Hi! The rec button for vídeo while you are in M mode for photo, it's default in C3 vídeo mode, which it doesn't let you change parameters. Is there any option to change that into Manula mode for vídeo. Somtimes you may need start recording while you are taking pictures (for example in the middle of a wedding to help your partner) and would be nice not ending into a C3 automatic video mode.

Hi Jack, 24p is quality to the frame rate for movies and will have a different feel from 30p, which is more related to television. It wont be a big difference, but it might change the feeling for some viewers.
@@JohnGress Thanks John. I'll be shooting some video Friday which may/may not be used for PR on a local TV station, so I'll use 30p. That's what I needed to know.
Thank you John! I have a question though that I can't seem to find the answer to: What do I have to do to be able to shoot 120fps in 4K? I'm only able to shoot 100fps.. I have the latest firmware update 1.2.0. Thanks
Thank you. I believe this is why. If you are not in the US your camera is likely set to PAL and that is the reason why. To have access to 120 you would need to switch it to NTSC. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL
I've been looking all over the internet and I can't find the answer. Can this camera do 4k video in H.264 format? H.265 is useless to me with my current computer.
One thing o noticed, my R5, 'talking' german to me, does not show fps, it shows transmission rate ..(maybe that is also somewhere a parameter to set .. 4K HQ Mode shows not 120 it tells me e transfer rate of 100 (b/sec?)
I think your options under 4K if you have your video system (yellow 2) set to PAL should be 50 or 25, and instead of 120 you should have 100. Just like the metric system yours makes sense. Why do we in NTSC have 24, 30, 60 and 120.
This is incredibly good for helping me, the still photographer, to break into video shooting with this fabulous camera. Thanks for mentioning occasional shooting with RAW and 8k.... Just how much better is shooting in this higher quality? Would it mean that a still frame would be closer to shooting in still frame mode?
That is great to hear. Thank you so much Kenneth! 4k HQ (fine) is like the lest compressed jpeg. It's sharp and you can color correct it, but you can't push it around too much. RAW video is just like RAW stills.
Amazing... I’ll try it out and will be amazing if I can shoot high speed subjects with this ‘higher frame rate’ and get just the right moment of capture in the action. Is there any control over shutter speed when using video for this purpose? I’d like to set it to 1/2000 sec. or higher.
Hi John, Thanks so much for this! Which of these video resolution settings offer 10 bit color? Does 4K HQ at 30FPS offer this? Or is it only 8K and 4K 120FPS? Happy New Year!
After reading the manual, which is quite confusing, It appears that as long as you are shooting 8K or 4K in a log setting, not in H/264, and not a time lapse, to the CFexpress card that you will get 10-bit. However, I am unclear if this is true for HD.
Thank you very much John ! That helps - do you have any tips for the right LUT- I just downloaded the ones for R5 from Canon but it is really confusing, to many to choose the right one.
Thanks Dirk. Wide DR is sort of like Neutral for photos, its ads contrast and saturation and isn't as pronounced as standard, which is similar to Rec709. I hope this helps.
I have got Canon EOS R5. My video system is set to PAL, I come from India. I am planning to record a video with FHD(1920x1080) Unfortunately I do not get option to set my frame rate to 23.98. Also when I try to set to closest available 24, I get a message “these items can not be combined”. Question : How can I set my frame rate to 23.98P in PAL video system? Note : If I change the video system to NTSC, I get an option to set the frame rate to 23.98P. But that will result into light flicker in video.
if you have flicker try to boost shutter speed to next available setting or less。 for example if you record 23.98 than your shutter speed is 50fps,try 60 or 40
Hi! I just received my R5 and my options are different. I dont have 23.98 or 120 high frsme rate? Do you happen to know why? I am using an UHS-I Sd, is that why? Can i only shoot higher quality with cfexpress? Thank you
It's likely that you need to switch the Video System in menu> Set up2 >screen 2, from Pal To NTSC. You will likely want to use the system that matches to your location. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC
@@JohnGress thanks so much for your info! why would it be an issue though, out of curiosity? Also if I use PAL I don't have 8k options, is that normal?
Oh, I didn't know that about the 8k. I think the general concern is how it may look on screens in the UK since they referesh at 50 times per second so 24p may look odd. I'm not 10% sure about this.
Thanks! Couldn't believe how Canon have video mode so hidden / tucked away. They need to have it to be able to be on 'standby' mode with one button press. You can switch from Stills to Movie by customising the M-Fn button - but don't allow you to customise any other button to do this (which is strange) Be good to be able to customise the red top 'record' button for this...
If you click the red record button, it switches from Stills mode to Movie C3 mode instantly. Or, you can customize a button to switch modes. Its a pretty flexible camera
@@JohnGress when I press record on the canon, it doesn’t make a confirmation beep like the sony does. This has led to a couple shots where I thought I hit record, but must not have pressed it hard enough.
I’d like to set it to 1/2000 sec. or higher.
Hi John,
Thanks so much for this!
@@JohnGress Thanks John, I will check that out. It is really amazing how many different Luts are in the R5 download with really no explanation 😂
How did you get movie rec quality in menu2
Once you are in video mode, Movie Record Quality is in Shoot 1.
I have got Canon EOS R5. My video system is set to PAL, I come from India. I am planning to record a video with FHD(1920x1080)
Unfortunately I do not get option to set my frame rate to 23.98.
Pal frame rates are normally 25p and 50p
if you have flicker try to boost shutter speed to next available setting or less。 for example if you record 23.98 than your shutter speed is 50fps,try 60 or 40
@@JohnGress That was indeed the issue! I am in the UK, is it a problem if I use NTSC?
It could be an issue. It's probably best to use PAL, 25p and 100p.
If u shoot video on FHD does R5 has problem whit overheating?
No.
@@JohnGress thank u
couldnt find how to get to video mode an you got to it 50sec in, thanks 😅
Glad I could help! Yeah its not intuitive... regular mode, not mode plus info, would have made more sense.
Thanks! Yes, the two button illogical move is a poor design.
If you click the red record button, it switches from Stills mode to Movie C3 mode instantly. Or, you can customize a button to switch modes.
Its a pretty flexible camera
Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks!

