I don't own a Fujifilm anymore but I still watch you, the Hasselblad is recognition for all the work you've put into the videos you've made over the years. People will talk and no matter what you say otherwise someone will always be negative. Enjoy your Hasselblad and I'll continue watching no matter which camera you have in your hand. I've kept watching for you and the really good information you provide, not because of the camera in your hand, cheers!
I trust you. Fair play for getting a Hasselblad and putting a very clear disclaimer front and centre. During your previous 200+ videos, you have established your integrity and getting a free camera does not compromise this in my opinion. Enjoy and always interested to hear your no-nonsense opinions on your new piece of kit
100% respect your professionalism and honesty, particularly with the manufacturer. Reaching out to them first when you have a critique is pure professionalism. Great review.
It's very unusual to give away such high end gear, most companies just loan equipment for a review. The only exception is usually cheap accessories or very budget lenses.
I think reaching out to the company first before making a negative comment in your video is very reasonable. Love the video and have no problem at all with you using a camera given to you by a company. In fact, I'm happy for you! You're very honest and transparent about it all and you've built up a level of trust with your community over the years. I LOVED seeing your mum knitting!
First of all, I really loved your shots. Especially how you used the metal railing and pane of glass to compose. But I gotta be honest, this is probably the first time I've gotten jealous of a sponsorship, ever. The X2D and 55mm lens is my absolute dream setup. As it stands, the only way for me to afford that any time soon would be selling all my other gear I've worked hard to acquire and that, I just can't do. I'd sell half of it, but that sadly isn't enough. It is so cool to see that Hasselblad does this and gave you the camera. I hope you use it more in the future and share more of your thoughts on it as time goes on.
I think the very clear and transparent nature of the disclaimer makes it pretty clear the video will be fair. Good on you for getting an awesome bit of kit though and some gorgeous shots from it.
First time viewer. Props for the transparency and for saying it is sponsored because you got a free camera. Folks think that because they don't get paid, but get a free item, it isn't sponsored. You earned a sub from me in this world of folks trying to hide their relationships with vendors. Great video!
Congrats on the camera! I really enjoyed the photos as well. Looking forward to more videos about it and more photos. For me and my shooting style, this is a perfect camera. Maybe one day I will be able to get one.
Really appreciate your honesty and humility, not everyone would tell it like it is. Definitely seems like a “nice to have if you can afford it” camera.
I haven’t read through all the comments, so maybe someone else has had the same idea. However, I loved the xpan crop shots that you took. Whilst it seems ridiculous to use such an amazing tool to crop to xpan, it gives you the required resolution to scale the panoramic images. I’d love to see you use it more to experiment with the digital xpan format in your genre. I could see you adding a whole new dimension to your body of work. Keep up the great work!
Firstly congratulations on getting a high enough profile that you now have a high end manufacturer sending you cameras and wanting you to try them etc. I don't think anyone who has followed you for a while would doubt your integrity because Hassleblad sent you product but there is always someone. Secondly thanks for a review that feels properly real world, not going to buy the camera because if it (way too expensive) but food for for when I win the lottery 😂
Love the video, also congratulations btw! I find it so hilarious how you said no cliche fotos of railways and trains and right after the next two shots were just that! 😂 Shots turn out fire tho so no complaints
100% faith in your sincerity and ethics Roman 👍 wow those photos are amazing and the cinematic look is just incredible. As you say not the best type of camera for street photography but if you have one or indeed can afford one then why not. As for Japan, wow wow wow ❤
Traditionally Hasselblad have always made cameras aimed at studio or tripod landscape use, and this camera gives the impression they haven't quite got the hang of making a camera with the ergonomics for prolonged hand held use. I don't know whether you've used any of the GFX cameras but they seem better in that respect, although I've only had a quick play with them in the Fujifilm showroom in Covent Garden. The white balance seems a bit off in some of the photos, particularly the rainy or overcast ones.
