I think the weapon that benefits Soldier the most with random crits are the Air Strike and the Beggar’s Bazooka since they can fire multiple rockets at once and in turn, increasing the crit chance significantly.
actually, since crit chance increases with damage, those 2 do horrible with random crits those first 5 rockets have a low crit chance because they haven't hit anything yet (your next barrage has a higher chance but it reset's after a crit with that) the normal rocket launcher can increase EACH shot's crit, getting an increase in chance for the second rocket if the first hit and even greater if the second also hits the 2 you mentioned must wait for the whole barrage to hit before increasing said chance by just a bit
There is something you forgot about Soldier involving Random Crits, and that is Random Crits is based on how much damage you have done recently. Soldier, as one of the highest damage output's in the game, is able to get more Random Crits, due to having high damage output in general. And, hitting with a Random Crit also keeps your damage output high, meaning that you are more likely to keep getting Random Crits. It also means that if a Soldier is doing well, then they are more likely to get that Random Crit than a Soldier not doing so well. Also, keep in mind that Random Crit build-up is based on damage dealt in the last 20 seconds, meaning that, due to respawn timers not ever being over 20 seconds, that the high damage classes, like the Soldier, can get a Random Crit out of spawn, since he was likely in the battle when he died, and he still has a higher than base Crit chance when leaving Spawn.
For when the one on pyro gets released, I would like to mention that pyro can benefit from crits *indirectly* by airblasting crit pipes or rockets. I can say I've definitely gotten alot of kills that way.
@Daniel von Strangle i know im exactly 9 months late but, if you airblast a crit boosted pipe/rocket it is reflected AS a crit. not a minicrit, thats only for rockets without crit boosts
I loved this video, but I think there were two things you could have added to the vid: 1) Soldier's don't take extra damage from their own crits, so a crit rocketjump won't just delete the soldier unless he's actually at such low health it'd kill him anyway. Pyro does *not* benefit from this, and will self-destruct if he/she accidentally tries to reflect jump a crocket, or happens to reflect a crit-demopill that lands too close. 2) Given how easily and consistently a soldier can output raw damage, he essentially just always has better odds of crits since crit chance increases based on damage dealt in the past 20 or so seconds.
A video series just talking about the pros and cons a class has with random crits INSTEAD OF TELLING PEOPLE HOW THEY SHOULD THINK ABOUT A GAME MECHANIC? WHAT TALK OF MADNESS IS THIS?
While you're going to do Pyro first, I'd like to mention this for once you'll get to Demoman: There are demoknight loadouts based around random crits. They either use the bottle (or the pan for extra memes) or the skullcutter. They pair extremely well with the tide turner since random crits negates one of its downsides and can cause a back to back killing spree. It takes one crit and two normal swings to kill a heavy, not counting the shield bash. Somewhat like the Half-Zatoichi, getting kills gives you a temporary buff by increasing your crit rate, which can get up to a devastating 60%. Even the base 15% can be quite strong.
I feel so honored. But yeah, soldier benefits hugely from crits. Since you're probably gonna do pyro next, the best thing he can do is reflect crockets. It's worth noting that he's one of the few classes who have continuously-firing weapons, so crits are for a second or two instead of just one instance. He's probably limited by range more than any other class.
Nice Jumped into mountain lab, started on red, noticed 9+ blu capping first, picked soldier and roketjumped into action as fast as I could, all the while praying to Gaben, when i finally come around the corner i can see the entire enemy team beautifully grouped around the point, as I press m1 they cap and I can hear the strength of lightning envolving my rocket. Gaben has listened to my prayer. Blu is no more. Aleluya. Yeah, soldier get's a lot out of his crits. Still against random crit though.
Normally when i see a Pyro that looks like me, its not actually me. Turns out it actually is me this time (starting at 6:05 on badwater) and I do nothing but airblast in this video.
Be interesting to see if more classes than not benefit from random crits, may even sway the discussion as a whole... Also it is making me think, which class benefits the most from intentional crits, IE the Kritzkreig, like now I kinda think Pyro, with so much combo potential doesn't need it as much as say these two.
I'd say random crits are worst for Heavy. They may not one shot at full health, but he'll be left almost dead and he can't dodge them nearly as well as other classes.
You forgot the begger's bazooka, because it fires three rockets at once it actually has a 3x crit rate, and since a crit rocket can basically kill anything (let alone the additional damage from the other two rockets) it is one of the most powerful random crit weapons in the game. And because someone will comment, no the begger's does not have an actual coded 3x chance, but because you fire 3 rockets in quick succession (each with their own chance at a crit) means that you have 3 seperate chances at a random crit. And ofc because of the projectile spread it isnt good for long range crits, that would go to the direct hit, stock, or liberty launcher. Lastly the airstrike is similar (8 separate chances) but the blast radius and damage is lower than normal so it evens out.
The last three points are the reasons why I personally think random crits should not exist for any class. I feel bad for getting them, I hate getting dropped by a random crit pill when I have 100% uber, and I just generally dislike RNG of all types. I hate things that are not predictable and repeatable in a skill based game.
Honestly? I think that part of the problem is the gunboats. Unless you're playing with a godly sniper or pro pyro, roamers will flank your team in spawn or pick off support classes and then jump out laughing at any crits that make the task even easier...
Soldier & demo benefit the most from random crits RIGHT? Hah! Maybe! But they counter the engie. They SHOOT at engie's buildings. Any crits they fire at the engie's buildings are NOT triple dmg. There are a PRECENTAGE of random crits that DON'T do tripple dmg because all that amazing enemy deleting spam is directed at something that isn't affected by random crits. ALSO 1 teleporter is more benefitial to your match than some random crits your team gets (hit by).

