Yes the same one he builds model railroads he has been in model railroad several times. He builds on the road in hotel room stated he uses poster board for clean work surface.. Your color scheme is great.. Trying to get back into building after a stroke with my new 9 old daughter so your series r outstanding
you should show the painting process too...
Yea I dunno how to prime :P
I showed a lot of those steps in a previous series so I didn't feel the need to show them again.
"previous series" dude you got over 1000 videos @.@
ZakuAurelius think you should make a playlist for the series, BUT I'll do it for ya after I'm done watching XD
which ones? im about to do my first painted kit and have no idea how to get rid of seam lines then paint it, cause then i wouldnt be able to paint the inner frame and armour seperate, and the big mystery of putting it all together
Part 3: Painting.....shows no painting whatsoever.....
Nepu-Tech USA I covered painting as a tutorial in video #155, didn't really see the need to show the process again in this video. This was more to show what I painted, not how I painted it.
Even after just primer, this simple cheap kit looks so much better. This is how we should have done those old Gundam Wing kits.
Hi Zaku! I just started with this hobby and I am quite impressed with the work you did on such a simple kit. You got me wanting to paint my kit.
i just paint on the runners with laquer spray cans of tamiya. mask and paint details with airbrush. panel line. decal. clearcoate in airbrush. i never sand just clip nubs off really good.
I like the purple because it adds colour to the 'stealth'!
i really like this series. im a beginning gunpla builder with a low budget. this is perfect for me
+Alex Huygens Glad to hear it!
Yeah I didn't learn anything by listening to you explain how it works instead of showing......good final product though. It looks like Star Scream
Hey you forgot about either poster board or foam core board instead of cutting Matt. I heard rod Stewart uses them for the road build since he avid modeler when touring
Hot legs rod Stewart?
What are your thoughts on acrylic paints?
That came out well. I think you could have used the orange to highlight the parts on the ankle armor, skirt, and shoulders. Where the little marks are to bring them out more but that's just me lol. Also I had a question. I got the MG dark matter exia and i was wondering how would you paint the clear parts. I wanted to change the red to a clear blue or something but is it possible to do it without screwing up the clearness? Might be a dumb question but I was curious since this is my second gundam ever. Thanks for the videos and tips!
+Mosharn Hey! Sadly it's nearly impossible to change the color of those clear parts without ruining the "clearness" of them. You would have to recast the part in clear resin then paint it clear blue. Something like that.
oh alright. Thanks for the quick reply!
Did you leave the primer as the main color for the kit or did you paint over the primer than again with accents? Also did you hand paint this kit because its really smooth with you should breakdown how you did the panel lines on top of the paint. Regardless of my nit picking awesome job.
+Proto Gamer That's a different color, not just the primer. The kit is mostly painted with spray can, then the small details hand painted with enamel paints.
I haven't tried enamels are they smoother when hand painting than acrylics? Also thanks for answering my question.
I just started on the hobby and i wasnt really ready to invest a lot so this really helped, thanks!!
+Tristan Alvarez Glad to help! Be sure to check out JustiniusBuilds and GundamUK as they are doing the project as well!
Great job. how do you paint it? did you paint it by hand?
+Roberto Austria Spray cans and hand painted enamel details
+ZakuAurelius thanks.
Oh my God that looks good. You sir are a master.
You're an artist!
the color look really good, you airbrush the parts?
rockdw no, as explained in the other parts of the series~ I painted the main colors with spray can.
this series has helped me out a lot as a beginner. thanks.
You're welcome! Planning another similar series soon!
If I just want to do some little paint touchups like paint thrusters, vulcans, parts that requires sticker to make it kind of anime accurate, is it worth it to cement the parts/eliminate seam lines/use putty?
+Marcelo Leiva In that case you don't need to use putty, and probably wouldn't want to because the putty color wouldn't match. Unless you use white putty on a white part.
+ZakuAurelius so no putty, unless it's white putty. And also there's no need to cement?
Great Build! If you took a picture of this with a plain background, I would've thought it was a MG...
I have a question... Do you build the Kit first then disassemble to paint? or Paint first then disassemble?
Build, disassemble, paint
Holy cow that color scheme!
Love the colour scheme.
+Raffaele Passarelli Thank you~
I watched a video last time saying that Pledge floor polish worked the same way as primer and worked just as well... wanted your opinion on it cuz I never actually got to finish the video
never heard of it working for primer. I've heard of people using floor polish for topcoat, but I've never tried it.