Ive been handholding it the whole trip and it's honestly fine for me. but I can see why some people will not like it in that regard. The colour shift was on purpose
Great video Roman. I like the fact that you were totally upfront out of the gate about your arrangements with Hasselblad. Used medium format camera most of my career but never liked Hasselblad. Finally I honestly think you’re the best street photographer on You Tube. Keep up the great work.
Fantastic photos thus far (I haven't finished the video yet)! About your segment about trusting or not your review... I'm pretty positive most people won't ever even consider getting a hasselblad due to how unaffordable they are... So I don't even care if I trust you or not on what you're saying... I'll just enjoy the blogging and most importantly the photography
I am also shooting with an x t5 and love the system. I then bought an old gfx 50s and was amazed about the picture quality. But then I compared it to my x t5 and the differences were minor, so I thought it must be a psychological thing that I adore the medium format quality. But each time I shoot the gfx I’m absolutely stunned again. So there is something, richer colours, better microcontrast, I don’t know. Anyway i am glad owning both cameras and will keep them. I think its a mood thing wich to use. How is your experience?
Thanks so much for the video. I enjoyed the video and commentary immensely. Smart of Hasselblad to do this type of marketing. Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sony don't have to market this way. People know the brands and can afford the cameras. It's a great way to call attention to their excellent cameras. Just hand them to outstanding photographers. The photographs do the rest. Sorry for the negative comments. They are unwarranted. Thanks for sharing your work.
Brilliant intro and you covered it off well. You have put the hard graft in for years and if a company wants to push its product and give you something for free. Take it. Besides not seen any GfX material from you might prompt Fuji to do the same. Cracking Vid.
I'm not the target market for this camera, as a avid hobbyist, but I appreciate the review of the camera. Truthfully I don't know it would fit in with what I like shoot. Nice that you mention that you might need to upgrade hard drives, computers when dealing with file size from such a camera.
this video once again reminds me how much i would love the ability to shoot in xpan crop natively. Feels like the medium format bug is just hovering on top of my head and about to give me a big bite any time now.
Would you ever consider putting the aperture, ISO and SS next to the images in the video? I so often wanna know because like when you got that tram in focus with the blurred surroundings, I know you're moving the camera with the tram, but I'd love to know the SS as a rough guide for my own attempts at things like that.
Thanks for sharing - congrats on scoring the gear! Hard work pays off. Some nice captures as well on your trip - love JP! Medium format is niche and can see carrying it for commercial use. Not sure it is well utilised getting that pixel count and clarity but cranking the grain up to 15+ in LR edits post to make it look like film though.
That's how you do a disclosure! I tried the 907X/CFV100C a while back, hated the form factor and the lack of IBIS, loved the image quality and the menu system. I may have to give the X2D a try.
Great play thing, you’ve put in the work so well deserved to be gifted something, no shade here. Would be keen to hear how you’ve found working with the files from what is I guess 2.5 x the resolution of your highest megapixel camera? How do the files respond to your style of editing, your presets etc?
Very interested by MF, would love a more in-depth comparison to your Fujis. I've watched a few videos comparing the crop vs MF Fujis and I'll be honest - I don't know if I see the difference without peeping! Would love to hear your opinion.
Mostly I dislike medium format because they don't have 12mm FF vequivalent lenses, even though there is a new 16-27 equivalent (costing 6K though). This hair cut suits you better by the way !
Beautiful photos! I follow other photographers here on TH-cam, they have also got a Hasselblad, some people are getting upset that 1: Hasselblad is giving away cameras. 2: Photographers are taking and using a free high end camera. And when you “apologised” for using the camera given to you/ that people wouldn’t take your review seriously I started to ask myself- isn’t all this upset state of mind from viewers just jealousy? I mean, why is it my business who Hasselblad chooses to give cameras? It’s their property to give away, if they choose to do so! Why is it my business what camera brand you use, it’s your TH-cam channel! Finally- I would like to see a photo interested person refuse to receive a free Hasselblad camera! I wouldn’t say no!!! But I would be in serious trouble affording having one with all those extra things that follow when you buy a new camera system. Hope you have a lot of joy with your new camera! And thanks for always making great educational videos.
