Nice video !! I am new in 3d printing but i have experience with electronics and programming
I have for a little while a ender 3 v2 and i got it with the 'silent board 4.2.2'!
I found out that in early V2's they shiped with 4.2.7 boards! I did some research and I found that 4.2.2
makes the stepper motors a bit hotter and not so quiet as they should also makes them to lose layers in
prints! Can u make a video about that issue if there is one in the first place! Greetings from Greece!

Great review! I just placed an order for one to add to my farm/collection, as Amazon Canada is having a pretty good deal now. About $245 US equivalent, shipped and no taxes, how could I say no. I do hope they provide a FW update for the name scrolling.

  • @byzhiphop
    @byzhiphop 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I ended up upgrading mine to a BTT board as I thought the extruder stepper died after a direct drive upgrade (turns out it was just a cable so.. meh), but ended up also for the touchscreen with the simple Marlin reprap screen "emulator" and I did not regret it. That color screen is more of a hindrance than help, quite honestly... for those that don't know: these screens are separate little devices with their own firmware, meaning you lose a lot of flexibility the basic, monochrome pixely screens have, especially if you upgrade and compile Marlin yourself and want to do funkier things like sync to OctoPrint, use the Pause command and the like as these screens are fairly separate modules... so for example... on pause they just start beeping but you get no pop-up prompt to continue, etc. You can also not modify the menu structure, add new things like the Z offset wizard, or compile the firmware yourself etc.
I also really hate that bed glass, upgrading that to a flexible PEI sheet was truly a game-changer because I stopped struggling with first layer warping, etc.
It's also worth upgrading the Z axis to a dual rod setup to prevent droop. I myself installed a Micro Swiss direct drive / hot-end kit and with this set-up I'm pretty much completely satisfied with it --- I printed PLA at 100mm/s without any giant quality downgrades or print defects, bridging and overhangs are pretty on point, too. Even ran 2 day+ prints. I've printed PLA and PETG with not too many issues (petg needed some tuning, though) and i'm now venturing into flexibles.
Oh, and I also replaced the fans on it, the hot-end fan pretty much started dying after a month and a half and started making weird noises the moment it was started, kinda disappointing..
It's also worth compiling your own up-to-date customized Marlin builds.

Great video. I agree, I think Creality needs to lower the price a bit to stay competitive with the competition. Would still love to see you do a video on the Voxelab Aquila, I dont have one, but I have talked to too many people who only have great things to say about it and it is an almost 1 to 1 clone of the Ender 3 v2 for quite a bit cheaper.

What I want to know.. the E3V3 can be had for around $250 . Amazon currently has an Elegoo Neptune 2 in stock at $160. So is the E3V2 worth almost $100 more over the Elegoo. I know there is a bigger community and more secondary market support for the E3, but being that it is essentially a clone a lot of that will also be compatible with the Neptune2.
And if Elegoo will get their head screwed on right and get enough Neptunes out there the community support for it will pickup as well.

I have had one for a little over a year and it was my starting printer. Since I was just learning I spent A LOT of time in the slicer but now that I understand the slicer and have my settings it is great. I have very few print problems with it. One thing I do different is that I use the smooth glass side of the bed rather than the dimpled side. I just get better adhesion with it. If you haven’t got it just trust me when I say be patient with the slicer it will pay off and you will love it.

Got mine a year ago, maybe a year and a half? Its great though, few problems outside of my own learning how to level, but I got it perfect now and have no problems at all, printed a bunch of miniatures and they came out pretty well, and just recently printed a large combat helmet and gas mask for cosplay (FNV mojave ranger armor) and it did great on it with no problems ^^. As far as fan noise, it is a bit loud but I have it just 3ft from my bed and was able to sleep through the 3days it took to print the mask in one go. The UI and screen work well, its simple enough touch screen wouldnt really matter, but I do agree that the names need to show more for the files.

From the other videos I've seen of this printer if you spray hair spray on the bed it'll hold the print well enough and if you let it cool to room ramp it'll actually "pop" the seal on its own so you won't need to use a scraper and risk damaging the glass bed.

I'll be 100% honest, a loud fan is a plus for me...
I use to live in an area for most my life that got up to 120°f regularly in summer, and I got an industrial fan as a result for my room to keep cool.
I used it so much overnight that even now that I live in a colder climate, I still keep it on overnight... Cause I can't relax, and go to sleep without the loud hum of the fan circulating the air.
So having another loud fan in my room honestly won't bother me, even if the estimated 50 db that the Ender 3 V2 has is way quieter then my Industrial Fan.

