What a beautiful RC car. If it wasn't for the mounting posts, it would honestly look like a model kit! I don't think I've seen a more tunable chassis, especially for this price, out there. FWD, RWD, and the wheelbases. Oh yeah, the motor lay down! You know there's gonna be "hop ups" galore! Thank you for the "to the point" review. It was PERFECT and all that's needed for an RC car review!
I knew this kit was out but I did not realize how much detail it had in the body, thanks for the awesome review and running video. I will order one next week
Finally! a Mb-01 video, been waiting a while for pre-poduction/review samples have hit the youtubers, fantastic review and it seems to drive fantastic. even with the friction shocks. I wasn't too big a fan of the Abarth at first. but it's growing on me and you did a fantastic job of the engine details. ill be picking one up when it hits the stores here in europe.
I was interested in this kit when it was announced but decided I didn't want to wait and bought an M08. After seeing this, I kinda wished I just waited. What a funky and fun looking kit
That little car looks so good, you've done a great job! The chassis is quite unusual, but it's also very interesting, something different, I like it! I've always liked the M chassis' cars, I did race an M07 indoors on carpet last year, and I was up against full size 1/10th touring cars, and I did reasonably well. But the best bit was the M07 was so much fun to drive, sadly I had to sell it a few months ago due to lack of money, I miss that little car....
@@rcdriver you must be about my age then? I started back in 1983 till 89 and back again 2008 till now! Yeah l just celebrated my 50th on the 15th of this month! Still can't get my head around that lol. Cheers James.
Check out the Wrap Up Next drift conversion for the MB-01, add some DS Racing LF-1 drift tires, a Reve D RS-ST drift-servo and a Reve D Revox gyro to it and enjoy your perfect mini drift chassis.
WOW!! The engine detail is a surprise. The telephone pole body posts are an abomination I think along with a bearing set I would also get a magnetic body mount kit, one that could be mounted low and stick out horizontally to the front and sides to keep the C/G as low as possible. With that tub chassis and front bumper there should be plenty of options for mounting the body without the vampire slayer stakes sticking through it. I LOVE FIAT 500series cars. As a child of the 60's I remember these tiny cars. Volkswagens were a thing but these were around just not in the numbers that VW bugs were. I used to have to rent cars quite often and I was on the Enterprise concierge program. When Enterprise started offering the new Fiat 500 I was really wanting to rent one. They didn't want to rent one to me!! Finally my usual Enterprise told me that from my rental history and their impression of the Fiats, the agents behind the counters hated them, they didn't want to go through me bringing it back unhappy. So I explained I remembered the original rear engine 500s from the 60's and had always wanted to drive one. These rental agents had never heard of the old ones, didn't know about them and thought I was nuts. I showed them a picture on my phone of one I found on the web. They looked at the picture, looked at each other and looked at me like I wasn't right in the head. I kept that Fiat for five weeks. Named it Giseppie, could do a complete circle in the width of my driveway. Took the sliding glass door apart and wheeled Giseppie into the living room (previous owner brought Harleys in like that) put the door back in and went down the street to hide in neighbors garage and have beers and wait for a young lady friend of mine to show up to use the washer/dryer. My phone rings, epic howler of an afternoon 🤣 Pulled up at work, right in front of the big windows co-workers start snickering I have these big plastic clown shoes you get at Party City...... Mr Earl had to be helped up, fell over in his office chair. If the financing hadn't go through with the terms I wanted on my pickup, I showed up at the loan institution in that Fiat pointed out the window ranted about how I was in love with it and would just buy that instead with cash from Enterprise and not pursue buying a new pickup. Got my loan and my rate. Got my truck the following week. So it's a Tamiya model car to you, to my this model is an Icon of my youth and a reminder of one of the best times I had co-exsisting with a car. So yeah the Tamiya Fiat is a gimme. And all three of those stories I swear are true, good times!
I really want this kit.... and would love to see this chassis come out with lots of other bodies.... i want to build one with a Datsun sedan body... but a Beetle is a pretty obvious one as they make that shell already. Nice to see this, i think I may pass on the M06 now with this kit out... i like the M05 we have and want some more minis.
Greg another awesome video thank you. Have you given any thought to upgrading to oil dampers and more power? I’m sure it will kick it up a notch lol. I gotta get one. Tamiya is we’re it started for me all the kits are so unique to drive so much fun.
This one is a keep it simple and fun car for me. Oil shocks is a nice option, but there’s something to the quirkiness of a stock Tamiya thats just super fun.
@@dj4monie what i men is they dident had like 700hp and 1000mn of torque so to be fair it where a small engine compared to todays engines it where not so much HP but the cars were light and nimble instead. 100mph most tuned car of that era would be posible to reach that speed.
Man, it’s been a long time since I wheeled a 5. I don’t think I could give a fair comparison. I was however expecting a just decent run with this, but left very impressed.
I dont like the rear end having these adjustable toe in, it has way to much play added. Otherwise glad you got one to show it off, your paintjob looks phantastic i guess you need to buy a second body to drive it now. I suspect the complicated drive system and the rear suspension make it perform worse than the m.07 and m.08, so its nothing i would buy but fun idea nevertheless.
If Tamiya and a german automotive company did a collab, this is how it'd be lol. Good, but overengineered. Kind of weird to be seeing this still. Not entirely sure how to feel when compared to the rest of the M chassis line up.
Yeah I know. I think because they have so many bodies available with the holes already that can be used on so many chassis’s that they’re kinda forced to keep doing it.

