I had an Amish guy make my HD pants/gun belt 5 years ago. Still doesn't show any wear from stretch or color fade. Single piece of harness leather. Best belt I have ever owned. I EDC either a M&P Shield 380 EZ or a Sig P365 XL OWB in a converted form fit paddle holster.

Noob here. What's the trick to using thread to sharpen/strop the rounded beveler? I have one and cannot get sharp. I tried using 2mm leather cord and 1mm cord with brown, white, then green rougue. What cord do you use? I imagine the thread size varies depending on beveler size?

What thickness did you split each piece to?
Why use two layers and not just one thicker piece of leather wouldn’t that be better instead of gluing two pieces together?
The flesh side of leather is very rough, so pulling it through belt loops would be a pain. That's why you use two straps with the smooth side on both out so your belt when worn can adjust and slide when wearing.

Wow. He makes it look so easy. I like that copper buckle with the copper rivets. That would be a 2 day+ project for me, for sure. In my defense, I don't have a sewing machine or a powered burnisher. But regardless, I'm a SLUG when it comes to my leather projects. It seems easy in my head, but in actual practice it takes me FOREVER to finish something. You would fire me on day #1, if I ever worked in your leather shop... [🐄🧵] ➕ [🥵⏱️]= 😤🔥🥾🚪
He really does. But honestly the tools help make this. Sure burnishing wouldn’t take real long. However punching and hand stitching would be a chore. Stitching pony to the aid though!!

What is the reason for making it from two layers and not one thick layer?

Hello! My name is Sergey, I'm from Russia!) I wanted to ask you for advice. I started making leather goods. I use vegetable tanned leather. I buy already dyed leather. Leather without topcoat.
I take colored leather and soak it with natural compounds, such as: bone oil, fat, a mixture of waxes.
I ran into such a problem. After the leather has been soaked, I remove the remnants of the product with a cloth, and the tissue stains from the leather. That is, the leather (after impregnation) stains the fabric.
I was told that after the leather is saturated, it must be covered with a finishing agent. What topcoat is used to create a reliable topcoat.
But traditional finishes spoil the naturalness of the leather a little. That is, after applying the finishing agents, natural impregnated leather loses its attractiveness.
This makes me very sad.
I would like to soak the leather and, possibly, treat the leather with a finishing agent, but in order to preserve the naturalness of the leather.
I want to soak and treat the dyed vegetable tanned leather in such a way as to preserve the naturalness of this leather. And most importantly - the leather should not stain the fabric when I wipe the surface of the leather.
That is, the finish should be, but it should not spoil the natural properties of the leather.
That is, I need:
1) Impregnate the leather with natural means (oil, fat, maybe something else)
2) Protect the leather, cover with a finish coating, but so that the leather does not lose its naturalness. And most importantly - in no case should it stain the fabric.
Please advise me - how can I achieve this?

Master, Barge, Aquila 315 are all great contact adhesives!
What did you condition the belt with ? Saddle soap only ?

Putting jewelers rouge on string and then sharpening the beveler.

Renia Aquilim 315, I see it's applied to both surfaces, do you let dry first like "Barge" or set together while wet?
When using Renia Aquilim 315: Spread this glue on leather thinly and wait for it to clear before adhering to another leather.

I recently made a belt using two pieces of 4-5oz veg tan. I dyed it with Pro dye and finished it with leather balm with atom wax sewed the two pieces together. However when I wore the belt for the first time the leather “wrinkled” is several areas. What can cause this?
Did you glue the two pieces together? How long did you let the glue set?
Yes I did glue the two pieces together. I let the glue set until it was tacky, probably 5-7 minutes.

This was just a specialty belt we made. But if you contact us...we might have someone here that would be happy to make you one.
Nice for the craftsman who has $6000+ in tooling and toys. How about doing this belt for the kitchen table craftsman?
To be fair the electric machines you could purchase for this project would be under $3000 (with what we listed Class 3 and burnisher). But to be completely honest this belt can be done by hand. Maybe we will do a video where we hand stitch and hand burnish.
What size needle did you use on your machine?
Hi Brian! Clayton uses a size 25 heavy stitching needle in this video www.springfieldleather.com/Needle-Machine-3000-Dia-Sz25 . On the top the thread is size 207 and on the bottom the thread is size 138, so realistically you could use anything from a size 24-26. 😊

Awesome video! Do you carry the paddle foot used on the sewing machine in this video? I looked for it on your website, but couldn’t seem to find it. Would this paddle foot work on a 441 clone?

So that foot is one the is made for an artisan machine. They couldn’t speak to the Juki. However they look very similar.
I respect the craftsman ship that goes into making a belt like this but honestly don't understand an important part of the process. You start with two pieces of thick leather and then at 1:26 skive them both roughly in half. Then you sew them back together, making the assembled piece roughly the same thickness of each original piece. Why bother with this double step? Can't you just use one original piece and save yourself two steps? Thanks again for the video. KB.
When you cut the 2 pieces in half and glue them together, then you are dealing with 2 parts of top grain leather. So that will make a little stiffer belt than just one thick piece and you won't have to deal with the flesh side on the back.
I want to make a leather gun belt for concealed carry. I have seen where a stainless steel liner needs to be glued between layers. Where can I buy the steel liner?
It doesn't have to be used, but it can add extra durability. I would contact a local metal shop and see if they could help your with a metal blank. Thanks Tony
What cord did you use to sharpen your beveler ?
It is just a pieces of heavy cotton cord that we first pulled through some Jewelers Rouge. Just find something that fits the gap of the edge beveler and then the process is the same as above.

Lovely belt....just a shame that it's machine stitched and burnished, instead of being done by hand. Now it can't be called truly hand made.

You also have to plug the machine in by hand.

I use to hand stitch belts it take a fair time it's a bugger on your fingers. Getting my machines was the best thing I ever did . And as per your reply. He cut prepared the leather and he had to hold it in the machine

Hey there; whats the glue type for leather and to finish edges? is it something special? some resin?
