This gave such strong Souls-like energy, especially with the character’s reactions. The scene that really stood out to me was the caution in entering the classic large open boss fight room. Love it!
To all Independents, your time is now! Big Studio is dead. Disney is dead. The world thirsts for entertainment. This is your chance to put your mark in the Industry!
There's so much good attention to detail here, but I want to specifically call out the moment when she barely catches the stone with her fingertips and then readjusts her grip. A little moment that felt very real.
My new favorite movie. Beginning that draws you totally in, an epic middle that has you bringing your face closer to the screen and an ending that just felt right and not hastily done. 100 out of 10, will recommend.
A nice animated movie or game can be made from this short video. It was a very nice and successful production. I would like to thank everyone who contributed.
That is a fantastic piece of work, the sequencing of the events was great and the battle was thrilling! Also, that guy in the throne was definitely what nightmares are made of... thanks guys
Many Unreal short films have had issues with lifeless eyes and expressionless faces. Not the case with this little beauty of a film. Wonderfully done, I want to see more of this world!
Alex St. Pierre a Tip Of The Fedora to you, truly you are a Maestro. Forlorn is filled with enthralling scenes and edgy soul characters that exude from out of walls, floors, and entrance ways. Enchanting, thrilling, and breathtaking to the final scene...Bravo Project Forlorn Bravo. A real deal reel.
I can't imagine how much effort you put on this piece. The camera work and story is very compelling. I absolutely love the villain design.Amazing result! Congratulations!
Very lovely in every respect! And thank you thank you for taking the time to use film's most underused superpower: the amazing narrative capabilities it uniquely possesses. So many of these short films we see every week are just a series of images and actions, operating in a vacuum...no story at all.
Thank you so much. I’ve begun my rescore and will share with you once finished. I’m loving spending such intimate time with your film, which continues to intrigue me.
I've been watching a few bits of animation on TH-cam, and thankfully, this video popped up onto my feed. Visuals, sound editing, characters, etc, all left me wanting more: Who were the two nasties who hired her? Why was SHE hired? The history of the object, etc. An absolute treat to watch on a Saturday morning. My only disappointment was that there is not enough of it! 😉👍🏼👏🏼. I'm now subscribed, so I look forward to seeing more of your content 😁
MAKE ALOT MORE MEDIEVAL STILE SHORT FILMS LIKE THIS ONE!!! PLEASE!!! THIS IS AN AMAZING SHORT FILM!!! I WANT TO SEE MORE AND MORE SHORT FILMS LIKE THIS ONE!!!😃😃😃💚💚💚
This was absolutely amazing if it was a video game I would spend many hours of my life playing it. If this was a movie I'd buy it. I want more I totally need more that was absolutely amazing.
Another creation with Unreal Engine. An amazing piece of tech so few know about. (And yet people still believe in UFO's. lol) Great short, hope to see more from these creators. All you have to do is imagine it today, and it can be created for others to enjoy. Thanks to Alex and Toft who created Forlorn. Great job. (There are even some Star Wars shorts made with Unreal Engine.) And I'm sure plenty of others I'm not even familiar with.
These kinds of shorts have been popping up on my feed, and they are nothing short of amazing! The amount of detail and storytelling squeezed into 2 short minutes is incredible. I know this question is coming from extreme naivety, but... How realistic is the idea that someone with ZERO experience could use Unreal Engine and create a short film just like this in a year? Are the tools all accessible? Could it be done from the comfort of your own home using a laptop? Can anyone point me in the right direction on where a total noob could pick this up as a hobby?
