I liked your other video, but this was terrible. You neglect to mention that you have almost 200,000 miles in this car. 200,000 miles!! I'm sure you need new shocks. And what do you expect in terms of squeaks and rattles from 10 years and over 300,000km!? Also, there is nothing "sporty" at all about the C220 CDI... you mentioned "amg" in the video. It's as far from an AMG as a turtle is from a rabbit. Don't be misled by a marketing package called "sport". Seems like this is a great car for what it is: a light luxury economy sedan.

I own the same car as this one just a year newer and i've never heard of a sport version of it, and when it comes to amg i've only heard of amg facelift (which i can see he doesn't have on this car). But calling it slow is harsh i think, i mean it's not a mclaren, but considering that most regular roadcars usually has 120-130bhp, and this one has a 170bhp, 400nm, diesel engine it gets you up to speed as quick as you need, but no it's not a sporty car.. it's as you said: a light luxury economy sedan.

The choice is I suppose if you did not want to pay out you could have brought a low milage well loved Mercedes rather than high milage run down one where previous owner did not do very much maintenance, or accept your situation and fix all the outstanding maintenance and replace shocks sway bar links, suspension arms etc. My 2008 C200K AMG sport is great, very tight on the road no rattles and a pleasure to own and drove.

Hi bro. Got a 2009 C180 Kompressor(1.6 engine) petrol, estate, Sport version with 97k miles.I feel the suspension quite stiff and handles well in the corners. Light bulb failure came on but it is one on way out so no false warning. Im just worried about the single chain transmission on this engine. Can you tell us please where did you buy the Repair CD manual? Cheers.

I had one of these a 2008 model and it was great then and lasted me 8 years before I upgraded to the new C class, you go and drive a 10 year old Ford and then do a comparison. In my opinion they make the best cars.

  • @Motorsportsgeek
    @Motorsportsgeek 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

my 10 year old c class drives better then 2018 cars please give me a break, go drive anything thats 10 years old and it will feel like garbage compared to a c class. Even the new w205 c class doesnt really ride much better, they jsut made it bigger, obviously rides better because it has newer not 10 year old suspension parts.
Also the sport suspension is actually much much stiffer and actually ruff riding for most people, you drive a base or comfort model in comparison and they are much less stiffer.

Murikaaaan here & my family has been driving MBs for 60 Years. I inherited a low mileage, heated/cooled garaged, showroom condition, 2010 C300 4-Matic Luxury from my Mom who passed away recently. I oversaw her meticulous maintenance of her car since she purchased it new in 2010. It's probably 1 of the best modern Mercedes and tons of them are still driving on the road here in NYC. It feels solid, handles very well & fairly low maintenance. Yes, major maintenance intervals are expensive if you take it to a dealer, however I found a private mechanic that charges 1/3 of the $300/Hrly Rate my MB dealer charges. I plan on keeping this car forever. I have driven the new Benzes, and they are awful, cheap, tech-junk nightmares...🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️

First thing: that looks like a piss poor example of a W204 you've got there. It doesn't look well maintained. It looks completely trashed.
Second thing: where do you get off saying this was the AMG sports package model? The C350 can be equipped with a sport package (I have one) and of course there was the C63 but whatever this thing is you have is definitely more of a base model. Looks like your car doesn't even have the optional duel exhaust. Jesus Christ man, give your head a shake...

Just what is "an American style suspension" ??? The C-Class Saloon was never defined as a "Sport Car" , it is a saloon with a very sporty look. I had switched from a E200 W212 to a W204, and because of the lighter chassis weight, the C Class seems to be faster off the stop light. I feel it is a perception as the engine feels more punchy and ready. In fact the W204 is about 30 odd bhp less.
The W204 lacks a few intelligent features from the W212, obviously becos of the price diff. But it is in every way a perfect German car in it's class range. There is about only ONE thing I hate about the W204 is that the Comfort mode is always by default when car restarts, unlike the w212 which will stay in S or C whichever mode you switched off at.
I feel that this guy with this video totally do not know about Mercedes.