I love the body so much! And swapping FF and Rear wheel drive idea is very interesting.

Another helpful and entertaining video. Love the track action...quite impressive for a entry level M-chassis car. And the body came out really good!
That is a beautiful build- WOW that is such a nice color combo to look at!!
Right! That Corsa Gray is pretty sweet!
That would make an interesting stock class. Especially with all these viable setup options out of the box 😮
Those body posts really seem like they could be a good place for a magnetic attachment mod.
My first thought exactly.
Terrific review once again RCDriver! You answered all my questions! Cheers!
Awesome, so happy to hear I was able to get you the info needed.
This kit should be fun with many possibilities.

Good video! Looks good. Flat slaps?
i do like that the car is not overly powered and fast that the mild speed gives more scale feel to the car as those abarths where not speed monsters.
Define speed monster they were capable of over 100 mph.

is that 48P gears??
Great video as always !
fortunate tamiya could maintain the fiat license! hope they can for mini also!
I am sure the Fiat license also for the Ferrari as well. They still make the various BMW's but not the current cars.
Wow, that is really beautiful.
Can we make this RC 4wd in fact?
Hi. Great video. I'm gonna put put my black tamiya honda s800 on mine when it turns up. I have 2 coming. Gonna put bmw 2002 shell on the other one. 👍
The handling looks awesomes, how does it compete with the m05?
Man, it’s been a long time since I wheeled a 5. I don’t think I could give a fair comparison. I was however expecting a just decent run with this, but left very impressed.
Is the body drilled or could you use magnets?
The holes are not pre-drilled. You can adapt a magnet system.
@@rcdriver that’s great!!! I was beginning to think Tamiya was predrilling everything now which was disappointing.
Lovely kit! Just very disappointed that Tamiya couldn’t include oil shocks and bearing for the price - how very tight in all honesty 😢😢
It's an entry kit, that's standard for Tamiya. If you want bearings and oil shocks (and more), you need to get a midrange kit - M-07/8
I am waiting for a Beetle, as I already have an M02, M04 and M06.
My new dream rc car
Hi rc drive, tell me all paints this kit have PS and TS please to order all together
Hi! The paint list is in the video description.
Thanks
nice review! how well does it run as FWD though? 👍🍺🇬🇧
Does it come with oil filled dampers?
Friction.
Boom 🎉 nice little car
It is. It was a fun build, but the drive was awesome as well!
@@rcdriver looked good on the track
Nice car RC !
That should make a EG Civic hatchback on that chassis.
You can always buy the EG Civic body from RCMart.
They look like torque tubs.
I think they used this car a bit in TF: Age of Extinction
You can call it Corsa grey but it's clearly blue.
Bro I want xmaxx but I don't have money
