The macabre nature of Pikmin is something that is often brought up and used mostly as a way to poke a little fun at the series, but there is something so very refreshing about how you all delve deeper into the topic and the comparison to resident evil 1 was actually quite clever. It's well formulated and very well edited. I especially appreciate how a new clip is often accompanied by the start of a new sentence. It is a common technique, but it's suprising seeing how many don't utilize it, so props to the editor!
Having two hosts in a more analytic essay is also something i have not seen before, made for a quite diverse experience. Cheers!

I think this is probably the best review and analysis I have seen out of a game as a whole. It's perfectly neutral and unbias, and the word choice is exemplary. the very description of submerged castle as a standout makes me want to play through it again.

This is what I love about pikmin on one hand you have the deep disturbing hidden lore and atmosphere that really makes you stop and think and feel like your going down the rabbit hole into the uncanny valley…And on the other hand we have stuff like the giant bread bug.

The water wreith is also uncomfortably smart. I remember one time running away from it and coming to a fork in the road, I went one way and saw it go a different way. I thought I had outsmarted it and let my guard down, not 30 seconds later I lost like half my battalion when it ran into the fucker head on. The Bastard flanked me!

Fantastic video and a great analysis! I think the way its suggested that humans have gone extinct in all 3 games also adds to the anxiety you feel in the game, where you wonder what happened to this world you are on that is so much like Earth

I actually took some of each type of pik.in down there just in case and it involves a lot of throwing them over water to tiny platforms, 6 at a time. Ughhh

The real horror is seeing my purple buddies being massacred in the gameplay. But anyway, yeah. The series is a survival horror easily. Pikmin 3 dabbled in it a lot more on the final boss with Olimar’s logs on it. And now Pikmin 4 is going even harder or the horror elements as well.
Pikmin 4’s demo had an aura around it for me as I played. Something bad is happening off screen and then I learned about all the idiots that tried to go to the planet after Olimar sent an SOS signal. They went for treasure. There’s people dying the entire time just off screen because they have no idea what they’re doing.
Meanwhile you are playing as a rescue team that ironically got stranded as well. And your goal is to no just save Olimar, but as many others as you can. And a lot of those idiots that came to the planet found themselves deep in caves filled with monsters or elemental hazards. And then there’s the night expeditions which put more emphasis on “survival”. You have to face down the local wild life when they are at their most dangerous.
