Just rewatched your backhand serve tutorial. Such a big difference on how you did videos then and now. But no matter how big of a change, the explanation and how easy it is to digest never changed. Thank you for always sharing! Love you, guys!!!
I don't know what's the matter with me. Coach said my serving position is not right. I am trying to get us but couldn't. He said racket shouldn't be close to our body. Iam failing again and again.
I feel that low backhand serves are played too often at the amateur level. It gives the opponent too many options for the return if the server is not moving like a pro.
But low backhand serves can force the opponent into a defensive position immediately - a good low serve will tend to force a lift. If the server isn't moving well, any serve will put them at a disadvantage.
Can you please make a video on singles service positioning.Where to stand, where to serve and what to expect etc. please. Not a single video is made on this topic so far on youtube. Thanks
I have no idea how, but everytime I'm struggling with something, you always manage to upload a video about it the very next day. Yesterday, I was struggling with my backcourt movements and forehand serve particularly. Thank you for this video, it's so helpful!
I almost never use the forehand low serve, it feels so awkward after doing the backhand for so long. I never thought about changing the angle of the shuttle for the serve. Great informative video on how to do all the variations, fault Jenny and the clip at the end showing the effectiveness were my favorite 😃
It took me ages to graduate to a backhand serve but it was really worth it. I find the key to consistency is to move as few things as possible and the backhand serve done properly is basically only wrist movement. Forehand serves involve a lot more movement of body parts so is harder to make consistent. A lot of players in my club play backhand for low serves and forehand for high serves so they are very predictable!
Hi badminton insight i found your videos in perfect time i have a tournament tomorrow hope this will help thank you for your amazing videos and techniques😊😊 and please make a video of showing how to react when your opponent smashes to the side even though it's half court.
can you do a video like what is the best grip towel grip or other more and which one is better for playing badminton and how to not scratch your own badminton while playing badminton in streets :DDDDDD
Can you please make a video on returning smashes? I retrun most of them but get killed the next instant😂! Btw love the content and may you grow even more
I am always trying to improve on my high forehand serve. It's always so short. I will definitely use the tips given here. I can also never serve high to the side of the court across my body. I always hit it out the side or way too short. Any tips? I find it quite funny since I only play recreationally and am very new, but sometimes I wonder if something is wrong with me. I love your videos. Thank you so much for them. I have learned a lot from watching them.
One important aspect on the high serve, serving to the middle of the court narrows the return angles where serving to the sidelines opens them leaving you more exposed.
hello, at our club we use this really weird drive serve. it actually works in u15 for some reason. it is just a backhand drive but on the forehand side. it is kind of like the sneaky serve but against young people its very good. this is especially good on the right side of service
If you wouldn't serve in a certain way to the best player in your club then you shouldn't serve that way to the weakest. You are practicing a serve that will not work in your toughest matches. Why would you do that if you want to improve?
I'm still struglling with my forehand serve 😅Useful advices, thx a lot. It was a heart breaking to see you loose against the french pair even if I'm a froggie !
Thanks for the support. Can you please make a video on how to use the backhand serve in singles affectively? I can serve backhand easily however am unable to recover in time.
Thanks for the video ! I think i got the most of the steps correct but still struggle to hit a really high serve. At amateur level a really high and deep serve gives a HUGE advantage to the server. Any tips to help us improve the height of our serves?
In juniors, I used my forehand to serve low & high for singles & doubles. I was really good at it! In doubles recreational play, it annoyed my partners & opponents so much they tried to tell me I am not allowed to serve with my forehand. Their reasoning is because everyone serves backhand in doubles. 🤦♂ On separate points, I will either serve low or high with either my backhand or forehand. My opponent will see I am serving by forehand or backhand but would have to predict when I would do a low serve or a high serve. They tried to tell me this is illegal as I must serve backhand for the entire match as this is the way everyone serves in doubles. "I'm not everyone. I spent hours practicing serving. Do you?" I think they were more annoyed with the consistency of serving right on the line.
This will help me out for my upcoming tournament in Ipswich. I have been working hard to strengthen my high serve! Cheers guys. (I never use the Low Serve as it has a very (LOW) Success rate! I just found out that my coach watches your videos and she told me that she actually gets her coaching tips from you! 😂😂😂😂
@@deltasrage97yt I get that, my point is that you're paying your coach to teach you what you can get for nothing from Greg and Jenny! Just a flippant observation, really, a personal coach is very useful as they can see what you can't when you're playing. Ever watched a video of yourself? I was shocked when I did that! 🙂
My son and I have been playing for a couple of years and would like to watch a tournament - have searched and can’t find any coming up - can you recommend any (preferably north (ish) UK
Any serve is good for doubles if you do it right! I find the backhand serve to be much easier to make consistently good, so I stick that. Forehand serves can be a bit more erratic due to more body movement involved.
Would you guys be interested in teaching the "soft serve"? I'm a teacher and a kid showed me how to do it - pretty good deceptive serve (thought it might be good for you to add that on seeing as you're teaching forehand serves 😃)
Not sure if it's needed but can you guys speak on the comparsion between the plastic shuttle and feather? Then again there may not be much to say but I just thought I'd put it out there.
If you play with both you'll find it's pretty much a completely different game with plastics - they have a different feel and flight and anyone used to playing with feathers can be made to look like they've never played before when they use plastics! Nothing beats the crisp feel of a straight-from-the-tube feather bird! 🙂
The low backhand serve is kind of an attacking serve which is difficult for the receiver to attack - a high forehand serve can be smashed straightaway. And low forehand serve has a much longer shuttle travel compared to a backhand serve, so gives the opponent more time to react. And I believe a backhand serve is easier to make consistent due to the limited movement of body parts. Of course, I could be wrong!
Ive always practiced and been good at the low serve because I always play doubles, but whenever I get challenged for singles by my friends they use this and I try it it always goes out or the other side😂 perfect timing! But i have no idea why some people in doubles use this serve though, most of the time it goes out.
thank you for all of your tutorials and tips. you guys are awesome! I hope you can notice me and I also hope that you can shout me out, lol! love you guys!❤
Whilst I agree that the forehand serve is an important stroke why are we asking beginners to master, what is. a very difficult action? The forehand serve requires a swinging racket to contact / hit a dropped shuttlecock - for beginners this a recipe for failure! Yet this is what coaches and teachers demand of total beginners! Grass root badminton coaches and teachers need to be more understanding and get players playing by beginning with the backhand serve which does not require the same degree of difficulty. And yes, once they are enjoying badminton, introduce the forehand serve.
Haha we knew this video wouldn’t get many views as it’s not a “sexy” topic & not everyone wants to use a forehand serve… but we felt it was important to have in our library of videos for those who do want to learn it, regardless of how the video might perform 🙂

Try improving your serve quality so they can’t get on top of the serve to drive it! Or try serving to different places / flicking 🏸

I always thought this was just the basic serve. This was the way I originally learned how to serve.
Back in the day it was the only way to serve! Then someone invented the backhand serve and everything changed.
Should I train plyometric exercises?
Jenny & Greg, can you guys explain why the forehand serve (long or short) is so seldom in Men's singles?
The low backhand serve is kind of an attacking serve which is difficult for the receiver to attack - a high forehand serve can be smashed straightaway. Yes, it’s completely down to your personal preference 😁💪🏼
Are there any cons to this serve?
Compared to a backhand serve there's more body and arm movement involved so can be more difficult to control consistently.
So will you share your opionin why men almost never use this serve in singles?
Because their opponents attack is usually very good
i have a friend whose forehand serve is really high can you do a tutorial on that?