Cheers! I think this is a deeper / longer topic but in short I feel that people who complain about this and react negatively are unhappy and this is just a reflection of that. I am yet to meet a successful happy person who gets upset that someone else is doing well. Footballers get free watches. Golfers get free BMWs. This has been happening for as long as marketing was a thing. I don't know maybe I am talking nonsense but I cant emphasise with someone who reacts like that.
Well said! My mouth almost fell open when I saw the comments to the video of another youtuber who received a Hasselblad. It was like they were about to haul him before The Hague, for daring to accept and use a nice camera. Absolutely mind-boggling.
Thank you, Roman, for some great perspectives not only on this amazing camera but photography in general. Congratulations on landing this camera by the way! 👍 And, as always, your street images are getting better and better for each time I watch your channel. Enjoy Japan (with your mom)! ☺️
Man, so many salty comments, Im dissapointed in this community. Im honestly so glad you made this video, especially how you put emphasis on making the best of harsh lighting conditions. My take aways: 1) At the end of the day, even the most premium $10k kit isnt going to fix your boring ass photography. The camera didn't make those awesome abstract compositions, YOU the photographer had to get creative. 2) I love that the tools you used to elevate a boring scene weren't camera accessories. They were hand rails or sunglasses, or waiting for better subjects to enter a scene. 3) Spiders should always be shot with a 100mp hasselblad from at least 10ft away 😂 4) Im as guilty of having GAS as the next photographer, but at some point there are diminishing returns. I've been interested in MF for a while, but ultimately I enjoy tiny vintage cameras. Thank you for showing that this camera isn't for me. All in all, let's support others when we see them getting paid and succeeding at the things we hope to do. Instead of seeing it as "This person is my competition", see it as proof that that success can be achieved. Cheers Rome!
From the other TH-camrs I follow who have gotten one of these, they also have gotten the pathetic angry jealous comments. The pathetic losers living in their mom’s basement are taking it personally that these folks who, this is their job and not a hobby, are actually getting rewarded. I don’t get the hate, but then I have a life aldo
Yeah I feel the same. I know car TH-camrs who got free long term lease deals on brand new M3s. Many other people get various perks as a part of their job or business. This is a deeper topic but I feel the negativity is coming from a place of unhappiness. I’m yet to meet a happy and successful person who posts negativity like this. Sure they might not agree or like something they see, but they just scroll on and ignore.
Congrats to you for having an awesome TH-cam channel that hasselblad would sponsor you with an amazing piece of gear. I think you could do another video that explains the benefits of the medium format sensor size, the depth of field difference and the aspect ratio difference. I wouldn't buy any new camera without a joystick.
I love ya stuff gives me inspiation, Thomas Heaton got a free Hasselbad for free doing a trip to Ireland in his photomobile! Will James Popsys be offered one?😂
About the very appropriate title: I was in Tokyo this summer (travelling) with a GFX100S II, so I totally get it when you say "having a 100MP help" (per spider shot). I tried looking to see if I would run into you (or other Tokyo streetphotographers I followed), but no luck. 😂
Wow: those colors at 2:43 are so nice. 3:42 felt a bit like Todd Hido when he does people. 6:17 is my favorite shot. Nice that you and your mom went, man. And nearly none of us are in the market for that camera, but we all now know it's worth it some day. ;) Man. I need to become a dentist. ;)
Thomas Heaton has been using the special edition of this camera. It's pretty special. What's really crazy is that the are giving people an $8,000.00 camera for free! Looking forward to seeing more from you with this beauty! Have a great day.
Hardly for free... more like 'giving the camera way' as payment for the TH-camrs time and exposure. Similar to how brands used to purchase advertising space, this is the modern TH-cam equivalent.
8000 is actually quite cheap compared to how much people will charge for a regular as placement… I’m not at that level yet but I know people who will easily get 10-20k for a video and IG post. For them this isn’t an 8k camera. I guess cost price is much less so it’s a savvy business move.
