So you had the battery still hooked up the whole drive home? Was the Rec and TX turned on also? If so, the throttle on the Tx could have been engaging after you hit a bump perhaps.....????
With the motor as the battery was plugged in i suspect the speedo wasnt in neutral and due to the car being packed away the wheels blocked so the motor was running current while not moving. The M-06 has extra soft rear tires, maybe a MB-1 with softer rear tires has the rear a bit more stable?
Yeah I think the esc got wet, fried, and put power to the motor while it was in the trunk. My bad! Haha! The one time I forget to disconnect my battery... 🤦
You mentioned using shims to take up some of the slop. Is there a kit of different size shims you can link to? The only ones I have are differential shims for crawlers and they're 5mm ID I think. Thanks for another great review!
I wish I could tell ya. During the speed run challenge, lots of guys were swimming up their TT01/2's, but I don't recall which shims they used. I never bothered shimming, as I was too busy keeping up with the organizing of the event, lol! Try searching TT02 shim and see what comes up. The MB01 uses the same suspension balls, so the shims should fit the same. 👊🏼
The slop's not nice. Even if it's on the rear axle. Since youtube everyone's complaining about sloppy Tamiya steerings. I hope I'll live long enough to see the first chassis without this con. For the motor. I don't know how long your way home was. But it looks like your battery was still connected to the system. So, if a little bit of current fleed, not strong enough to turn the anchors, it might cause a motor burn. If you had disconnected the battery, the hot urns might melt the isolation colour and cause a fire.
Maybe a faulty motor? I wondered if the slop came from the configurability aspect. But nice to see it tightened up after the fire/trans swap. FWD for the win! Great vid. cheers
Yeah the motor must've been bad. Not sure how, these Mabuchi's are usually bulletproof. Ah well, the Alfa is a little stinky, but running great in the FWD configuration. 👌👊🏼
I don't know, maybe you should use this kit for a speed run challenge. It would be interesting to see competitors trying the different layouts and seeing who gets what to work the best.
New to the channel so I am not sure if you ever found out what happened. This has happened to me on an M chassis but I think that was just coincidence. Since then I have learned that you should never leave a lipo plugged in and in the car when it is not running. This was not a lipo fire but I am wondering if leaving it plugged in shorted the motor or something. If there was an issue with the esc it could have easily still been feeding power to the system. Just a thought because I think that is what happened to me.

Did not know BBQ season started that early in Canada 😢😁 Yeah, in wet weather like this, best to unplug everything once done. You never know what can happen 😢 It could have been worse than a 540 motor. Take care 👍🤝
Yeah I suppose between all the cameras, phones, etc. I forgot all about unplugging the battery in the car. 🤦 Ah well, at least it didn't burn down the Camry. 😆👊🏼
In the Tamiya-Cups all over the world we drive all M-Chassis in the FWD configuration. Why? You can control the stable in the curves with the throttle. The preference chassis are M-05 Ver.II and the M-07 Concept. Now you must have a FWD Body likes Mazda 2 or Alfa Romeo Mito.
You call it slop, i call it active geomatry 👍 could of been water that caused the motor issue ? Or just a duff motor 🤔 moving the motor higher should give more grip as it will make the car lean more. Its one thing i dont understand but it worked on my cougar, slippery track and when i had the go pro on the top, it had more grip 🤔😂
I think you're right. My theory now is that water got into the esc and since I forgot to unplug it when I loaded it up in the trunk, the esc went wacky, gave power to the motor, the car probably moved forward and hit the corner of the trunk, it couldn't go anywhere and the motor went up in flames. 😳
All my 2S packs are minimum 5000 mah, and I've never really had an issue. I think this one caught fire because I forgot to unplug the battery, water got into the esc, shorted it, gave power to the motor, and 🔥
Yeah, definitely looks more manageble on fwd configuration... But the actual Alfa should be rwd, right? It's a cool gimmick to be able to swap configurations, but comes at a cost, all that slop... Would cost a fortune in alu and carbon bits to tighten it up, might as well buy a regular M-style chassis... @TimBoundy no, just the stock kit tires. And I know they're not the best, but that's the point of testing kits. Seeing what they can do out of the box, then sometimes modifying them for gains. Yeah what a night and day difference! No understeer whatsoever, the thing handled awesome for a bone stock sloppy Tamiya kit. 🤣
Did I beat Paul?!?!?!