Thank you so much for your kind words, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! Regarding your question, the short answer is: It depends. It depends on the scope of what you want to do, and how much CG experience you already have. If you're already familiar with 3D software and know the ins-and-outs of animation, modeling, rigging, lighting, texturing, FX, simulation, and camerawork, then picking up Unreal and using it to assemble a short film from scratch in a year is certainly possible, though it would still require an enormous amount of time and work. This particular short, for example, took me over three years to put together, and that's with a decade of prior experience working with Maya and Unreal professionally every single day. That being said, even if you are starting completely from zero, I would still absolutely encourage you to jump in and give it a go! These days, UE5 has so many tools to make a film that you don't really need to use any other software. It has metahumans, basic in-engine modeling and rigging, and a whole host of free assets that you can download from the marketplace that you can use for sets, props, and animation - more than enough to put something together, even if it's just for fun. And best of all, you can dig into these free assets and use them to teach yourself how a lot of the systems are utilized - from materials to FX to blueprints and beyond. My biggest advice for someone just starting would be to start small. Don't worry about making an entire short film from the get-go, you'll get there in time. Just focus on one shot, one character, one environment. Keep it short, just a few seconds - a gag, a punch, even just a character walking across the screen. And once you've done that, add to it, do something just a little big more advanced, and bit by bit you'll work up your knowledge until, eventually, you can basically create whatever you can envision. And if you have a story to tell, I wouldn't stop at just learning Unreal. I'd also encourage you to study film, cinematography, writing, story structure, you name it. Unfortunately I don't have any specific resources to recommend, as I learned all this stuff so long ago that it's now woefully out of date, but TH-cam is full of incredible creators and tutorials, and Epic also has a good amount of videos going over the basics of the software. I'm sure you shouldn't have any trouble starting out. And yes, you can absolutely make a film on just a laptop. Forlorn was made using UE4.25 and rendered on a GTX1080, which is comedically underpowered compared to what's out there today. Really, PC power isn't what's important, its how you use what you have. Anyway, I hope that was helpful. Thanks again for taking the time to watch my short, and I wish you all the best.
@@projectforlorn Thank you so much for such a comprehensive response! Your journey and your results speak for themselves and are inspiring all on their own... but your message to give it a shot is even more inspiring! A lot of useful information here, and I gotta be honest I wasn't expecting such a long and thoughtful response. Gonna dive in ASAP! Thanks again man
Loved the part where the girl has second thoughts about fighting "lady talons, keeper of the throne" (my silly name for her) and looks past her at the piece which makes spider eyes mommmy longlegs move in between her sight
Horray! It's finally here! Such a beautifully animated, engaging story with so much care given to every detail. Amazing work Alex and team. This is so inspiring to me as an Unreal user. I can't wait to see what you do next!
Best fantasy I've seen iin months, excellent character, scary monsters. I liked how the throne occupant also fought the tree monster, it wasn't all one way, like so many anime battles. A good bit of steampunk in the mix. I quickly liked the girl-boss mercenary doing it for the money, I assume.. What else ya got?
This is great. The only critique I have is the design choice for the protagonist, while everything has a Victorian-Gothic aesthetic used in From Software games, she has a Pixar/Disney design.
This is great. I especially like the creature designs. The blending of human and tree forms is quite unique.
This gave such strong Souls-like energy, especially with the character’s reactions. The scene that really stood out to me was the caution in entering the classic large open boss fight room. Love it!
It's literally called Forlorn.
To all Independents, your time is now! Big Studio is dead. Disney is dead. The world thirsts for entertainment. This is your chance to put your mark in the Industry!
I'm coming 🎉
There is no story, nothing new in Hollywood.
We still need Gigantic computers with... "Unreal" GPUs, SSD, RAM etc...
First step, make money by trading then start doing animation@@chouawarasteven
They'll be bought by Disney if successful.
The expressions on the character's face, so relatable. Excellent work!
and the Sabine wren clone.
It's a crime this doesn't have more views. This kicked ass. Amazing job.
Extra comment for extra engagement. I dunno, might as well.
@fistoszeus2527 A LAD CAN DREAM

