    Nice. I took my family out to Vietnam for the first time last year an we loved it. I'm also South African and went to make my fortune in South Korea around 15 years ago. My first Korean 'apartment' was a converted car garage with a roller door for a bedroom wall and a dirty mattress on top of an oil stain. With a savings plan and will to work long hours, I now live in my own really nice apartment and have just started my own little school. I'd love to see you review and rate teaching ESL from different countries including China, Japan, and South Korea if you ever leave Vietnam.

    • @RhettandClaire
      @RhettandClaire  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pillow Good amazing! 😂. Are you back in SA now? Congrats on running your own school, Claire has always thought of doing the same thing.
      We’ll try and review teaching ESL in different countries but we’re not sure that we will. We want to teach online and do videography full time eventually 😊

    • @pillowgood1318
      @pillowgood1318 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RhettandClaire No, I'm still in South Korea. When the yellow dust levels are low, its still my personal paradise. It has more infrastructure and order than Vietnam, but not overly so, like Japan. That said, all three are still nice places to live.

    • @RhettandClaire
      @RhettandClaire  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pillow Good oh my! We had to google yellow dust to understand what you were talking about. We had never heard of it being in Korea before! Do you plan on raising your family there?😊

      @@RhettandClaire For the time being. I also have it in the back of my mind to get a teaching license and try get an international school job in Vietnam. My Korean wife said Vietnam reminds her of Korea 20 years ago. We like that feeling.

    • @RhettandClaire
      @RhettandClaire  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pillow Good a teaching license is a great qualification to have anywhere in the world. We would highly recommend it 😊. International schools here in Vietnam pay really really well, Claire worked at one for a little while this year.

    • @RhettandClaire
      @RhettandClaire  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These apartment blocks in District 2 are generally brand new and extremely clean. We didn’t see any cockroaches or mice, or even ants in our apartment. You’ll find them in older, more local apartment blocks and houses - those are easily avoidable though 😊. You have nothing to worry about!

      @@RhettandClaire The cheapeast one bedroom apartment I can find in my city already costs $650 per month(everything included but for the past 5 years, there's an increase of $15-$20 every year which the owner claims higher administration fee. Always pros and cons, high cost of living is like any first world country, people are constantly under stress that you don't see people smile even they drive deluxe cars, high taxes...Life here to me is mundane, in return, less polution, good infrastructure. Every year Canada lost 100 thousands because they move abroad.

      @RhettandClaire  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andre Nguyen yeah it’s true, every developed city is expensive and life seems to be more stressful. It’s like that in South Africa although South Africa isn’t a developed country. Every country has its pros and cons, just like Vietnam does. Thanks for the comment! 😊

      @phapnui 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I know places in homes where you can rent a big room with bathroom for $500/month and get use of kitchen and sauna and ongoing invite to parties. Price includes all utilities and Internet and daily maid service. Month by month. I married into a large family and until I got a house near the family, they refused to let me pay anything for use of room. Renting a room in a home can be both economical for foreigners and you get a taste of the culture and get to know locals. When I am in Vietnam, I live and travel with my family and friends. They take me to both the popular tourist places as well as the "hidden" places in the nooks and crannies of HCMC that few tourists are aware of.