Followed your channel for 2 years. Still remember you reviewed Bellroy 10L camera sling 1 year ago. At that time, almost no photography influencer was using it (at least in their video). You had a high opinion on the sling. Nowadays, we see that particular version of sling is everywhere on TH-cam. None of the influencers are paid for using or promoting it. They just like it. In my opinion, that's the proof that Roman is a real person regarding to reviewing product.
In testing the Q3 for the last month I’ve noticed similarities. Slow start up times, huge file sizes, ergonomics not as good. While I do love the photos, there are a lot of compromises. And I trust my X-H2s way more! Enjoy the camera! Cheers.
Does it have a burst mode? Not that I really care but I would be impressed. It's a very sexy, very good and very expensive bit of kit and rather like the supercars I will never drive, I will continue to watch videos about them.
For a free Hassy I would happily create a video detailing it's healing properties, ability to conclusively prove the earth is flat and how it restored my hairline. My only problem with this video is the disrespect you showed that scallop...
Having owned this camera for quite a bit I do have some big gripes with it: -No face detect while tethered -no redundancy file saving while tethered (files only go to computer, not ssd/cf) -Backbuttons are too far from handle to reach comfortably. They should be closer in the empty space between the handle and current location of the back buttons -lens release button should be on the other side -lenses aligment orange dots should be on the outside of the lenses. Not hidden in the metal grooves inside the lens -serious tethering issues, the connection keeps braking up with a macbook pro -needs a joystic to move the focus point -blackout while taking a photo is seriously long -no continous AF yet I still love the camera
Congrats to the Hasselblad!!! When you go on your trips, do you only visit cities, or do you also make trips into nature, but for your channel you just share your street work? And what genre of photography is kind of out of your comfort zone but still something you actually want to try? I think it would make an interesting video.
It’s a total mix. If I have a car then it’s more nature. If public transport then more cities. It really depends. I am drawn more to cities for now but it will change
one thing I found when shooting 100 megapixel MF - a Fuji GFX100 (apart from the shallower DOF) was the much more attractive tonal and colour gradations. I miss that along with the native 4x3 ratio
Hasselblad is giving away their cameras as an advertisement which is understandable and not an easy product to sell to the masses. Good review though clear and upfront comments in a candid fashion. Cheers.
Great video as always. Im only upset that it contributes to the false perception of what a “point and shoot” is and this being a Hasselblad makes that even worse :D
there has been a small change to some editing yes. There are new presets on the way but they are more of an addition to the current pack as fundamentally they are based on the current presets. not sure when they will be ready but deffo this year. I still use my original presets for a lot of editing
Oh well The Hasselblad i bet is a great professional camera. I will never buy this camera because i will never use at full potential of it. Instead what i will do is, find a good Olympus 25mm f1.2 and put it on my PenF and with the remaining money, take some trips and practice and enjoy the process of learning. Just like you advised in the past videos. Great good will gesture from Hasselblad 😊
Looks like a great piece of kit. Way out my price range but if I had the cash I’d be looking at it closely. Wouldn’t it be great if they made a more compact full frame model.
TY for the video. It was nice to see you out of your comfort zone. You could tell that this one might take you a little time to get used to; but that it is still a great camera in good hands. I have several different systems, so I appreciated the walk down a different path. I have learned to trust your POV.
Great images and the trip to Japan is definitely worth! If a company give me a new camera, let me test it and provide some sample images and honest feedback, then they will ask the camera back I will be happy😂😂😂.
You captured some beautiful images with this beast! For a medium format camera this is actually quite compact and I wouldn't have a problem carrying this around for specific urban landscape projects. If I could afford it, this camera would make a perfect companion to my Q2. Thanks for the review!
