue to learn . My images aren't fantastic, but the more I snap the more I learn . I'm learning about exposure triangle , I'm getting a better feeling and understanding of it now , the interplay between the settings. I've still tons to learn and hopefully that will come with experience ☺️

I recently purchased a used Pentax K3-11from KEH camera it works perfectly. I had one problem the battery would not hold a charge and I contacted them and they sent me a new battery. I traded my son my K50 for his K100D I like the pictures the old CCD sensor cameras take over the CMOS sensors take.

Refreshing for me in the south pacific with this hot weather, especially for my mind. I buy a Nikon d700 after watching your review on it, and also the CM1, and the Xe1 with Minolta 1.7 a kind of in between. And even it's old, this is what I need for my level and most important, i love using those camera. Thanks for this video and all of them
Getting into the hobby, you certainly under-estimate the price of glass, well fast glass old or new is a considerable budget. And weight and size of the overall system.

Wanted a sony rx10 bridge camera back in 2014 for photographing my newborn, bought a A7 with Sony 35mm 2.8 instead. Now almost seven years later and multiple lens and bodies later I have a A7Riii and A7C with several Sony GM zooms and probably 10 different prime lenses.... However I also have 100k+ photos of family, vacations and friends that is priceless 😁

This video is 100% true and I have made most of these mistakes! Although I have had fun trying this and that, I have found as I have gained more experience the lens/camera I had months ago was just fine. If I started all over again I would do exactly was you stated in this video.
I am a "geardo" and do tend to buy and sell gear more than I need to I agree; stick with what works and focus on learning shooting your camera(s).
Thats the reason Why I bought the fuji xt-20 with 28mm pancake lens. You can always put it in your pocket and can take it with you.
Budget stretching is the worst it got me, I had a Nikon d3200 now I have a canon 1dx iii you just keep jumping.

Most of the absolute best digital pictures I've taken were shot with cameras many people would consider to be low-end, to put it politely. Such as a Kodak V1003, for example. Yeah; it's not the equipment, it's knowing how to use it.
Well that is all good advice, thoughtful, informed, meaningful. Good work, you do a nice job with the channel. The only challenge you will have is if the dog dies, since it is kind of a star for you channel making cameo appearances and all. So, I suggest you take a page from Hollywood for the way they handled a TV show called Lassie. It was about a dog and a kid and various stories, but the dog was a very big part of it, it knew everything and was super smart. So, what did Hollywood do with their important dog? Well it seems Hollywood had several dogs all pretending to be the same dog. One dog was for jumping, another for running, another for this and another for that. The perfect dog they showed on TV was several dogs. Critical to the several dogs being portrayed as one dog was of course the illusion, so they tested photos of each dog to see if people could tell one dog used in the show from the next, the show was filmed in black and white which helped. Nobody could tell or even knew there were several dogs used in the TV show. So, several dogs is what you need, but they need to look very similar and you need to shoot the dogs only in black and white, so expunge the color images while you can. If you do a good enough job, your dog will win an Emmy (and American award in the television industry). I know your dog will have a good chance to win because just recently a dog known as King Cuomo, who masquerades as the governor of NY state won such an award. Clearly dogs can achieve high places of honor. There you have it, now you can secure your future! Once you achieve the plan and awards you can go on tour as a celebrity, get a book deal, like King Cuomo, there are no limits. ;)

All true I have been shooting the same old minolta 35mm x-700 since the 80s I just now up graded to minolta a9 AF minolta 35mm camera.
Will it make me a better photographer probably not. will it do more yes with auto focus and a bunch more automatic programs.
As far as photos gos my old camera will do the same.
But it's a new to me high tech toy (for its day) for me to enjoy.
The Canon SL2 was my first camera, and now after four years, I feel a need to upgrade, and mostly for a camera that has silent shooting. There are projects I want to embark on, but would be difficult to do without this feature.
I plan on upgrading to the Fujifilm X-E4 with the Fuji 50mm (favorite focal length on APS-C), but I'm concerned the pictures will be too sharp. I'm currently using the Canon nifty fifty, and its sharpness is more than enough for me.
I regret nothing, especially new cameras

I'm mentoring someone and he is borrowing my Canon 5d classic and the nifty 50. He said he wants to get a new camera. I asked why, you have only had mine a few weeks? He said someone told him it was old technology and obsolete. I tried to explain to him why this really doesn't matter at this stage in his development. Frustrated....that camera is very capable.
That Camera is absolutely fantastic!
I tried it once and i liked it.. The monitor is useless, few AF point.. i used it like a film camera and saw the photo at home on the pc: beautiful and very workable files

I have been feeling very much burnt out and am stuck. It feels like I have lost my photographic vision to the point that it I don't feel joy picking up my camera, only dread...
Make it easy so it doesn’t feel like work. Go to the same location, close to home, again and again. You will be surprised how many different images one single subject can give. I have two spots in the neighborhood and of course my dog that together have given me hundreds of images.

A liitle comment: in my country, getting photography second-hand gear is always a big risk.
People usually offers its own used cameras and lenses with ads including pictures marked as 'almost in mint condition' or 'has minimum wear, works OK'...
But, when you have that equipment in your hand; then becomes a totally different story.
That's why I prefer to pay extra and buy brand-new equipment.

just out of curiosity, which camere is at 5:20? anyway you are right on every single point...At the end of the day after making my eyes with big cameras, I decided to turn on a Ricoh Gr III since I can use it really every single day...while with a bigger camera I could just fill my ego, but not my portfolio....in the mean while I can "save" good money for more experiences and in a future buy something that I really want...maybe....

I have taken your direct judgement once and wasn't happy. But I have since only taking your directions and was much happier. Got my first stills camera used in the store and it was extremely affordable. They basically sold the RX100 IV for the price of a RX100 III with 2k shutters. But the EVF and later the LCD stopped working. I repaired it only a tiny bit, but it's my webcam now.
My 2nd stills camera was an upgrade,and I needed that as I can't replace the lens and I wanted and ILC. I bought it new for 800 which was almost twice the price of the GX80 which had lower specs, was older and 2mm smaller. The GX9 was only available with a kit lens I have never used past a test shoot. The GX9 (or the GX85) were the correct size and had features I need: floppy screen(a little limited) EVF and built in screen. Together with the 14mm it is just compact enough to work for me. I can't upgrade any lenses (maybe the 20mm or 17mm first party options), as the compact size for me is the most important factor. Sadly 2020 hasn't been the greatest for my shooting.
My honest advice to everyone is, set your goals properly, only that way you will be fully satisfied after time, e.g. if you are really certain, you need some particular feature, go for that feature.

Basic truth, not sugar coated by sponsorships. I get the itch for another camera body about 4 times a year. About the same frequency as that new pickup enters my view. However I just ignore my inner desires and just keep using what I already have, which is more than enough camera wise. I have cameras that I haven't used in 4 years!!! And the cameras I do use, I am forgetting quickly all the hundreds of features and settings that I memorized once upon a time for reasons I do not remember. The best camera I have ever owned is not a camera but a Samsung Note 9 smartphone. I have shot more photos on that than everything else I own with in general better results. Just no telephoto. Even my shiny new Apple iPhone 12 Max Pro isn't as good ( bought the phone for the watch, which is fantastic!!). Your built up muscle memory, both physical and mental, for taking outstanding photographs is worth more than all the current generation of cameras put together.
