  • Let's explore three of the top insights from my favorite marketing book of all time. It's a book I've read multiple times over the past fifteen years and one that has had a profound impact on my businesses over that time.
It's The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing by Al Ries and Jack Trout. In this short book summary I'm going to share the first, second, and ninth laws from the book. Be sure to read the entire book if you're interested in exploring these ideas in far more detail. It's a relatively short read, so I recommend it to anyone interested in business, marketing, or business strategy.

This strategy is actually relieving from a competitive market space. If you can define that unique feature that you offer, apart from others in your space, then technically you are removing competition as this is what you only can offer. It also helps me re think strategies which is always fun! Thanks again for another insightful video. Nice examples also! Brings back memories.

Position Yourself as a Strong #2 - Being the Opposite: More modern brands that come to mind are AEW (a strong #2, with many things distinguishing them as "Anti-WWE"), Sega Genesis as being the "Grown Ups" alternative to Kiddie Nintendo games, and even Playstation with Crash Bandicoot mocking Mario outside Nintendo headquarters. By the way, here's your 100th like for this video :)

Ahh, I’m less familiar with the backstory of those brands but at first glance they seem as solid examples. Thank you for sharing!

At 8:02 you say if your not the leader in the category (than make a new category).
    2 questions:
    - leader or leading brand? Kinda the same but in some ecommerce cases a lot of people buy stuff from the number 1 on Google or the best ad but are not connected to the brand.
    - if you choose the same product as the leader but change the perspective (buy reason or positioning). Does that work?

The book “Brand New Name” is a solid one for naming a brand. I covered it in a recent monthly reading highlights video if you want to learn more.

Thanks Again. I am failing to relate the Law of Leadership with NOKIA and ERICSON which came first BUT have now been replaced BY SAMSUNG,TECNO and HUAWEI in the telecom handsets market in East Africa.. The Law Of Leadership seems not to apply as far as I can see......