By about 20 minutes! I'm sleeping on today. :)
Good job Mark 👍
Hahaha bragging rights go to.... MARK BRYAN!!! 💪💪💪
So you had the battery still hooked up the whole drive home? Was the Rec and TX turned on also? If so, the throttle on the Tx could have been engaging after you hit a bump perhaps.....????
Yeah I definitely forgot to unplug the battery. I think water cooked the esc and sent power to the motor. 😳
Does it have different compound tires for front & rear? Did you have them the right way around?
All 4 tires are the same compound, and I've got them all facing the same way, with the tire lettering on the outside.
Thank you Sir!
This chassis is also the BT-01 just with longer suspension arms and a longer front chassis.
Yeah you said it. Fingers crossed the BT01 is a little less sloppy. 😳
Can you make fwd with the motor in the high position?
No, not according to the manual.
Yeah I think you're right, Dirk. Leaving the battery plugged in was the culprit. 😳
@@poorboysrc fortunately nothing more happend to you (which is most important) or your car.
Ah, so you're liking the idea of the MB01 as a speed run car. Ok, cool. I might have to take a vote soon... 😆
I’ve only burned up 1 silver can and it was when I tried to run my Kyosho beetle on 3s . The Tamiya silver cans do not like 3s
No, they sure don't. I've dabbled with 3S on a silver can, and it's dodgy territory! 😆
@@razindiya yeah, 100% that's what must have happened! Oops! 😂🤦♂️
Dynamic rear camber adjustment:it's a feature, not a glitch!
Hahaha, always putting a positive spin on things. Well played! 👌😆
Good Video, but bad audio on my high-end stereo system. What microphone are you using? I guess it is wireless with low bit-rates.
Bad audio how? Can you explain in greater detail?
Yes, it's a wireless mic, Amazon special, with a high satisfaction rating.
Forgive me for being highly sensitive.
The music on your videos sounds gorgeous.
The audio sounds like a cellular phone connection when you are in the studio.
You can´t hear this if you are using a smartphone to watch.
I like your content !
@@arnfriedschwarz1566 I appreciate the feedback. I'm always looking ti improve the quality of my show, so thank you. I think it's time to experiment with some sound deadening pads in my studio. I believe that's where I get some of the audio issues from.
I'd love to get a nice big mic, but I need something small and mobile for the show.
Cheers! 🍻
Since you’re making the front the back and the back the front, the body needs to go on backwards 😂
Haha it sure does! What a funny little chassis. 😆
Did you see the new Citron body for the mb01 because that car comes with wider front tires than the rear tires like the real car?
Yeah that one is a beauty! It's too nice for me to wreck. 🤣
Ah well, at least it didn't burn down the Camry. 😆👊🏼
Do you use build review 1/14th Tamiya Trucks?
I've never owned a 1/14 Tamiya truck. Perhaps one day. 🤔
I raced M05 back in the day, and it was great! M05's always best the M06's, too!
To be fair it wouldn’t be an Alfa Romeo if it hadn’t broken down 😂
LOL Facts!
Hahahaha!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Active geometry! I love it!!! Haha! I can envision that on the side of the box... 🤣🤣🤣
maybe the only think i could say is water..... or a short.
Gotta be water in the esc... Too bad, I liked that esc... 🤦😂
Maybe water was the culprit?
I think you're right. My theory now is that water got into the esc and since I forgot to unplug it when I loaded it up in the trunk, the esc went wacky, gave power to the motor, the car probably moved forward and hit the corner of the trunk, it couldn't go anywhere and the motor went up in flames. 😳
You should see the 2025 Camry.
I'll give it a Google! 👊🏼
Throwing a large mah lipo in a brushed is kinda sketchy wihout some cooling. Especially with the motor so protected from cooling.
