Just finished watching that movie. I have only one word - BEST!!! BEST BEST BEST film i ever watched! Robert Zemeckis did great job. If you watch it you will not regret it!
Carl Sagan, famous for the romance of science series 'Cosmos', wrote novel 'Contact'. While writing the novel, he asked theoretical astrophysicist Kip Thorne the question, ~ would be possible to build an interstellar transporter - Thorne went away and worked a 'solution' (details of which are in updated versions of the text 'Gravitation' by Misner, Thorne, and Wheeler). Later Thorne became scientific advisor to Christopher Nolan' for the movie 'Interstellar'. Later Thorne got the nobel prize in physics, a boost in general for the physics community specializing in the study of gravity. So many connections between these two movies, and funny enough Matthew McConaughey is a 'star' (no pun intended) in both. 'Contact' on the big screen was a great, thoughtful watch.
I truly don't understand why the reviews of this movie are mediocre. This movie is fantastic!! I've seen it like 4 times. The trailer alone makes my blood boil in anticipation .
An agree, it is a fantastic movie. It requires some thinking and emotional investment as well as phantasy from the viewer. That could be the reason that it wasn't the best blockbuster.
That signal noise has stayed with me since seeing it in 1997 on the big screen. Fabulous movie. And the entire thing is plausible too. I highly recommend watching it.
This is the definitive alien contact movie. Next up I would place "Arrival" by Denis Villeneuve. 99% of movies in the genre are: Aliens are coming to wreck us but a miracle happens and we defeat them.

This was, in my opinion Jodie Foster's finest performance ever. She was very good in Silence Of The Lambs, but she was fantastic in Contact. I read the book by Carl Sagan, and, of course a lot had to be cut out to make the story tellable in less than 3 hrs, but luckily there's a LOT of boring detail and background story in the book that could be tossed without harming the overall impact and message of the story. Just one little thing that bugs me about the movie: some screenwriter decided to throw is a line t of their own that they repeat a couple of times in the movie because they probably thought it was such a catchy, wise statement - except it's kind of stupid, really: The statement is to the size of the universe, and how it's so huge, that if we were the only life in it, that it would be "an awful waste of space". Carl Sagan- the book's author *never* said that in the book (and would no doubt have agreed that it was a presumptuous statement).
I agree. If you haven't seen it already, I think you'll enjoy watching "Arrival" (released in 2016) starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker. In my opinion, "Arrival" was an excellent movie with a brilliant script.