HI. Nice video. But what's the tamiya tape for again?
+Alex Liew I did some masking when spraying the can spray paint.
ohh. Sorry, a newb here, mind summarizing what this masking process does?
+Alex Liew After you spray one color, then want to paint an area of that part a different color, you need to use making tape to cover the areas where you don't want paint to go.
+ZakuAurelius Ohhhhh. alright! Thanks for the tips :)
HI i have some question ...
1. Can I use Gundam Marker to paint gunpla ?
2. When I use Gundam marker, Do i need to prime it with white marker before I use other color ?
I wouldn't recommend using Gundam Markers for painting anything (only for panel lining).
hmmm....So I need to buy proper paint color to paint right ?
and Can I use other paint to replace Mr Color or Tamiya Color ?
I can use any paint right as long as it Acrylic ?
thanks for the video. been trying to find a good green color scheme for my MG zaku 2 and i didnt expect to find it from a kyrios build, lol. can you share what types of color green did you use on this kit?
+Cyril Torres I didn't use any green :/
+ZakuAurelius whut? but... but.. but that kinda looks like army green color... anyway can you give me suggestions for it anyway? i want my mg to look army ish color and im still new to tamiya colors because until now i used spray cans for painting. :/
I really like the overall outcome of it! it just looks great
+cha0duelist Thanks~
Did you brush the paint on or use airbrushing?
spray can.
Do you sand the parts before applying primer? If you don't, does the primer stay on firmly?
You should sand as much as you can, it helps.
ZakuAurelius Thanks!
i want to see how you detailed with brush on the purple parts... that's look so perfect...
looks solid
+TheWallPhone Thanks!
this is turning out wicked, awesome skills to make it from what it was to this.
+dorikinadj Thanks!
So zaku I just bought my first kit epyon MG and it took me 12 hours to build.
I was thinking if I can paint it and I don't have a air brush just tamiya can paints is that okay?
So i need to color the whole kit itself with primer and then color it with via hand paint maroon, yellow etc. thinking of buying cheap paints in one of the office ware shops here in our place what do you think?
Jiean Baduria Tamiya spray cans will work fine, just make sure to use primer first~ and if you haven't used spray cans before, practice on something else first.
ZakuAurelius what primer should I use maroon as well since epyon is color maroob
Just grey or white primer.
indeed a great color scheme always like it. A bit of suggestion if you can include a time lapse on the painting stage it's might be cool :D
+Budi kurniawan I will in the future.
Were these hand painted or spray painted?
The main colors are sprayed, the small details are hand painted.
thanks
Wow ELS Kyrios Nice Job ZakuAurelis
thx so much your turial is better than the other guy or your friend .Because of u i accully am b oppsesss with gundam .one more thing is were can u buy the markers bside online
Zakuaurelius what is a good enamel thinner substitute?
Tbh the gundam with just prime looks pretty cool
That is a really nice color scheme. Who would have thought a kit could turn out so good for so less. Makes me think we sometimes go overboard when there is no budget to consider. How nice you are planning to give that model to a lucky winner. I hope it will go to someone who this series is aimed at. To be a bit more sure, I won't be commenting on the last episode in this series.
Great episode, looking forward to the next one
+Tim Lemmens Thanks! And I understand the kit design isn't for everyone! Good on you for thinking of others!
Do you hand paint after the gundam is assembled?
I'll be grabbing a hi-mock in order to learn to paint. Can you do a video on air brushing? I thought it'd be simple, but there's so much and I see so much cheap crap I'm kind of at a loss.
I might do that soonish~
Will citadel paints work on gunpla kits?
for sure!
ZakuAurelius thank you so much. What about citadel primer? Or is there another primer you recommend?
that actually looks nice
+Nuclear MC Thanks!
where do you buy most of your supplies in Korea?
+silvermavrik Usually online from Hobby Factory
hey man, can you advice some sites or places where i can find some robot kits apart of bandais in Seoul? i know the gundam station in Yongsan, but i am trying to find some mechanicore/g-systems/armored core/ frame arms maybe?
Armored Core and Frame Arms you can find at most hobby shops in Seoul. G-systems and Mechanicore you're best bet is online.
+ZakuAurelius thank you!
How do you paint the small areas?
are you using enamel paint or acrylic ?
base coat is lacquer spray can, details are enamel
So how did you apply the paint? with an airbrush?