Edit: the two ender 3 pros we ordered came in. While they have the 32 bit 4.2.2 board, for some reason creality decided to put the "noisy" drivers in the pro and regular ender 3 boards. The displays are far better than the v2 however and I am able to enable things like babystepping and the bed leveling menus.
The ender 3 pro is starting to ship with silent boards. I have two November 2020 built pros and they come with the silent board.
I personally don't like the screen on the ender 3v2, jogging the machine is a pain and the interface isn't as polished as the reprap screens.
For our print farm we decided to get more ender 3 pros since they come with the silent board anyways which was the big reason we bought two v2s earlier.

I have a feeling that it's not a Mean Well power supply, as Mean Well has replaced the voltage selector switch with automatic power level detection across all of their power supplies, correct? It looks like this printer might be good for a novice beginner who is looking to upgrade over time. That Godzilla print looks freakin' amazing. Props to the creator.
My BigTree-Tech order finally arrived more than a month after I ordered it, so I can finally start drafting, building and installing some of the upgrades that I have planned. I wasn't comfortable creating a Marlin build for the Ender 5 Plus, as Creality wasn't willing to answer some questions about the source that they released. I can't use the Mosquito hot-end w/o making changes to the firmware for the maximum temperature and the thermistor.
It is very frustrating trying to work with Creality, as they don't seem to understand that owners of their products buy to be modified, and that we need replacement parts. It's impossible to obtain more than 1/2 of parts that makeup the printer. I'm probably going to need to outsource a couple Nema 17 motor mounts that are identical to the one that holds the Y-axis 42-48 motor in place. I'm also trying to figure out an alternative for the limit switch assemblies, as they are unique to the Ender 5, and not available anywhere.
Anywho, have a great weekend! Things are finally starting to look better.

I was not aware of them removing the switch on Meanwell psus. Was this fairly recent? Yeah I really do not think this is a bad machine and the feedback I have gotten from people that own it is primarily positive. Right! I love the model.
Doesnt Creality have the Ender 5 plus firmware avasilable? What info where you looking to get that they didnt provide? Check out Tiny Machines. They are US based and carry quite a bit of spare parts for Creality machines. I have ordered steppers from them and x carriage mounts.
      Have an awesome weekend.

    • @cnc-maker
      @cnc-maker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ModBotArmy I guess it depends upon the series. It looks like the LRS models do have the switch, while the RSP models do not. So it could be an LRS model that you have.
The source that they released was for an older version of the firmware that is 2 releases behind the current. Even if I was able to get them to answer the questions, I was going to replace the MB anyway, so I changed my plans to do it earlier, rather than later.
I checked out Tiny Machines 3D, and wasn't able to find the assemblies there either. I found most everything on RepRap.me, plus an alternate, so I placed an order with them. Hopefully I won't have to wait another month for those parts.
I found a stepper motor bundle on Amazon that contains the Creality steppers for a pretty low price, and I purchased a couple of them. I'm going to start building a test box this weekend, so that I can test MBs with motors and switches outside of the printer. I also need to design the enclosure to mount the 7" display on my Ender 5 Plus.
      Have a GREAT weekend yourself!

@@ModBotArmy My earlier reply I was half asleep. Of course those things would be an improvement over the ender 3 I expect you would like to know a little more detail. So while it has the same type of bed leveling as an ender 3 I have noticed that I did not have to level it as much as my v2. Hell I can't even get anything to stick with my v2 it's been sitting in limbo for weeks now. My favorite for detailed work was the B1 but on my last print the filament got stuck and engulfed my hotend fans and all. I have not had any issues like that with the ender 6. I don't know if maybe because it is a core xy and the buildplate is moving away from the hotend that it is less likely to have filament build up on the nozzle or being my third printer I have became better at getting a level bed and start with the nozzle placement. The touchscreen is really basic. From the main screen you have three options. Print / Temp / Settings. You have your auto temp settings under temp, and you have your motion and feed options under settings. Most of the stuff gives you a few options here and there. I did switch to the all metal hotend in which I have had a few issues with it printing but that is more due to feed rates and the all metal hotend. I also need to check some settings in cura for some z alignment issues that I didn't have before but I also recently imported the CHEP cura profiles. Most of the stuff I print is 100 % infill, it does seem to take less time printing than the ender 3 which is nice with what I do with it. It comes with the upgraded springs and the metal extruder which is nice as well as the enclosure. The one thing I did not like is that it has the ability to install a BLtouch, but the connector style to hit the board it connects to wants the same size connector that is on the BLtouch itself so a mini connector and sadly the one I bought is the one for the V2. That has been the extent of my experience with it. I found it was super easy to set up. You will have to run a micro usb from the mainboard up out of the bottom area in order to have a USB connection. IT wasn't a big deal to me though. It is weird that all their other printers use micro SD cards while this one uses a full size SD card. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask
