These vintage WK keyboards by Casio are like that quaint little bakery in a semi-dilapidated building in a part of town that everybody likes to avoid. Yet, for all its averageness, that bakery makes the best petite brioche in town, along with the rye bread that's seldom found that good anywhere else. And then you take a nostalgic little black and white picture of that bakery, put it on the new postcard design, and suddenly, the tourists are really liking this part of town, even though they will never 'fess it up publicly ;-)
Bought one of these over 20 years ago. Had so much fun with it. I've still got it and I'm pretty sure it still works, but I haven't played it for years. Feeling nostalgic watching this.
Just came to your most recent video to say your dedicated! I posted a comment yesterday on the Casio CTK1550 secret features which is 2 years old and you hearted it :D
Haha yeah sometimes I think my level of dedication to this channel is bordering on insanity... at the moment it feels like it's going nowhere! So if you have any ideas for spicing up Gearfacts I'm certainly open to suggestions :)
@@gearfacts well, you could always make your videos a bit less serious, like make more jokes in it, I found an affer effects tutorial and it was pretty funny
My cousin used to have this keyboard and I spent years looking for it because of the demos and I wish one time I could hear those demos wave full quality because they’re very good actually and the way you recorded the songs is very good and I like the quality here too.
Ive got one of these in really good shape! In fact, I traded up to a Casio CDP-100 which is as close as my wallet could get to a real piano but the sounds on this WK-1200 when you play it sound amazing. A talented musician could almost recreate the whole history of Synth music with this :-)
This reminds me of a ctk-611 (ctk-601 with backlit LCD) but in 73 keys and a identical but cosmetically redesigned keypad controls. Those models have an enhanced set of synth tones, both leads and pads. Maybe not ZPI good, but for a casio rompler that has the tones you want, the 601, 611, wk-1200 seem like solid choices for those on a budget.
@@gearfacts Thank you for replying, I have the same keyboard but I can't find a good midi cable in the market that has a 5 pin midi in and out to USB. Is there any way I can work around this? Also, considering this keyboard has a lot of features compared to what we usually get from other keyboards at this price range such as General MIDI, 6 octaves, touch response etc wouldn't the price increase?
Casio keyboards rarely hold their value much, so the WK series gives great value for money. For midi to USB, you'll need a special adapter cable, they're only about $10 on ebay or other online sources. Just search for "midi to USB adapter" and you should see a good selection. The off-brand ones are just as good as the premium ones so there's no need to pay extra :)@@phlobotonum3170
I'm already blessed, I'm insanely privileged over most other humans, it really isn't fair. That's why I review all the old gear. It's within reach of people who have less and it doesn't wreck our environment like buying new gear does.
@@gearfacts Here's a little trivia that might help you and many other people out more: 73 keys go from C1 to C7, and 76 keys go from E1 to G7. 73 keys are like 61 keys with an extra octave and 76 keys are kinda like 88 keys as if they're backwards.
Well, it looks super-dated but the sounds are pretty good. And of course with anything "WK" you get the extra octave on the keyboard - too big for me personally but some people love it. In the end, the price to quality ratio is good.

A perfect analogy :)

I just reviewed a WK3000 and it reminded me that all the WK series are good to great keyboards :)
There are some really great sine synths on my WK-200. Figuring out which context to use them in is going to be interesting and fun.
Yes, I think the sines and squares are a real highlight of this board, especially when combined with the synth parameters.
I used to own this keyboard and used it into the ground. Love the sound library and easy of use. Very fun to play with. Would own again.
Yeah it's a really fun one.

Funny enough, even Casio's special anniversary website lists this keyboard as 76 keys....but it is, in fact, 73.
