For those wondering about the wood stain: "To make an iron mordant, you can use rusty iron objects, such as rusty nails or screws, and submerge them in vinegar. Let the mixture sit for a few weeks or until the liquid changes color, indicating that the iron/rust has dissolved. Strain the liquid and use it as a mordant."
The objects put in vinegar don't have to be rusty. He applied the stain to oak wood: the tanin in the wood is reacting to metal with a dark colouration. You can stain anywood but higher the acid(tanin) amount in wood the stronger the "tan".
I didn't sleep last night to meet a deadline for a large oak framed mirror for a client today. The project has just been delivered and in spite of having worked in the shop until dawn, I find so much peace watching your video with my first meal of the day. Thank you.
One thing I like about this channel is no talking. Just doing. No sponors, no monologues into the camera, no apologies about this, that and the other. No explanation or justification. Just doing.
Lovely aquarium stand. I really like the iron stain. Also, the video camerawork was especially well done in this video. [hope that Shiro is doing well...missed seeing him around the shop]
You are a master. Love the craftsmanship. I would never be able to put my faith in that stain. I know its a permanent thing but it has never been my favorite because there's no guarantee that you can get an even coat or even level of staining. You did a marvelous job as usual. I hope it wears well.
Glad to see another new video from you. Been a long time subscriber but, just wasn't getting notifications, stupid youtube. You sir are true craftsman, truly enjoy your video's and your attention to detail in your work. I want to say, "Thank you" for taking the time to make these video's and huge Thank you for sharing them with us. Excellent video, cheers :) P.S. Since youtube only gives 1 thumbs up, I'm giving you two thumbs up. 👍👍
Wow. I had no idea East Asian walnut looked just like American White Oak. Excellent work as always. I love seeing your techniques and precise detailing. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful as always! I am curious about the planning work that happens beforehand and noticed the beautiful color plans at the start. It might be worth a separate video to show the thought and planning going into a project. I understand it might not be visually engaging enough for TH-cam format, but maybe collect footage over time to publish a once off video. Lots of respect and love.
Dear artist, I have been watching you with pleasure and sometimes many times since the first day you broadcast on TH-cam. Thank you very much for these beautiful shares. And my wish I wish you shared more, I wish less technological devices were used There is nothing like art, dexterity and mastery.
Magnifique !
Great workmanship, like always. Just a note on the finishing process you have used: ebonizing works for any kind of wood that contains enough tannin to react with the iron acetate, at least in its surface layer. You can therefore blacken any wood that will soak some liquid into its surface by first applying a few layers of extremely concentrated black tea. This way, you can blacken even maple, which has naturally very low tannin content.
Very very nice. Congratulations. How do you keep mice and other varmints from destroying your planks you have outside? I would tend to believe racoons, skunks, inadition to mice and moles would invade your lumber and set up a nest in there. Even birds such as woodpeckers could do some damage to your wood.
What a calming way to work ... and very meditative to watch. That "super surfacing" machine is fantastic! Quite literally a motorized hand plane. Are they only available in Japan?
Not really fan of that stain… it hides the beautiful wood and master joinery you've done… Anyway, I'm really happy to see a new video from you, they are so peaceful and always show a great craftsmanship level !
I love your videos, watch them as soon as they are uploaded. On this one though, you spent so much effort on facing the grains, why cover it with such a dark destroyer of a stain?
😍😒🤭 Tolle Arbeit, meisterlich! ✌️❤️
No music, no commenting, just the sound of the process and great craftsmanship. Love this channel

Thank you. I've seen it described but never seen it used.

I'm assuming that is another name for ebonizing woods with tanins?
New one to me, every day is a schoolday, (well, especially with Mr Ishitani).

Your craftsmanship and how your wife captures you through her videography is equally inspiring. Such a wonderful team.

Maybe a better idea was staining the front of the drawer before assembling. The contrast between the tails and the blind pins would be great!
That's a very nice way to stain wood. gonna have to remember that.
Breathtaking
Cok guzel olmus . Eline saglik

It turned out beautifully! But where is the gecko?
Hey what do you dip your chisels in? very intrigued
Long time no see a tortoise and dog in your video

😍😒🤭
Tolle Arbeit, meisterlich!
✌️❤️
I wonder how you mange to get this stain what was used oil and rust nails only?
It’s usually made with vinegar and wire wool. Leave it to cure for a couple of days and you end up with an iron stain.
👍👍
I love Japan People 🎉
Sensacional.
Quantos dias levou pra fazer?
Where's your pet, Mr Ishitani?
🐾 We all enjoy seeing Shiro! 😎✌️
Where is the Quality Inspector?
Shiro, has our favorite Quality Inspector crossed the rainbow bridge or was his schedule too busy for this one?
I wish i had half the equipment he has
@13:18 Even a Master gets bit every once in a while.