I have a 2014 C 220d AMG Sport. Generally I do like it, however my 'dislike' list is topped by the 2.1 diesel power unit. it is one of the noisiest diesel engines I've ever come across - not something you expect from such a premium manufacturer. Granted, it's the same power plant as the Sprinter, but the noise it produces is biblical. I've just ordered a brand new C220d AMG Line and having driven the new ones, I can happily say they have addressed some of the harshness of the older engine.

  • @DarrenPersad
    @DarrenPersad 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

What ignorance! That’s no AMG there, the “Sport” designation is a trim or package level that can be had from base to top-level C Class vehicles. Yours is a very nearly base C Class with the Sport Package.
Suspension is not the same as the Luxury Package, but given the wear on your vehicle, things may have definitely softened up over time.
Constant maintenance? Again, wear, and perhaps it could be a sign of previous ownership as well. These are quite basic vehicles to own.
Size-wise, that’s really a you problem. Plenty of opportunities to examine and test vehicles before you own them. See how it fits compared to others in the class. If you’re complaining about it not fitting you, then that’s a result of your own negligence. Besides, if you’re buying a compact for a family with three kids (to use your example), then you’re looking at the wrong class of vehicle altogether.
Rattles, squeaks, and small creaks I can definitely attest to in these. As is the case with most a lot of these cars, once they’re subjected to poor roads, varying temperatures, and less-than-ideal conditions, squeaks and rattles pop up very easily. Unfortunately, your pre-refresh near-base model is even more subject to that.

I've recently bought an identical 2009 W204. It has 216,000 on the clock but it looks and feels like a car with less than half the mileage. It had passed the MoT about 2 months prior to me buying it. All I've done to it so far was to adjust the parking brake shoes. I've clocked up just over 400 miles and it hasn't missed a beat or put a foot wrong which is testament to Mercedes build quality.
EDIT: I had to have the rear subframe replaced which was thankfully covered under warranty. The dealer that inspected the car found a few other things that needed attention and it is pretty much sorted aside from some minor niggles. I suspect that some of the things that annoyed you were probably addressed with the 2011 facelift.

The road noise is tires, w204s are very very sensitive to what tires you put on them. My summer are Michelins and their is absolutely no road noise, even on the high way. Now when I put my chinese winters (I keep them because they are studded), it sounds like a tank, compared to the summer tires, its like a wheel bearing is faulty but no its just loud tires. I also got the car with cheap summer chinese tires before I put michelins and the road noise was horrible, I actually got a better deal on it saying it had a bad wheel bearing but it was just the cheap tires haha.

i have a benz like this but with a 3.5 liter petrol engine. I can agree with a few points you made. The original steering wheel - trash. Not only ergonomics and materials wise, but also the multimedia controls on the steering wheel it has. I upgraded to it from an 8th gen Civic, and that cars steering wheel was so much better, you can google just a picture of it and you'll be able to tell that it's a much more comfortable steering wheel with much better controls on the steering wheel. The Civic also had MUCH better front seats. Not only comfort wise but also it had much better bolstering on the sides to keep you in the seats.
Also, mine one is also a sport package, which means slightly stiffer suspension, 18inch rims, slightly lower to the ground. I was pretty disappointed with how much body roll it has as well. Granted mine one has a panoramic sun roof so it's a bit more heavy up top, but still too much body roll. I had installed a strut brace to help deal with the body roll but it's not enough. Planning to install one in the middle of the car and one in the rear as well. Also considering the body roll, the suspension isn't that comfortable, you feel everything quite well. But it's still better than my old car in this regard, definitely an improvement so maybe i am just being picky here.
Also practicality wise this car isn't the greatest either, the glove box compartment is disgustingly bad in such a big car. Very small and even that small space is ruined by two shelves inside of the glove compartment. My 8th gen civic sedan was slightly smaller and it had much better practicality inside in almost every way.
However, i still love the car, but i am not going to be bias about it just because i own it, there's a lot to dislike about it as well.
It looks incredible and with a 3.5 engine it has some really decent power and good sound, both from the engine and exhaust and is overall fun to drive. But if i could get a an 8th gen civic sedan, with the same engine and rear wheel drive or 4 wheel drive, i would much rather own the civic than this car. My plan is to keep this car for a long time though, because i know that a perfect car doesn't exist. I was choosing between the w204 c350 and e92 335i and both cars had good and bad.
So for those here who are getting hurt because they own the car, don't. this isn't a personal attack, lol.
And to those who are looking to own a w204 one day, it's still a great car, but it certainly isn't a perfect one.