I'm a bloody slow photographer and I really would like the opportunity just to spend a day with it, but as you said: there's no need to have one for the average joe, including me. The 24 megapixel Fuji is sufficient for my needs. I'm still a bloody slow photographer though ;-)
4:07, I thought it is not weather resistant. I had the camera since new and sold it earlier this year. It's a good camera, great IQ but it is just too slow, big and chunky. I nearly always turn to my Leica M11 due to size as well. It also freezes on me a couple times which is not great, and focus is slow and inaccurate at times (I had the 38mm V lens). Beautiful color though.
I'm very curious about how well this marketing move will work for Hassleblad. It feels like to me, they're trying to recreate the Fuji X100V social media boom by giving out all of these free cameras. I think it's an effective technique for a normally pricedproduct, not sure about a luxury good like this camera though 🤔. Either way, totally would do the same thing as you. Take the camera!
You’d be shocked with how many people have that kinda money to splash. Way way more than you think. I suspect they know what they’re doing as this has definitely created more awareness for their brand
@@snapsbyfox thanks for the reply. I think I find it interesting because I'm in an MBA program. We just did Marketing are currently learning Strategy. I love using the camera industry for in class examples 🤓
I don't own a Fujifilm anymore but I still watch you, the Hasselblad is recognition for all the work you've put into the videos you've made over the years. You're so real for saying that Roman, a massive fan of your work and honesty. Enjoy your trip and keep the good content coming !
Cheers!
I really enjoy it when you leave the background sounds while showing the photos you made. I think it is a great complement to these great pictures
thanks! Yeah I only realised that by accident a while back and stuck with.
Just wanted to also echo this. Really enjoy it as well.
100% respect your professionalism and honesty, particularly with the manufacturer. Reaching out to them first when you have a critique is pure professionalism. Great review.
You deserve it. It’s a fantastic camera, well done 😊
a hassleblad?? did bro just casually got a hasselblad in the mail for FREE?!! props to u man
It's very unusual to give away such high end gear, most companies just loan equipment for a review. The only exception is usually cheap accessories or very budget lenses.
quite a few YTers have been given one I think. Thomas Heaton for one.

Those images in the rain were incredible
Cheers!

One of the advantages of this camera is the wide angle crop, just like you did on some photos. Nice shoots 💯
Some great pictures

Nice to get this cam for just a video
Congrats on the camera! But I'm more impressed by the photos you shot at night, brilliant!

1) At the end of the day, even the most premium $10k kit isnt going to fix your boring ass photography. The camera didn't make those awesome abstract compositions, YOU the photographer had to get creative.
2) I love that the tools you used to elevate a boring scene weren't camera accessories. They were hand rails or sunglasses, or waiting for better subjects to enter a scene.
3) Spiders should always be shot with a 100mp hasselblad from at least 10ft away 😂
4) Im as guilty of having GAS as the next photographer, but at some point there are diminishing returns.
I wouldn't buy any new camera without a joystick.
cheers! yes this is something I plan doing later but I need to use the camera way more first
ok, nice video and nice pictures to
I love ya stuff gives me inspiation, Thomas Heaton got a free Hasselbad for free doing a trip to Ireland in his photomobile!
ahh I still have a few days so there's chance, although I'm on son helping his mum do shopping duty from now on lol
@@BobS-y9k Yeah, understood. I realize that. But, that is one big dollar camera!
8000 is actually quite cheap compared to how much people will charge for a regular as placement… I’m not at that level yet but I know people who will easily get 10-20k for a video and IG post.
For them this isn’t an 8k camera. I guess cost price is much less so it’s a savvy business move.
Hope that Fuji gives you a GFX so you can compare the two!
Maybe one day! But I like the idea of having two different systems so that I'm not stuck in one bubble so to speak.
@@snapsbyfox well in that case, I hope Leica gives you their medium format camera when they release it next year!
Hasselblad domination; now they just need to drop the price down to around 5K for meezle...
Cheers!!
In testing the Q3 for the last month I’ve noticed similarities. Slow start up times, huge file sizes, ergonomics not as good. While I do love the photos, there are a lot of compromises. And I trust my X-H2s way more! Enjoy the camera! Cheers.