Canon R5 does not beep when pressing record! am I missing something on the setting?
I don't recall a canon DSLR or C series camera which I have owned doing this.
@@JohnGress when I press record on the canon, it doesn’t make a confirmation beep like the sony does. This has led to a couple shots where I thought I hit record, but must not have pressed it hard enough. I’m now checking every time that the record icon shows on the screen, but it’d be nice to have a sound confirmation.
Is all-i and .mp4? Is 4K HQ .h265?
I believe the camera switches into h.265 when you use the log settings.
very helpful. thanks a lot
You're welcome!
remember to add room tone back in when you kill your mic track
Thanks, lately I have been doing that or been less aggressive.
When I go to the menu it says “image quality” instead of “movie rec size”
I think you’re in stills mode. Try pressing mode> info > set
Thank You 🙏🙏🙏
You're so welcome 😊
Good stuff man! Thank you for your hard work! 🙌🏻
My pleasure! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this, my R5's video capability is completely wasted on me. but I'm trying to do better. Now I just need to figure out how to actually edit the video I record and I'll be set
Thanks! That is the next hurdle, but you can do it! If you want to get your feet wet with imovie, I don't think it can handle 24 or 23.98 FPS video so I would shoot in 30P (29.97).
Well done.
Thank you so much!
is it just me or was there no talking about the audio settings?
I didn't even think about addressing that because I don't record real audio with the camera. Sorry.
thanks a lot !
Thank you!
Helpful!
Thank you so much!

im surprised that complete beginners are buying the r5.
I am also. I have seen posts in some forums by people that have never had any camera before except their phone camera. This is not an easy camera to master the settings on - had mine for a week before I really got everything set to where I really want.
Please guide..How to shoot 10 bit 4:2: 2 video footage on Canon R5? does it shoot 10 bit 4:2: 2 only in C-Log? DO it has to be ALL-I or IPB to get 10 bit 4:2: 2?
It has to be LOG and it has to record to the CFExpress Card. I am not sure about All I or IPB.
thank you!