He clearly shows Tamiya liquid enamel bottles, so I'll assume it was an airbrush
Of course we could know for sure if he actually showed the fucking painting
Yeah, in the first part of the series I went over all the supplies I'd use for the project.
I kinda made this with the assumption people had seen (or could refer back to) my previous "Gunpla Building" series.
Well I'm doing "Gunpla building for people living under a bridge" and if you don't have an airbrush or compressor you can buy cheap Walmart squared brushes (they come in a bag and are blue and you get an assortment for around 5$)
For paint, Tamiya Minis acrylic (around 2.50$ each) and a galon of 90% alcohol as a thinner (Like 2$) and if you thin the paint really well the brush works nicely without brush marks. I try to avoid painting the white areas tough
whats better, enamel or acrylic for gundam kits
Both have their uses and their users. I personally rarely use acrylics but that doesn't mean they aren't good.
somewhere around 7:21 the kyrios looks like those prototypes they show you of the model before its released :3
+Cowdude Shquishy Lock Stratos Yeah, just cause it's all grey, right!
it would be cool to mess with friends lol
From where did you get your alligator clips?
Am I too late to win the kit?
Great video love how it turned out hope this will inspire new people into the Hobby And to let know you don't have to go overboard to enjoy Gunpla building also good training with a cheap kit like that i anyone wants to venture out into the more exp kits awesome work as always 👍
+Sol Boricua (gunplabuilder81) That's right!
is there any particular reason why you used enamels?
+gonefishingstudios It's just always worked for what I use them for, that's all~
+ZakuAurelius Did you also put gloss top coat before panel lining the kit? I tried it without gloss coat and it got messy on mine :(
what kind of method did you use for panel lining?
+Jin Wu I didn't topcoat first. Just used the Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color.
Hey, Is this International? or is it Local?
What did u use for primer?
Without actual painting its just showing your stuff, Like MTV Cribs Glupla edition. There is a huge difference in prices in the US and in Asia. you paid $2 for the paint, We pay $5.50-$6 for Tamiya. Anything Tamiya we pay 2.5X or more for it.
As indonesian i agree, and there is a crazy guy sell normal hguc about1.000 bucks lmao
Is this International?
I learned nothing. Needed to see how everything was done.
Sorry to hear that! I made this on the assumption people would watch the previous series "Gunpla Building" to get an idea of the techniques I use. Then no need to explain them again in this series.
+ZakuAurelius I didn't know there was another series. I just searched "how to paint gunpla" and this was the first video and I do subscribe to the channel so I watched it. I've built a lot of gunpla growing up but I never was skilled enough to paint them or I didn't have the knowledge of how to. I'm just now considering getting back into things. And don't worry your channel is great overall, i was attempting to be constructive.
Yeah, I understand! Check out my other series. I'd also recommend checking out some tutorials on Henry's channel (vegeta8259), as well as a bunch of other channels that have good painting tutorials: Ghost of Zeon, JustiniusBuilds, Steezy, and loads of others.
+ZakuAurelius will do! Thank you!
Do you live in Korea?? Been wondering
yeah
Zak, were you aiming for a Denial Gundam look? That was the first thing I thought about when I saw your FB posts and this vid. lol
Kinda fitting that Allelujah's seiyu is the same guy whou voiced Inose Junya. haha Great work btw!
+Joseph Carlo Villaruel Haha, no I didn't think about that! But I could see that.
this looks alot like the deactivated versions of the mobile suits from Gundam SEED.
+Jango The Blue Fox I thought about that as well ^^
ZakuAurelius
I know lots of people love the deactivated version but I've always liked the traditional brightly colored mobile suits.
what's the difference between a regular grade and a Master Grade
Well, there is no "regular grade"
i think what you meant is RG and MG right? if it is then RG stands for "REAL" grade not "regular" grade. im no expert nor pro but the way i see it is that HG(High grade) is the most basic, mostly 1/144 in scale and is the cheapest.
the MG( Master grade) is bigger(1/100) than HG and is more detailed and is used with skeleton where you will put the armors.
PG( Perfect Grade ) is 1/60 in scale and has many detailed parts and others include LEDs.
Now RG (Real grade) is all of the grades combined. Real Grade is only 1/144 in scale (HG), uses skeleton system (MG), and has many detailed parts (PG).
what is different if using primer and not
Primer helps the paint to stick to the kit and gives you a solid color tone base for your paint.
