      a lot of people don't seem to understand the purpose of cobra buckles in the context of gun belts, they're supposed to be worn independent of the pants. they're more like a quick detach cummerbund that can be used as a belt as necessary. it's something you set up as part of your holster that you throw on during that bump in the night scenario so you don't have to loop your belt through your pants or even put on a pair of pants.

    However, a comparison of these two buckles is working only in a very small range of applications. If you need a buckle that holds 18 kN (4047 lb), is made of sturdy aluminum and can’t be opened under load then there is no way around the COBRA ®, a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) buckle with an extensively wide range of applications and numerous safety features.

  • @vettepilot427
    @vettepilot427 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Before the Cobra we had plastic side release buckles. These were OK for mag pouches and compression straps, but if one of the tabs were broken the buckle was useless and had to be replaced. This sucks HARD if that buckle happens to be on load bearing connection like a pack hip belt that can't be replaced easily in the field. Cobra buckles came about because "certain people" needed a load rated buckle for tie-in on rigger's belts and didn't want to constantly thread webbing through a ladder lock all day to take a piss or require some kind of fancy ratchet deal on the webbing. If they're used in places that they're not supposed to be or on crappy gear, that's not the buckle's fault.
    They're expensive because they work how they are supposed to. Every time. Especially if you're life depends on it.

  • @zososldier
    @zososldier 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    down side to this is you cant mount anything on the belt where the tail of the belt goes through the buckle. With a cobra, you set it to the size you want and you can now mount pouches or what ever over the tail end because the buckle itself un hooks rather than the belt unhooking from the buckle.

    I had a "cop lock" buckle on my 3 gun belt. The secondary latch would randomly fail if flexed and bending over would press the buckle release into my pants belt. Ever had a belt unbuckle itself while running the course?
    I'll stick with my Cobra. It's tested and works.

    I own a lot of Kore gun belts and accessories and they are fantastic. They are well designed, well built and durable. The guys at Kore are also great people with great customer service. If it's not a Kore belt, I pretty much don't wear it. I do have one gun belt however, that is made of some type of tough polymer webbing which is water proof and I do wear that for maritime activities. I wish Kore made a maritime gun belt, it is about the only thing they're missing in their arsenal of belts, buckles and accessories. I have used one of my nylon Kore gun belts in the water and it swoll up and was tight as hell to fit into the buckle for about a week. After it dried up it shrank down to normal and it had no other issues, but clearly it was not meant to be used in the water.

  • @GMAN72263

    You are exactly right on so many points. My original EDC belt was a good, stiff belt with a Cobra buckle. I liked it, except the lack of quick adjustment. I had two belts, one when carrying and one when not. Adjusting back and forth was not practical, and fine tune adjustment was impossible without removing the belt and then doing trial and error to find the right fit. I found the Kore belts, and that is all I will use, nothing else comes close. I have a battle belt that works fine, it’s a padded belt and basically used for range trips and zombies. I really wanted to add a double belt setup, but I’m spoiled by my EDC Kore belts. I really thought there was no way to have a double belt with the fine adjustment of the Kore belts, but I was wrong. I recently found the Kore battle belt, now just waiting for them to offer it in OD Green. This is a great video, and you do bring up some good points for EDC.

    I own and use the Nextbelt for EDC. It has the same ratcheting system as the Kore. My belt replaced my 6 year old 5.11 Operator Belt, which worked great until I noticed that the hook 'n' loop was wearing out and the belt was a burden with other holsters. My battle belt is made by Grey Ghost Gear. They use the small Cobra buckle, which I don't have a problem with. I just wouldn't wear a belt with a Cobra buckle for EDC. So, that I agree with your sentiment concerning Cobra buckles on an EDC belt.

    Kore does what they do well. When I first heard of Kore I REALLY liked their concept but wasn't willing to spend that much on a belt. The other brand I bought that works on the same ratchet concept disintegrated within a few months and wasn't nearly as stiff (not as good for carrying stuff like guns). Buy once, cry once.

    Interested until you said Kore. This system, while convenient for some, is susceptible to too many mechanical failures. The belt is stiff. Really stiff. But after a couple hours of semi-constant movement, under any amount of load, will render you uncomfortable around your hip and midsection. The spline will wear and fail surprisingly fast (we tested 7 belts) and imo for the $ you pay isn’t worth it. Personally, I prefer edc belts that have normal buckles (looking at you Ciguera) that have a stiff, secure, but all day comfy feel. Just my two cents. Great video!

    If you dont own a NexBelt, you are a noob. They are the best EDC belt ever invented. The buckle itself adjust the size and tightness in an instant. In 1 second you can go from super tight to completely falling off you and back to super tight in a second...and the belt is still locked together around you at all times. So your holster can NEVER slip off the belt... Its basically a ziptie belt around your waist. The only time the buckle and belt comes apart is when you need to take to belt off the pants.

    What were the clips used to mount the magazine holders to the belt? They were very cool

    Awesome video, very informative. I have a gun belt that has that ratchet link but it is a regular looking belt. I like that one because of the fact you can take it off and not have your pants fall off

    Core Essentials is the best belt ever made. They are fantasy
    The only thing I don't like is that they will "bleed" into a white shirt if you swet on a brown or black belt that touches a shirt. Not sure if I'm the only one to experience this issue, but it does suck that you can ruin a brand new shirt after a day of being in the heat!!!
    Still the best belt ever made!!!

    Cool belt system but I still like my cobra setups.
    I used to work retail so I got a few for a smoking deal.
    I'm an outlier though because I'm 6'3" and only weigh 150ish before the morning poo.
    For a tall thin guy like me, it's easy to use my cobras for multiple applications.

    I have a kore belt but it has I different buckle. It really hard to undo and I have had some panic moments during a code brown trying to get it off.

    We use multiple cobra buckles on our flight gear because of all the things you described. When it’s the only thing standing between you and becoming an earth pancake you need that level of security. I use it for my battle belt as well because I have a repel rated belt and a monkey tail again for the same reason however it is absolutely overkill for range work or basic LARPing in your moms basement or your barracks room. In all I really enjoyed your review and you made some solid points.

    The Kore design came out extremely overpriced and has stayed that way. It's a nifty gimmick but not $100 worth of nifty. The Cobra buckle can be counted on with your life and only costs $40. Learn to suck it in.

    I own a Kore belt and don't like it because their buckle is "normal" size in thickness, which is unacceptable for a skinny persons CCW because a T.Rex sidecar holster + belt buckle in front = huge lump in front of your waist that you can't hide.

      Skinny guy here, and I have both a Kore and a Blue Alpha gear low profile EDC belt, and they both work great. If you're appendix carrying anything with the buckle in the front, you're doing it wrong.

    cobra buckles can be smaller. sounds like you are a sellout. kore with their marketing team is doing way too much. i went with other brand. kore is banned on reddit for spam botting and buying people to talk good about their products

    buy once cry once, I have a misty mountain belt with a cobra buckle for $200 thats good for most anything. better than buying multiple belts that would likely total over $200 anyways. I do agree that most users wont put it through serious use to justify the cost (myself included)

    Damn that looks like an awesome belt option! I tried an appendix holster out at my local shop the other day, and was curious about how I’d get used to it over time. I have a pretty standard stiff web EDC belt and a Canik TP9SF (not the compact like yours) I was kind of disappointed because it felt odd at first. (I have a similar midsection to yours ha) I guess I’ll just have to either get used to it, get one of these Kore belts, or maybe get a smaller carry pistol ha!
