I agree. Additionally, I think that the entire soundtrack slaps. In related news, the newest city builders have made the map-building process separate from the game itself. This is in stark contrast to the classic game SimCity 4, which starts you out by letting you build the map before you build your city. Although we cannot say whether or not this is an improvement, sources say that SimCity 4 still has a beloved fan base despite being overtaken by games with better graphics and updated functionality. lol.
Skylines is great, but the customization and the ultimate in the Maxis titles goes to 4. 4 is almost too much for the average consumer. Skylines, although not maxis does a good job and in some ways better than Maxis but remember its been so long since Maxis had a real team on to Sim City and as others have said the latest Sim City is garbage. Skylies is good, I won't take that away, and if we all want a boat to ride in from this day forth, Skylines has the torch now.
This song, from the first time since I listened until this day, makes me feel an overwhelming sensation of positivy and prosperity. Like seeing a plant grow in a time-lapse. There is a wonderfull orchesta that is our universe.
This is an excellent song, love the choir of angels sound. Now who thinks that SC4 should be remastered for HD? (high res 1080P and texture enhancements).
You can set SimCity 4 to run in Full HD by adding a set of command line instructions. I have done it, no remix needed, the graphics looked every bit as sharp in HD once the resolution is forced onto the game. The information for doing so is all over the internet.
Grijze, have you played Skylines?? Generic? It's by no means generic in my book. I can't follow you at all. Also are you aware that there is some amazing mods for Skylines out now. Further: the non-Maxis argument is pretty flawed too, considering that Maxis was the developers of SC5. While SC4 was also developed by Maxis and was a wonderful masterpiece for it's time (and still is I think), along with a truly amazing soundtrack, SC5 is one of the shittiest city builders I have seen not least considering it's a 2013 game.
Bought this game on steam 3 days ago. Never played simcity franchise but boy I am in love with this game just few hours of gameplay. While City skylines is wonderful, it's the simulation aspect of this game that no one ever recreated. There was some difficulty running it on win 10 but after a google search everything is fine. And now here I am listening to its beautiful soundtrack.
I think it is funny seeing a person that didn't played Simcity first thinking this. SimCity 4 also has very vibrant colors and the graphics still hold up well even today. Cities Skylines feels very dull and you have to jump through hoops and ladders in order to find a good LUT/color correction in the workshop. Lol
@ Facts. Simcity 4 has many small details when zooming into the map like sims hanging out in their backyard whether it be swimming, jumping a trampoline, or sitting back under a gazebo. The random car accidents are funny to watch and in crime-ridden areas of your city, you will often see criminals spray painting graffiti onto buildings. It's small details like this that Cities Skylines 1 and 2 lack.
I actually play SC4 OST while playing Cities: Skylines. Their music is so good that when I play any city building games, I only listen to SC3K and SC4 soundtracks.

She is Chinese, and she lived in a relatively new city that was built not too long ago. The districts of that city reminded me of SimCity. Especially the area by the sea, that place stayed in my heart. The city itself had a unique charm, with its modern architecture blending seamlessly with traditional elements. I still miss her, even though due to certain circumstances we can't be together. We used to have long conversations about our dreams and future plans, which now feel like a distant memory. She was the first girl to whom I gave a beautiful Bouquet... It's been 4 years since we broke up. Her family made her cut off all contact with me and even change her phone number. I remember the days we spent exploring the city, trying new foods, and simply enjoying each other's company. The memories are bittersweet, and sometimes they feel like they were just yesterday. I hope she is happy now, and that life has been kind to her. I still love her, and a part of me always will.

I had absolutely no idea what i was doing at the time, and just kept trying to lightining bolt people and building volcanos everywhere. Something that really stuck with me, is freshness of the soundtrack. The early morning dawn feeling you get. You can't quite explain it to someone, but it's the feeling when the first bird sings, the first bit of light, people starting to go around their days. Its fhe feeling of the elements. When Maxis disappeared, so did the quality of games. When this much detail and attention is put into something as simple as the soundtrack, just like in the early sims games, it shows people that cared and took pride in their work. Unfortunately the EA money machine takes over and quality is replaced with quantity and it shows. Just look at the difference between Sims 3 and 4... exactly, there are none, oh wait you can go online and interact with female Sims who are actually just creepy fat men in their underwear eating cheetos. God i miss my childhood SOOOOOOOOO much.

GREAT soundtrack. This song was a personal favourite years ago. And it STILL is. A Great game too. But this version of Simcity was harder for me to advance in (compared to say Simcity 3000). Still a gem.

I used to smoke weed all day and play this all day 'till the wife came home...she'd say,"you still sittin' here making cities?" The music takes me back to those good old days of chillin', that was before the kid!
For sometime I only listened to so many songs in the game. Then when I went through a 2nd time to see If I liked any other songs, this was the one. Turned favorite out of all other ones.