I think they will let me borrow the Q3 43, so this is interesting to know. Thanks!
Does it have a burst mode? Not that I really care but I would be impressed. It's a very sexy, very good and very expensive bit of kit and rather like the supercars I will never drive, I will continue to watch videos about them.
Yeah about 3-5 fps I think
I love your honesty, I love your videos and I love Japan. Nothing else to ask for today
Swedish engenieers spending years to get the best image quality possible.
Roman: -30 Clarity +45 Grain
😂
Haha yeah, I ain’t changing my style because of a camera
Even if they say that it’s weather-sealed… I wouldn’t want to test it 😅🙈
Did you say Giant spider? When are you coming to Australia? 🙂
Actually next year… can’t wait… both genuinely to visit and sarcastically to deal with the wildlife
For a free Hassy I would happily create a video detailing it's healing properties, ability to conclusively prove the earth is flat and how it restored my hairline. My only problem with this video is the disrespect you showed that scallop...
Having owned this camera for quite a bit I do have some big gripes with it:
-No face detect while tethered
-no redundancy file saving while tethered (files only go to computer, not ssd/cf)
-Backbuttons are too far from handle to reach comfortably. They should be closer in the empty space between the handle and current location of the back buttons
-lens release button should be on the other side
-lenses aligment orange dots should be on the outside of the lenses. Not hidden in the metal grooves inside the lens
-serious tethering issues, the connection keeps braking up with a macbook pro
-needs a joystic to move the focus point
-blackout while taking a photo is seriously long
-no continous AF
yet I still love the camera
You have an awesome body of work with an unquestionable dedication to the craft. Enjoy that camera bro
Thanks!!
So happy, and jealous, for you!
I really want one😅
Hasselblad is giving away their cameras as an advertisement which is understandable and not an easy product to sell to the masses. Good review though clear and upfront comments in a candid fashion. Cheers.
Great video as always. Im only upset that it contributes to the false perception of what a “point and shoot” is and this being a Hasselblad makes that even worse :D
I feel like the editing of your recent photo changes a little bit, its feel more like film look, would you consider to release a new LR preset?
there has been a small change to some editing yes. There are new presets on the way but they are more of an addition to the current pack as fundamentally they are based on the current presets. not sure when they will be ready but deffo this year. I still use my original presets for a lot of editing
another great video- i always learn a trick or 2 from them...good on you bringing your mum along !
Looking at the cinematic photography gear does matter, a bit ;)
Oh well The Hasselblad i bet is a great professional camera.
I will never buy this camera because i will never use at full potential of it. Instead what i will do is, find a good Olympus 25mm f1.2 and put it on my PenF and with the remaining money, take some trips and practice and enjoy the process of learning. Just like you advised in the past videos.
Great good will gesture from Hasselblad 😊
Fantastically shot video
So now three photographers I follow are all using Hasselblads. What's going on?
A marketing push. Just like Squarespace sponsor many people.
You deserve it mate!!
What lens is that is it a Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster?
nah its the original hassy one - 55 f2.5
Amazing how quick you able to manage getting lovely and artistic compositions on the fly! 😍👋👋👋👍
Enjoyed the video and honest assessment. Keep up the great work!
Damn.
Stellar display of what you can do with this piece of kit
Cheers!
Looks like a great piece of kit. Way out my price range but if I had the cash I’d be looking at it closely. Wouldn’t it be great if they made a more compact full frame model.
Kudos dude an honest report. Not like some that use a Hassleblad on TH-cam
Don't care about the camera (thanks for the disclaimer), but the intro is really good 👌
You captured some beautiful images with this beast!
OMG ROMAN HOW DARE YOU USEEEEE ANOTHER CAMERAAA THAN FUJIFILM XT-5??????????????????????? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH IM DYIIIIIIINGGGG.
UARGH!
Lol. 🤣
I have this camera and it has an absolutely wonderful viewfinder