Nice ELS Kyrios.
how did u prime it airbrushin r spray paint can
spray can
"Gunpla building for cheap".
Well, first, you get an Advanced Grade gunpla... :v
Nice
I can't even get alligator clips from my local hardware stores.
Wow, really an intresting paint job I would love to win that kit
+wilbert wilbert Enter in the next part!
nice it helps im going to try it coz im going to join a competion on gundam hehe it help thanks
I think the idea behind this video is great, and I watched your other tutorials so I know there is no need to show the same steps over and over again but it's just a bit less appealing as a whole when all I see is a finished resault, especially when a good chunk of viewers haven't seen your other vids. i'd recommend trying to atleast show some parts of the actual proccess, maybe some sped up parts and some pictures of the proccess here and there (well, more than u already have shown). a good video nontheless, keep it up :)
not sure why I just criticized on a 3 year old video, but oh well
Lol you’d be amazed at how often that people do that! But thanks for the advice! This is a series I’m planning to do a redux, just need to find the time!
ZakuAurelius i'd be more than happy to see that 😊 i got completely hook to gunpla after my trip to japan and i just love everything about it :D
I wish i had access to such tools and kits as easily as you!!
Now Kyrios looks like some Earth Sphere Federation MS. =P
It would be awesome if he painted one up in the standard blue red white scheme like in seed when the MS is activated.
Great work! I love the color scheme you choose, the purple really is a nice play on colors VS the original orange, on the greenish grey you did, looks really good.
I saw a video from somoene in Korea that has realy nice decals i cant find here in the USA or online. Asian caracters and cool designs. Can i share the video and ask if you can find and send mail by order to me in America?
U dont mention to buy tweezer
I think I only used the tweezers for removing tape, right? That's not really a necessary tool, and most people probably have some tweezers in their house anyway.
Smashing work old chap :)
+GundamUK Thanks!
@zakuaurelius Hey man, I'm a subscriber looking for tips and suggestions, and is hoping that you can help answer my questions.
I started collecting gundam at the beginning of this year, and is considering on taking it up a notch and learn how to paint my kits to make them more eye catching. I want to know what type of paints, primer, topcoat to use if I am can spraying if the kits. I have no access to an air brush, I just don't have the space for it as of yet. Also, I want to know what paint, primer, topcoat to use if I was hand painting it.
Wow a 100$ budget in Korea is like a 20$ budget in the west seeing as how all those tamiya tools and paint are like double sometimes triple the price here 😪
It feels like the denial gundam
Delta Plus is that you?
Dark Kyrios sounds cheesy man LOL. Fortunately, you dislike naming kits :)
I did give it a name though, but not something as cheesy as that!
Aww Yeee.
I think it's the right call to use name brands instead of cheapo ones from DIY stores. First of all, named ones are tested, so it'll work. Second, getting the wrong paint will ruin your kit, making you to start from scratch again.
Can it still transform?
+Red7 No no transforming for a First Grade kit.
I thought it does. My bad.
I wanted to know how much the paint affected the articulation/joints?
+Red7 Not too much. The primer stiffened them a bit, but everything is still able to move.
Good to know.
Thank you
Nice looks like a Mastergrade but unpainted:D
Its not really cheap though, you need at least spend $50 to paint one kit.
+bunnyfreakz I went over all the prices in the first part. The paint and paint supplies did take up a large portion of the $100
Try to paint a gunpla with nail polish!
I will! Planning on doing that in a redux of this series!
Anybody else see the denial gundam in this kit?
+Theoreviews it does have very similar colors.
100$ how about 10$
Asebele Keto impossible
Can I have this Gundam ?
Considering he spent his time and money on it no. Usually if you want to buy it it doesnt work out so well on youtube either. Im guessing its a negative
Yup XD
Arios...
4:26
Dat armpit hair doe...
+SuperSmashBros. Pro Hahahahaha whoops! It was hot! I was in a tanktop
gj wp :D
+Cira Ecchi ty ;)
"Low visibility camo"
+sum sum I like it!
You forgot to include a mask in your budget! If you are spray painting you really should wear a mask.
Oops. My phone messed up and it commented a bunch of times. My bad. :/
Dude I love your videos but if your trying to show someone how to do something you need to try to talk less
You really talk too much
Donte Wrenn I like the commentary, helps keep it for? Being boring.
Yeah, he does tend to... Expatiate...