All my 2S packs are minimum 5000 mah, and I've never really had an issue. I think this one caught fire because I forgot to unplug the battery, water got into the esc, shorted it, gave power to the motor, and 🔥
Its a good thing that it was the motor burning and not the lipo. 😲 Or the entire car would of been up in smoke.
Yeah man, I was crapping myself when I stopped and my car started filling with smoke. And you know the smell, that burning motor smell... ugh... 😳
@@poorboysrc No kidding! The only burn smell I like, is the burnt smell on my steak on the grill. 😛
@@rcgeneration824 haha 100%! 😄
I have to admit, I am beginning to be interested in those little M-Tamiya cars, especially it would be fun to try paint one of those old sports car classics!
Ha ha, and the motor died, ha ha!
We raced M05 and M06 back in the day, and it was so much fun! The M05's (FWD) would crush the RWD M06's all day long on the track. 👊🏼
@@poorboysrc Bit of a bummer all the cool body styles are the rwd for M chassis... Let's see what happens this summer... I might deviate from my buggy obsession a bit... I'm also waiting with eagerness for the speedrun challenge, he he...
@@madsrcbuggy yeah the Lotus body is so sweet! And the Nissan 240... ah, I could go on... Speed Run Challenge you say? What speed run challenge??? 🤣🤣👊🏼
I would have left it rear-wheel drive I want to buy another chassis for one that has a front-wheel drive body.
I really wanted to leave it RWD, but the handling was too bad. 😭
@@poorboysrc get better tires make the diff more LSD by using more marine grease in it.
How about a TT01 speed challenge this year? I would of done the fire man Sam and pee'd on it 😂
Hahahaha, imagine the smell of that RC after a fire and a pee? 🤣🤣🤣
@@poorboysrc wouldn't smell good but ya got to do what ya got to do 🤔
@@kanenstuff darn right ya do! 🤣
It got wet thats why the motor is burning... grounded motor
Thanks for the feedback! 🤙
Salut super car suprem video subscribe subscribe ❤🎉😮😊
Thanks for subscribing! 👊🏼🍻
I wouldn’t upgrade this chassis. Buy a M08 concept chassis for the price of a Yeah Racing conversion kit, it will perform better. From experience, however the Yeah Racing conversion kits look pretty.
Yeah Racing kits are gorgeous! I can't justify the price though. I really should try an M08 some time though! 👊🏼
I can't believe that a Tamiya car spontaneously combusted like that! Another thing that proves the direction they are going. RIP Tamiya! 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah that was an unexpected little fire there... And add to that I've had two of their TBLE02S esc's (brand new) go up in smoke when I went to program them... Something's up. 🤷♂️🤦
@@poorboysrcI’ve had two tble 04’s go up too ..
@@craigpimlott204 you too, eh? I was about to make a video on "How easy it is to program a TBLE02" - I had it down to a 2 minute science. Then the thing lit up! 🤣🤣🤣
@@poorboysrc What, seriously! I am trying hard not to care Fil, but remember the feeling that you got in your stomach when you saw, or bought a Tamiya kit when we were kids? I really feel that in the last few years Tamiya is dropping their balls and letting us down.
The kit tyres are garbage and you were running on the wet. No wonder it was spinning out everywhere. That's not really a chassis issue.
Wet, dry, it handles like a bag of rocks, lol. I tried many setups in this video series, on many surfaces. This platform was a major let down.
@@poorboysrc did you try different tyres?
@TimBoundy no, just the stock kit tires. And I know they're not the best, but that's the point of testing kits. Seeing what they can do out of the box, then sometimes modifying them for gains. The slop in both the BT01 and MB01 was so insane that I lost interest in both platforms quickly, and moved on. 👍🏻
@@poorboysrc the slop and performance is comparable to the M05/M06 which this kit replaces. The slop doesn't affect performance too much, but the kit tyres are absolute junk. It's not a great car but with proper tyres (and a couple of upgrades, bearings and oil dampers) I've beaten a fully hopped up M08 on a race track.
@@TimBoundy Wow, that's impressive! Were you in FR/FR config? I found that was the only way I could get it to drive predictably.
I raced M05 back in the day, too. That was the most fun race class I've ever raced. 2200kv on 2S and they were a blast!