That was outstanding! Excellent work on the special effects and sound track. Perfectly suited for making this a larger full feature film.
Feels like a cinematic trailer for a game. This was so cool
Finally, a short film that delivers on all counts. Nicely done.
A nice animated movie or game can be made from this short video. It was a very nice and successful production. I would like to thank everyone who contributed.
This is so awesome, it feels like Pixar dark souls
The guy who made this must be an animation genius
That is a fantastic piece of work, the sequencing of the events was great and the battle was thrilling! Also, that guy in the throne was definitely what nightmares are made of... thanks guys
well I shouldn't have watched this right before bed...
Still absolutely fantastic.

Plz make more. Sweet short...love the character. Not corny...enough action..good fight scenes...good facial expressions. Great stuff
This is amazing!! I absolutely loved how smooth the attacks of the king looking guy were, I can't wait to see what's next
it beautifully captures the dark souls/elden ring players pov. it made me laugh and I enjoyed the salute cut to flip-off at the end!
Hervorragende Arbeit. Schlüssiger Szenenaufbau, guter Spannungsbogen, excellentes Design und eine Pointe! Kompliment!

I liked it. I hope there'll be sequels, prequels... whatever: additions in the story.
Dark Souls but with a plot and better boss resolution 😂 is a great job!! Keep doing it!

God damn, very cool. Love the world and the characterization.
Minimal dialog, and still a great story! Now I'm curious about the world of Forlorn. 😊

Outstanding, everything was top notch and fun. Could we have some more, please.

This looks very similar to Remnant 2’s location of Losomn, but a few key variations. Well done, this looks amazing
Great work, loved the stylized nature of the characters.
Out of scale…AMAZING 😲🫨😵💫
I'm looking forward to her 'hearing from us', too! 😊
Оригинально, интересно, красиво. Отличная работа!
Not so bad..., very interesting film..., congratulation...!!! To be continue...???
Wow wow wow! Amazing work to everyone involved. I loved it!

Superb! Loved it! Make it longer. Sequel please! 👍🍿🍿🍿
Whoa! Astonishing. Stunning.
Engaging, entertaining and impressive.
Very cool. Hero wins not by simply overpowering all obstacles; but by pure spunkiness and luck. :)
woow just the sound side alone .. mesmerizing
I literally feel like this is Sabine in a alternate universe
Sure looks similar to the 'clone wars show to me too
If this was a fromsofts game with cinematics like this, guns and climbing like in raider it would be great
Very cute, nice characters and very understandable story line. Loved it!
Incredible job, honestly this is some really amazing work👏👏👏
Really good stuff... more please 👏. A few things need to be more shadows from a distance and there was no sound when the rock first hit the chair...
Great story and grafts, please continue your work.
so cool - i hope there will be more episodes!
I'm just learning 3d and those things really impress me, it's incredible, I will gladly see you other works
Total Awesome!
Amazing work and story.
its the "here we go again" looks that made it for me
I want to see a full length film. Nice work.
Very good work Project Forlorn! Hope to see more projects in the future as your talent is indisputable
Very nice 👍! Well done Project Forlorn, well done ‼️
good shit. nice way to tie the bow on at the end too
the 300+ unlikes, are in PURE ENVY AND JEALOUSY, now thats a real crime against Original Thought and pure Hardwork.
A new “Tomb Raider” is born… but this is so much more.
No, it Dark Souls...
That was really good, like really really good! Bravo!
Great Job!! loved the story and cgi
Marvelous!! and a smart tough heroine too🎆🎇🎊🎉
this needs to be fleshed out to a fully functional game.
"Complications?! I almost died you idiot! Give me my damn money, I need a shower & some Chick-fil-A....ASAP!"😂 DOPE flick! 💯🙌🏾

Amazing work! So many fantastic shots and well-paced scenes. Very happy I got to see this project finished!!!
So. well done I forgot it was Unreal and just engaged with the story! Your hard work really paid off!!!
Awesome! really great video👍👍👍👍
Finally one with a story.
Incredible!
Brilliant video!!
faaaantastic work!!!!
Its been said before but, I'll say it again. This is better than most of the tripe, Hollyweird puts out these days.
Wow Remnant 3 looking pretty good!
That was sick AF! I loved it!
This is awesome stuff, keep up the amazing work.
Color me very impressed !!!
I'm a 55 year old woman and this kinda shit is right in my wheel house
This is great. The only critique I have is the design choice for the protagonist, while everything has a Victorian-Gothic aesthetic used in From Software games, she has a Pixar/Disney design.
really like how the 2 monsters fought
Superbe et original enfin ! Bravo
That… that was freakin amazing
Kept me watching. That's really hard to do. Good job
