  • Here is video of Sarah's successful bail-in skill in Tallahassee SCUBA instructor Gabrielle's open water class. People often wonder why we would make students jump in the water without any gear on then assemble it under water. The bail-in drill encourages problem solving under stressful circumstances in SCUBA. When people are able to stay calm, it helps them better manage any problems in the diving environment. This is a required skill with SCUBA Educators International (SEI), formerly YMCA.

      @diver dave First, she is wearing a dive skin, not a wetsuit. It is only .5mm and has UV 50 protection from the sun. The one she is wearing in this video, she is actually borrowing from me. I always wear one no matter the water temperature. As for air, it would take at least 3 hours to run out of air at the depth she was at. It took her 8.5 minutes. Yes, there were challenges...but she persisted and overcame...and that's what this skill is all about. She continued her training after this skill and went on to successfully complete her checkout dives with no problems whatsoever.

      It's definitely a difficult time with COVID-19, but we are resuming SCUBA diving in a lot of places with many extra precautions in place.

    When did Sarah realize that she had two different fins? Do you require the students to wear a wetsuit or dive skin during the class?

    • @GabrielleGabrielli
      @GabrielleGabrielli  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the strap broke on the one fin during her exercise, and so as not to cause her any additional stress, I tossed her another fin. Students are not required to wear a dive skin or wetsuit, but it helps with warmth plus U/V protection, especially when we are in several hours of direct sunlight.

    It would be easier if the pool had like rings bolted to the bottom for her to tuck her feet into to keep her stable lol

    Is it stressful challenge?

    • @GabrielleGabrielli
      @GabrielleGabrielli  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is quite stressful of a challenge, and students gain confidence when they are able to overcome the challenges and succeed! Some take more than one time to accomplish this.

    Whoa. I never seen a diver wear two flipppers that weren't the same color before.

      She broke a strap on her fin during the exercise, so I tossed her another fin so she could complete the skill.
