The first live music concert of my life was the Animals in Mobile, Alabama around 1965 in a monsoon! Not a bad start to a Life Filled with Music ~~~I'll never forget my sweet, brave Mother driving me through flooded streets in the low area of Downtown Mobile, while we got 10 inches of rain. The show, which was sold out was only 1/2 full because of the weather, but the Animals lived up to their RRHOF reputation. Eric Burdon was Magnifico!

Da Nang 1971 , Thanks to all my brothers and sisters who did time in country, and to all now who are serving or who have served, thank you for keeping and protecting our freedom. As Bob Dylan said "The times they are a changin" but unfortunately not for the better. Eric Burdon's voice is fantastic, its captivating , The Zombies where another band that where right there with the Animals. Time is not on my side, but I've lived a good life, raised a great family to love this country and reading alot of these comments makes my heart feel good to know there is still people who love this country. I was in SE Asia in the 60s, but not in Vietnam. "We Gotta Get Outa This Place" was called the unofficial anthem of The Nam for the American GIs.
I also enjoyed "Sky Pilot". I think the name goes back to World War 2 and refers to the Padres who offered comfort for the poor fucks who had to go out and kill or be killed. As an Air Force guy, knowing my kind were dying in SE Asia, it was pretty intense.

In the early 60s the TV was even more conservative than it is today. The producers always told the R&R stars to tone it down to a white homogenized frequency. Lol lol. You will note that all the wild stars would give a conservative performance. Look at the Beatles, Stones , Yardbirds, the were all so well groomed that every single hair was in place lol. This performance by the Animals is actually wild for the TV fashion of those days.

The first time I heard this on the radio back in 1965, I was blown away. Burdon's raw voice was singing the feelings in my soul. I was about 18 and had left a violent home life and facing the great unknown. It was good to know someone was feeling similar things and could paint the pictures the way I saw them. The Animals were the heroes of the downtrodden.

what a great song...love the guitar....back then it was all talent, no lip synchronizing or computerized sounds.....this group sang so many great songs. Gotta love the dancing moves on the music video of the crowd.

Add to that list Dave Rowberry (July 4, 1940 - June 6, 2003), aged 62. Not a founder-member, but replaced Alan Price on keyboards from 1965 and featured on several of their best-known hits.. That's him playing in this clip.

I sang that song in my head over and over in Basic Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. The song totally motivated me through at time with some sanity & determination not to waste and destroy myself like my dad had to in order to survive. I still love and think of that song and band fondly. Thank you for the video. -Just awesome!

Was 14 when the song was released and I was blown away by Burdon's powerful and raspy voice. Loved 'em ever since and the nostalgia from hearing their songs is brilliant and takes me back to my raucous teenage years. Sing it again Eric...