We all know that the rocket jumper is the best when it comes to using random crits
i actually did my hair this morning. thanks for noticing
i love what you did with your hair this morning too!

3:18 rip my boy t-posing sniper.
It's kinda satisfying to die from a random crocket to the face.
I'm happy you said competitive soldiers don't like random crits. Competitive soldiers usually have kreitz medics pocketing them

That soldier looks like he got away with mass murdering an entire team with crits
Enjoy your summer too, cosmic!
A video series just talking about the pros and cons a class has with random crits INSTEAD OF TELLING PEOPLE HOW THEY SHOULD THINK ABOUT A GAME MECHANIC? WHAT TALK OF MADNESS IS THIS?
thank u mr Afro man
All the dislikes are pub soldiers who took offense at the "real soldier mains" bit.

Next Video, How Random Crits Affect: This Sneaky Frenchy [Spy]

C sauce is back!

"youre supposed to be going for fat meatshots as scout" no, take a look at mr. slins video on scout

I love getting a random crit with the Direct Hit because it will delete a fully overhealed Heavy.
I'd say random crits are worst for Heavy. They may not one shot at full health, but he'll be left almost dead and he can't dodge them nearly as well as other classes.
When the rocket is critical! 😳
You can't mini-crit engis because it says the sentry is a different entity so TECHNICALLY they are not explosion jumping.
Time to trigger everyone:
RemoveRandomCrits: just got killed by a crit from a guy who installed 10 mins ago
Keeprc: doesnt care at all
Funny thing I was untangling my hairs while watching this video then right when I was putting it up you were saying it looked great :)
take it from a pub soldier main: I despise random crits
Yup! Which is why I said more-likely and not all and labeled the three things about random crits that experienced players despise :D
I thought it was a gibus heavy in the thumbnail

9:04 cosmo confirmed spicy
this is a video by cosmic afro
this pleases the gramp
Fun fact: Without random crits there could not be people using crit hacks in casual servers.
As a medic main, I'm most afraid of soldier crits, yeah I can surf rockets but try that with a crocket
Thank you for making this video. The way tf2 favours soldier is abhorrent. It ruins the point of specializing in any other class.
my only type of crits is the market garden crits
I took a 15 min shower and got some new shampoo
4:29 it's medic or demo. I'm betting on medic
5:07
i didnt consent to this i'm suing you for 5000 vbucks, 200 diamonds, and 100 emeralds
Love you too
I forgot jumping pyros ;-;
Would rather random mini crits
egg

Random crits are incredibly dirty when you're a banner soldier (me)
for me,a 388 damage from the direct hit is a literal delete button
I didn't shower and my hair is messy as hell
Yet you are still GLORIOUS
Honestly? I think that part of the problem is the gunboats. Unless you're playing with a godly sniper or pro pyro, roamers will flank your team in spawn or pick off support classes and then jump out laughing at any crits that make the task even easier...
Bing bong
bestworst outro
thanks for noticing my hair uwu senpai
As spy mains we suffer most from random crits.
Interesting

Hmm
good god the game came out 12 years ago just give up
When I get a crocket kill I just feel dirty. Like I need to take a shower
