  • Installing my new double din stereo into my 2006 3rd gen ram 3500 Cummins. It turned out really nice but had a real struggle dealing with weird wiring issues. Finally figured out how to make the radio not stay on without key power.
This Adapter solves all the issues that I was having. Everything works just like the factory unit with it. Darn CAN bus.

That is crazy...I have been working on a 1992 Nissan Maxima, fortunately the 2000 Ford 7.3 is running strong... but boy howdy that car has made me appreciate my truck even more. I have a deep hole where money used to be and I have learned way more about the car than I ever wanted to... but it’s now nearing the end of the long list of repairs...I hope.. and I will get to enjoy the fruits of my labor, as you will as well. Take care and God bless... David.

Thanks for sharing, hate to see the 7.3 go, but new trails are ahead! Maybe try this for the radio power issue, instead of plugging in the usb charger to cut the power to the unit, use your volt meter or tester to connect the positive to negative terminals in the 12 v plug. See if it registers any voltage and if it turns the head unit off the same way the usb charger does.

Switch the fuse in the tipm! That's the 30 minute accessory plug. It'll be a 3 bay fuse. 20 amp.
Look for the accessory fuse, one is key off, other is 30 minutes.

I know I'm a year late, but your assumption at 24:45 is correct. Just enough power hanging out to keep it on. Add a 1/4 watt 100 ohm resistor to the back of your 12v outlet. That will burn all the residual current quickly. That's what I had to do with both my radio and my LED dome lights

Long time coming but my guess it has to do with relays the radio gets told to turn on by the key but never gets voltage change or anything to tell it to turn off… the radio stays powered because as you said its wired for power and just needs “signal wire” to actually turn on. That’s why when you leave something plugged in the cig lighter port that it will shut off because it’s completing the circuit that the relay is looking for🤔🤷‍♂️

The stock stereo in my 09 ram stays on after you turn the key on and off but once you open the door of the truck it turns off. Or if you sit in the vehicle for a certain amount of time after shutting the key off the stereo would shut off after say 15min. As well as any lights you have left on do the same.
I’m about to install a aftermarket stereo in my truck. I hope it’s just as simple to just open the door and the stereo will shut off like the stock one would

I just wondered why you didn't use the power source from the factory radio. My truck is an 03 3rd gen so it was easy from the factory harness so maybe I'm just missing something. These so called Premium sound systems from the factory are more trouble than they're worth. I'd rather have a 150.00 Kenwood than the best radio the factory has to offer.
