Yes that was his story unfortunately as wonderful as it is for people to share their stories society thinks all addicts are one size fits all. Yes there are programs that require abstinence there are others that accept it depends on the individual. They don’t encourage risky behavior while understanding we are all human as a CADC myself having over a decade clean 8:18 I can occasionally celebrate but I don’t hang out in bars. It’s usually a nice dinner with friends or family. I encourage my clients to get to know their bodies create boundaries and never breach them treating a person as an individual rather than a textbook case is paramount to recovery

He did help the defendant by not reporting the van stolen and keeping him out of prison. Just pay him or help him get another one and some tools.
Other than the drugs, I have a feeling the Defendant also suffers from a learning disability. Not saying this to be mean, just a fact that many "slower" adults tend to resort to drugs when life becomes overbearing due to challenges (can't go to school, demanding jobs overwhelm them, etc). People like this don't just need drug treatment, they need a LIFE coach. If you don't cure the root, the branches will never heal.