I have the same car and its super cool. Just its the 200 cdi. My cat was a bit clogged because of short travels. I just love the shape and the luxury drive it gives me. The fuel consumption is amazing. 5/100km on long drives. I think you need a to drive an i10 😅

Strange to hear all that road noise in your video, did you purchase it used? My W204 C320CDI Avantegarde is completely sound proof, I don't hear any road or tire noise, only when I open the sunroof. No internal squeaks or knocks. I've also had those intermitent light bulb warnings, but usually a quick pull and clean on the connections and it's good to go again. I believe it's the humid weather. Other than that, a yearly oil change and diesel filter and absolutely 0 problems! Make sure to use the low ash oil as to not clog the DPF. 🍻

Yay, Sunniside! So it sounds like they're not improving with the W204. I currently have a W203 C220 CDI and it seems to have most of the problems yours has along with some diesel-specific problems. Okay, mine has done over 200,000 miles but my Wife has a 1998 W202 C200 with the same mileage and it's a completely different car! Everything is built way over-engineered. She had a 1994 W202 C180 before that and again it had over 200,000 miles and was over-engineered (in fact, it's still going - a friend now has it and he loves it)

You waste money on a Porsche to enjoy "luxury" or "speed" and you want to have a critical opinion of a Mercedes.

I'm a little confused as to why people make a video about the things they hate about a car. It seems pointless to me, things you hate other people might like.
I've got a 2013 W204 (facelift), bought it brand new and apart from replacing the usual service items, not a single thing has failed on it and it drives like the day I bought it 10yrs ago. In fact, only last year I had to replace the brake pads/rotors. I have changed the oil/filter every 6mths or 5,000km without fail. Most reliable car I have ever had. So, nobody really cares what you hate about it. If you dislike it so much, stop whining and get rid of it. Simple.

My son has one of these and I am surprised at the problems it has. Rusty brake pipes is a major safety problem that should not happen. Info screen failure. Engine breather diaphragm failure that means a new cam cover. Auto trans cooler pipe failure. Air bag recall- parts not available. The list goes on . I thought Mercedes were better quality than this.

I'd like to know, When did MercedesBenz decide that all saloons (C & E Class) bought in U.K. Only, don't come with and can't get a standard grill. I don't mind the 2 door models, SUV's or even the CLS, but the saloons should always have the standard grill with pointed star on top of bonnet.

I drive a 58 plate 220 cdi with 90k on the clock and I really dislike driving it in cold weather. The heater takes at least 5 miles to warm up, it is my 3rd c class and they have all been the same. How do the Germans manage, my Merc mechanic tells me all the 220s are the same and yet nobody else mentions the problem. A shortage of storage space is a secondary niggle.

Evidently you haven't taken care of this vehicle. You must have 300k miles on this. I have a 2011 with 94k miles and I haven't had any of these problems whatsoever. If yours is "wobbly & shaking while turning" then you've obviously tore up something on the vehicle.

I bought a 2014 W204 coupe (petrol) a year old. It was a bag of shit. Kept it a couple of months and bought a Vauxhall GTC instead. A whole lot better and had £10k to put back in my bank. Why drive a badge to impress the neighbours when you can drive something decent.

Really enjoyed for the video, I was just given a 57 plate c180 Kompressor sport with 21,000 miles and just got it back from the Mercedes dealer as it went in for a service. Drives like new ,smooth and quiet currently , hope it stays that way for a long time but at least know what to expect in the future. Thank you.