Here's my take on the Sim City series, as a 25 year old who grew up with all SimCity versions. Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition > SimCity 3000 Unlimited > SimCity 3000 > SimCity 4 > SimCity > SimCity 2000 > SimCity Societies > SimTown > SimCity 2013 SimCity (1989 original) - A simple, classic game. Still holds up well today. The SNES version is highly recommended. Grade: B+ SimCity 2000 - A major leap forward for the series. Groundbreaking and an excellent game for the 1990s, but today there's no point to play it over 3000. Grade: C+ (was an A before SC3000 came out) SimTown: I don't even know how you would get this running today. Very limited in scope. Grade: C- for adults (A for small children) SimCity 3000 - Still holds up very well today. Great mechanics and easy to pick up and play. The Unlimited version is recommended. Grade: A- (A for Unlimited) SimCity 4 - Can be difficult, but a VERY intricate and detailed city simulator that's highly recommended. Get the Deluxe Edition (or add the Rush Hour expansion pack), it offers major upgrades over the original. Grade: B (A+ for Deluxe Edition). +CabalaCicero I blame the poor traffic simulation. As people probably already know, Sims would commute based on travel distance, not the shortest commute time. When you fix that one issue, commerce will boom, and noise, pollution, traffic, and commute time will drop, too.
I remember they made commercials when this game was about to release that you could play for god by blasting your own cities with meteors, volcano's etc. I just needed to buy it.. lol

I think of SimCity 4 as one of those games that you say you'll stop playing in 5 minutes for dinner and the next time you look at the clock it's 3 am.

Sounds so futuristic, "utopia-like" - traveling through a marvelous cityscape with state-of-the-art architecture on a high speed elevated rail.
After all these years SC4 is still the best city-building game.

A really relaxing jam that makes you think well, if you are doing something that takes a lot of mind work and if you want to listen to something that is not distracting this is a good choice.

When Maxis disappeared, so did the quality of games. When this much detail and attention is put into something as simple as the soundtrack, just like in the early sims games, it shows people that cared and took pride in their work. Unfortunately the EA money machine takes over and quality is replaced with quantity and it shows. Just look at the difference between Sims 3 and 4... exactly, there are none, oh wait you can go online and interact with female Sims who are actually just creepy fat men in their underwear eating cheetos. God i miss my childhood SOOOOOOOOO much.

This is objectively true. Fun Fact: A good portion of the Sims 3 soundtrack are just free tracks that anyone can download. Imagine being such a greedy company, that you can't even license original music. FUCK EA.

A Great game too. But this version of Simcity was harder for me to advance in (compared to say Simcity 3000). Still a gem.

I used to smoke weed all day and play this all day 'till the wife came home...she'd say,"you still sittin' here making cities?" The music takes me back to those good old days of chillin', that was before the kid!
For sometime I only listened to so many songs in the game. Then when I went through a 2nd time to see If I liked any other songs, this was the one. Turned favorite out of all other ones.

I agree. It's odd though, some "hardcore" Sim City fans seem to consider 2000 to be the best of the series.
SC2000 was a really good game, I remember playing it when I was like 8 ? That was tons of funs.

Here's my take on the Sim City series, as a 25 year old who grew up with all SimCity versions.
Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition > SimCity 3000 Unlimited > SimCity 3000 > SimCity 4 > SimCity > SimCity 2000 > SimCity Societies > SimTown > SimCity 2013
SimCity (1989 original) - A simple, classic game. Still holds up well today. The SNES version is highly recommended. Grade: B+
SimCity 2000 - A major leap forward for the series. Groundbreaking and an excellent game for the 1990s, but today there's no point to play it over 3000. Grade: C+ (was an A before SC3000 came out)
SimTown: I don't even know how you would get this running today. Very limited in scope. Grade: C- for adults (A for small children)
SimCity 3000 - Still holds up very well today. Great mechanics and easy to pick up and play. The Unlimited version is recommended. Grade: A- (A for Unlimited)
SimCity 4 - Can be difficult, but a VERY intricate and detailed city simulator that's highly recommended. Get the Deluxe Edition (or add the Rush Hour expansion pack), it offers major upgrades over the original. Grade: B (A+ for Deluxe Edition). Pre-teen players may enjoy 3000 more, it's less complicated. But 4: Deluxe Edition is the best choice for adult SimCity players.
SimCity Societies - Can be fun, but is unstable. Falls far short. Grade: C+
SimCity 2013 - Get the physical copy. The disk can be used as a drink coaster. Grade: F- (zero for digital download)

Back in the days playing it and listening to its track made me think the world would be a better place in the future. Its 2024 and Indonesia is moving its capital to the mountains to avoid sea-level rising.

I blame the poor traffic simulation. As people probably already know, Sims would commute based on travel distance, not the shortest commute time. When you fix that one issue, commerce will boom, and noise, pollution, traffic, and commute time will drop, too.
This is definitely my favorite SC4 song, i love the violin at the beginning.....
I remember they made commercials when this game was about to release that you could play for god by blasting your own cities with meteors, volcano's etc.
