Ellen's successful bail-in in Tallahassee SCUBA instructor Gabrielle's class

Here is video of Ellen's successful bail-in skill in Tallahassee SCUBA instructor Gabrielle's open water class. People often wonder why we would make students jump in the water without any gear on then assemble it under water. The bail-in drill encourages problem solving under stressful circumstances in SCUBA. When people are able to stay calm, it helps them better manage any problems in the diving environment. This is a required skill with SCUBA Educators International (SEI), formerly YMCA.

I would love to try it. Maybe next spring. Is there an order to donning the gear? Obviously Mask first. Is the Tank Aluminum?

Hi Chris, the cylinders are aluminum. Students are able to choose the order they prefer to don their gear. Many change their minds while under water, and that is okay. I hope you get to learn SCUBA diving soon...it's amazing!

@@chrisphilhower6029 You are correct that there are no weights in the BC. Open water students need to wear weight belts instead of integrated. The cylinder (tank) is aluminum for students, though my personal cylinders are steel.

Wouldn't this be easier if you had clipped the fins onto the bcd? Or even put them on? Never dove before. Super interesting though.

Great questions, but this task is not supposed to be easy for students because it helps them learn to stay calm and solve problems under water. It's actually a lot of fun once you master the skills!
