I listen to Shakti since I was 17, I am a guitarist and the first time I tried to play some of them it was impossible, but everything is practical (although it is almost impossible LOL) . In India the study of music is very different from the West, it is not only practice on the instrument but also reaching a very special state of concentration to reach such mastery. I've been listening to guitar for nearly 60 years now. So many thousands of great and impressive players of the instrument. For me, none have quite equalled the 'impressive' power of John McLaughlin. He frames every line perfectly to devastate the listener.
Regarding the guitar, it was built custom for John McLaughlin to mimic the nature of a sitar, so the extra strings you see crossing over are drone strings that ring out to a chord that is tuned to the specific raga (indian version of a scale). If I may also point out, the guitar also has scalloped (kinda scooped out) frets so it feels even closer to a sitar with the absence of the feeling of the fretboard underneath
I discovered Shakti about 10 years back. For their time they were true pioneers of East-West classical fusion. There are quite few videos of Zakir Hussain in his young age.
To see Vikku Vinayakam as such a young age is something. He is such a old person now that you can imagine him in his youth.
Damn, the Borat comment at 3:44 is spot on😂😂😂 Have watched the original video so many times, but just now noticed ‘Borat’ peeping from behind the curtain between 3:40 and 3:42 after Rick’s comment! Too good😃😃
My journey with this music started out as being intrigued and moved to being excited, ecstatic and then just calm in the middle of the storm of a performance! Maestros at work!! ❤️
React to bhambole song from laxmi bomb its amazing
Even the tv behind Rick and Korbin is displaying space view telling that it's out of this world...
React to their song : The Daffodil and the Eagle!!
holy shit that would be a great one. always a fun one to freak people out with who dont know anything about indian music.
JM was indeed in several bands - multiple incarnations of mahavishnu orchestra for starters. You should check out ‘between nothingness and eternity’ IMO - a truly excellent live recording of the initial electric mahavishnu orchestra.
A great live recording too - lots of other good stuff, great albums with Al dimiola and paco de licia, Saturday night in San Francisco- and on and on
Who else noticed the netflix recommendation page in the back 😊
I guess a year ago, I requested you guys to check out Shakti.. That's a band of all the legends including all of them on this stage.. 🙄
The pot is a Ghatam and "the guy" banging the Ghatam is (I don't remember his real name but he's nicknamed Vikku (is he related to the extremely talented chess prodigy "Arjun Erigaisi"? They're both from Chennai and look a little alike)) called the god of Ghatam.
The freaking "violin player" is freaking Lakhsminarayana freaking Shankar. Yes, a freaking Shankar. A freaking son of the freaking Citar legend Ravi freaking Shankar.
John McLaughlin established and played in legendary Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Before that he played with Miles Davis and perhaps something in between.
Plz react Wajle ki bara song from Natrang
Yes, I had to tell myself to breathe a few times. It's amazing they are having a conversation. Beautiful music and talent.
Kunnakudy vaidyanathan on violin will be another visual audio treat for everybody who love indian traditional music
Why was the Kunnakudy Vaidyanathan and Kadri Gopalnath concert banned?
Too much sax and violins 😂😂😂
Please react to Vennilave Vennilave song by AR Rahman, Prabhu Deva and Kajol! (Prabhu Deva got his first National Award for the dance and AR got his second National Award for the music!) It's one of the most popular 90s songs in Tamil! I'm surprised you guys haven't reacted to that yet!
can anyone tell me does they reviewed bahubali 2 ya only bahubali and if not reviewed bahubali 2 then why because i can find their review on bahubali 2
@@souvikdey545 They did not like Baahubali 1. Hence did not watch 2. You will find them making jokes on watching Baahubali 2 in many videos.
Four persons in very simple dress T shirt/simple kurta etc and doing extraordinary artistry. Just pure art. This is what attracts art lovers not big stages lighting and Shining clothes., 😇
Guys. You mention at the end About what band McLaughlin was in. Check out the initial lineup of the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Absolutely tremendous. Drummer - Billy Cobham is the best you’ll ever see. Check out the live show in France in 1972 - One Word about 50 minutes in.
React to the songs "Hamdard" and "Galliyan". Also react to all the songs from "Aashiqui 2" they're iconic!!
Yes , the first song of the movie is best and all other song also
They are awesome!! These guys should listen to them. They are only reacting to either old songs or completely irrelevant ones
They all are phenomenal! there is a wonderful album of L Shankar (violin) prduced by Frank Zappa called "Touch Me There" released in 1979 on Zappa Records, an amazing east west fusion, you can find it here on YT.
Bambholle laxmii reaction
L Shankar ( violinist) is one of the rarest gems. He has given music direction for films like Salaam Bombay collaborated with greats like Peter Gabriel and Frank Zappa.

My Ears are blessed so many LEGENDS at one place!!
Natural Elements was released in the mid-‘70s, not in the ‘80s.
1977, late’70s.
Shakthi❤🔥🔥
I am with you Rick on that "Can't Breathe" comment. I forgot to breathe in between while listening to this. It's so spellbinding.
Thank you, both, for the wonderful content! Love the taste! :-) I remember listening to McLaughlin as part of Shakti, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, as well as The Guitar Trio (Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia and John McLaughlin). Would love to hear your thoughts and see you reactions. Such a wonderful time to be alive :-D (except for the whole pandemic thing, 'course ).
John McLaughlin has been blowing my mind and kicking my butt for almost thirty years now. Welcome to a higher plane. 🙂
