Real food born if necessity. Some migrants to the cane fields in Australia had to bake their own bread and the rest came from the garden. Sometimes my mum would add capsicum,eggplant or egg. Sometimes all of those. It was for breakfast or the evening meal. Seventy years later I still love it.
I'd like to see them try to come for Pasquale's gas stove!

Chef P, my grandparents we're from Foggia, Italy. Their last name was D'antini, but it got changed at Ellis Island to Dandino because the workers just wrote down what they thought they heard this, Lenny Italian names were lost. My Grandma Rose, made many dishes, but never this one. It's excellent !!!

Chef Pasquale, I looked up Rita Pavone and saw a 1965 video of her singing "Viva la Pappa col Pomodoro". She has so much energy to sing and dance! I will have to try this recipe the next time I have dry French bread (maybe I'll buy some bread and let it dry out for 2-3 days). I am thinking this recipe would also taste good substituting cubed potato and putting the potato in to cook along with the tomato, but with less chicken broth since the potatoes will not absorb very much liquid. It would be a totally different dish, but probably still very good.
That looks like good comfort food. I plan to try it. I watched the video of Rita Pavone. She’s adorable. She reminds me of Piccalo Pupa. Another cutie.😊

Nonno Pasquale, yesterday evening I made your pappa al pomodoro recipe for dinner. We do not eat meat or cheese so I made substitutes, but the rest was the same. It was wonderful, wholesome and so delicious! I would have never tried it if not for you and your enthusiasm. The dance was convincing too. Grazie millie!
This reminds me of my Grandmother's stewed tomato side dish made with stale bread- just delicious! It's a good old fashioned meal stretcher.

It’s so delicious I’m not needed today because it’s raining here and down in Florida. And my friends came over and they absolutely loved it well your recipes remind me of how my grandparents cooked all the time. My Nana could not speak English at all well she spoke with the time and she cooked I’m telling you every recipe you make reminds me of her.
