Yo, I am a bit of a community creator myself, got some stuff in over the years. First off: nice video. It's refreshing seeing a tf2ber care about workshop creators. Second, some extra information about the %: the current global cut for community contributors on community cases is not really known, although it's speculated it's well under 25%. Also it depends on what kind of contribution you've got in, with rates seemingly being lower for unusual/war paint creators. Community creators are pretty much nda'd from talking about money in any way that would reveal Valve's finances so sadly we can't really provide any transparancy either. Even if though, it would be a little more complicated then presented in your video since most tf2 workshop submissions have multiple contributors so most of the time we're getting a % of a %
From what I've seen, that is about what I expected it to be. And that it isn't made transparent how that works is also a major issue for me. I know that people can individually price how much a person earns percentage wise from their piece. I.E. two creators can split 50/50, or 70/30, or however they agree to it. I wanted to present the issue as simply as possible to show how even in a very simple situation with an even 50/50 split, Valve still walks away with giving Creators very little. And even if Valve had 90% given to the creators in a case, split among the many individual people in a single box is just an abysmal deal.
@@CosmicAfro Yeah, that low percentage is super problematic as is the fact they aren't up front about it. I don't unbox because I don't want to reward Valve for neglecting their game, and while i support community creators there has to be a better way to do it.
Thanks! it took a lot more work than I thought, so much of this video was scrapped due to time, and I wanted to just have things exist properly. Anything about this video you liked in particular?
It's pretty annoying how much Valve takes from the community creators while also ignoring actually updating the game and adding new weapons concepts made by the community
As someone that's made 60 something item and unusual concepts I'd be more content with mannco store additions. I don't care so much about money, as I don't think this should be anything more than passive income, because, after all, I do this because I think it's fun and I want to contribute to the game. I agree with these points, though.
@@CosmicAfro i like how you bring up the dumb crafting system, i wish it was overhauled as well. Im gonna have to rewatch it if i wanna be more specific though. But yea, it was great.
@@CosmicAfro now im watching it for my second time, im liking the way you integrate comedy into every part of the video. While still keeping it serious at the same time. Your comparison also makes sense which oh god so many people are bad at that. But i now have something to bring up, making everything be man co store could effect the steam community market, im not sure how exactly, but it could.
There needs to be more incentive to buy from the Mann Co store. Even if community items got moved onto there nobody would buy them if they all costed 8 dollars
This also destroys themed sets. I've wanted to make a full American themed loadout on soldier with the airstrike, but the star-striped warpaint is way too expensive.
I think you should check out Actman’s video on Valve. He has a segment about this that shows how DOTA faced a similar issue. The difference with them is they were told they would earn a certain percentage and were given another. Also talk about the hoops Valve jumps through to avoid abiding by laws.
Look up Snowflake Swirled, Glacial Glazed, and I recently learned from Zesty jesus that Pumpkin Pied has a clip-art traced pie slice on it as well. Glacial Glazed is a frosted texture but filtered. Snowflake Swirled has legit clip-art snowflakes on it. Also Snowflake swirled's colors are two colors in a swirl tool on photoshop. Starlight Serenity also doesn't have a good seem on it (run a few rotations on it, you'll see an unsightly line on it). It's pretty bad in some cases.
So basically the take away is if you want to make community items that might end up in a crate shoot for the holiday one. It's the best chance of making some decent money for designing a cosmetic for a video game.
Good. I know it sucks that it's unequal across the world, but I think it's a step in the right direction. I remember what Valve did to France after their Government appointed committee said, "Players deserve the right to know what's in their box before they pay for it. This will stop the gambling element." And Valve said, "okay. here's an Xray mechanic in our game! Now, a player can see what's inside their box one at a time. That's right, you can only put in ONE box, and you can't remove the box until you open it with a key." Which is gambling... but with one extra step, and maliciously agreeing to their terms on their terms.
@@CosmicAfro i disagree that it is a good thing, its your money you should have the right to spend it in whatever you want, even if it is for virtual hats gambling
@@nome9752 You are absolutely right. It IS your money, and you have every right to spend it. However, that has never been a justifiable argument. Just because one has the *ability* to spend it on something doesn't mean it's necessarily good. Good for you, the company, it's consumers, etc. We gotta ask the bigger questions here, Erick. Do you believe adolescents having access to paid gambling before adulthood is beneficial? And if so, why? Do you think that- because you are able to- there should be no restrictions on purchasing items overall? Do you think there are some items that should be prevented from being purchased? Which ones would those be? I'm curious, Erick, on your mentality here. I eagerly look forward to your response.
I'm almost MR30. I wanted to talk about Warframe more, so I felt like I needed to make absolutely sure I knew what i was talking about. Best to live through example!
Probably never. We planned this to be an actual game mode, but sadly it couldn't work on TF2 servers due to the limitations on weapons. Spy will be forever lost to time as the final video upload when that game mode WOULD have gone public.

Platinum used towards Tennogen cosmetics are confirmed to still go to the creators and are properly compensated- last I checked. Which is an awesome way to do things, to try and include them even if the OG method can't be offered and is a bit harder to do.

The bee maid bee cute though.
Stop, put it back in your pants, and look in the mirror.

I still hate it that f2ps cant carry every weapon in the game until smissmass rolls around and blesses them with 100 extra slots

i am literally not even allowed to open cases because of EU laws so cases are instantly yeeted
