    My brother has a 2006 pilot and my dad had a 1999 explorer until he got the new 2017 model. I was surprised by the pilot when my brother got it. I absolutely love driving it and the engine was surprisingly quiet and responsive. My dad took really good care of his ‘99 explorer and almost didn’t want to let it go when he got the new one. What I’ve learned from these is that they both have their pros and cons but if you take care of them then they shouldn’t give you any problems for your everyday driving. My brother’s Pilot looks like it can last another 10 years. Has no trouble with snow. I’m still curious as to how long my dad’s new explorer will last. Hopefully just as long as his old one.

    I've actually had the opportunity to drive the new Explorer and I have to say, I was impressed. Ford always has an edge on ride and comfort but you are right Laura - it does still feel old school, whereas there's no doubt that the Pilot is streets ahead on the tech. Love the new format of comparison videos. Keep up the good work Laura - you are awesome!

    with a name like Honda Laura, did you honestly expect her to do a fair review. She started the video off by saying "What's up Honda fans" LOL. Everything she mentioned that the Honda has is available with the Ford. I did however find her skit on folding the seats away to be funny but everyone knows that you can pick an option for power folding seats 2nd row has that option too "Town and Country" youtube channel shows it in their review of the 2016 sport model @ 21:07 in their video, nice try Laura. Notice she stayed away from reviewing the Sports model she knows what's what. I don't hate Honda but this bogus vs. review really Grinds my Gears like Peter Griffin would say.

    • @jandro5493
      @jandro5493 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +royl4 I do agree with this review being bogus since her opinion clearly came bias. However, I think the cars picked were a fair comparison for similar package/price, minus her lack of knowledge of the Ford Explorer. Sure there's always options to add more to a package and pay more, but Honda really stepped up their game with feature rich Pilots. E.g. the "power" folding 2nd row seats are standard for that trim and up. And if she was to review the Explorer Sports model, she'd also have to review the Pilot Touring to keep the comparison to similar package/price.
      Just my two cents. I'll going with the Pilot. :P.

    My mom owned a 2012 Pilot and decided it was time for and upgrade so she got a 2017 Pilot. She decked it out because of how much she loved her last one. After just two weeks of driving it she went to the ford dealership and traded it in for an Explorer. She says that it is now her dream car. Not a Range Rover or nothing... a Ford Explorer. Also it is way more advanced and luxurious than the Pilot coming from a 5’11” teenager who learned how to drive in the Explorer and often sits in the third row for 15+ hour road trips. Just saying that the old Pilots were great but now I think the Explorers have pulled ahead drastically.

    How many Ford Explorers are still daily drivers compared to the Honda Pilot? Explorers were first introduced in 1991, Pilots were first introduced in 2001.... From "KELLEY BLUE BOOK" (1992 Ford Explorer Consumer Reviews, 311000 miles and still runs like new, Pros: "It's a FORD!"
    Cons: "no cons runs perfect"
    Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
    "Best car I've ever owned.. I hauled 1,000 LBS of feed in the back once a week, sure it squats a little but it still drives like there is nothing back there. I have never had any problems with it (besides normal car maintenance) it is Eddie bower 4 door so it seats 5 people. It runs still like brand new even at 311,000 miles. I use it twice a day everyday and It gets used and ran hard time to time but it stills starts up and runs like i just got it straight off of the line.. I prefer this car over any car.. Ford always makes the best.."
    HONDA - Poor build quality,
    "Bought a brand new 2008 Pilot EX in southern California in Feb 2008. A day later, replaced a defect door trim, and about 30 days later spotted many rusty parts underside the car. Some of them appear to be very rusty and must have started a while ago. Contacted both dealer and regional Honda office. They claimed that surface rusts are not covered by the warranty and declined to fix it. Their customer care is non existent in this case. So before you decide to buy a Honda, it might be a very good idea to check out the underside paint carefully. We did not expect this poor paint quality. We also have a 1999 Camry. Even today, it shows no underside rust at all."

      Bob Jewell I owned a ford, and it broke down completely at just 12,000 miles. I still have a 2008 honda odyssey from April 2008. not use, and it has over 143,000 miles on it. it never had any issues, however, I agree that the explorer is also a good choice. if you want luxury, go with the ford. if you want reliability, and a long lasting car, then get the honda

    Normally I would prefer a Honda to a Ford based on reliability. But the Explorers base 3.5L V6 retains Multi-Port fuel injection, which makes a bit less torque and mileage. The Pilots Direct Injection engine is prone to intake valve carbon build up, which requires a Technician to scrape the carbon from the valves. This can happen a fairly low mileage, depending on such things as driving habits. Also the 16'' Pilots new aluminum front suspension control arms are flimsy, compared to the Explorers steel control arms.

    Notice they didn't show the manual opening of the Honda's rear door and left out the auto opening of the Ford's rear door, the fact that I can also open the rear door on my Explorer with the key FOB and also with my foot when my hands are full. And that's standard on the inexpensive XLT model and up. And anyone that can't figure out those rear seats and how to fold them down needs to be led out to pasture and left there. I'm guessing those are the same people that I find scratching their heads at gas pumps on how to operate the handles and where to slide the card.

    • @brianbriggs102
      @brianbriggs102 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't even have to use my foot with my Hyundai Tucson. I just have to have the key fob in my pocket and stand behind it for 3 seconds. Beat that.

    • @jamesmorris9169
      @jamesmorris9169 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brian Briggs Well you can beat that by having a full load that you are carrying and not have to worry about sitting it down or trying to push buttons with your hands full, just do the foot, but you missed that it also opens with the key fob also so it is double capable

      +Dan White The sad over drama she did...plus you say the Ford has more room...but you she wished the Honda did... and I can push abutton and my explorer seats my automatically...this is a Honda commercial...Right!!! Oh and on the Explorer you can also remotely fold up the back seats to get even more space under the floor hmmmmm...and finally glad Ford only said 7 and built 2 seats those 3 in the Hondas are jokes

    Yes agreed this Honda is a fine vehicle, no question about it. However, my 2016 Ford Explorer SPORT, will blow the Honda AWAY in EVERY CATEGORY, and not just power, and handling. Yes it was $53K, so its more money, but NO COMPARISON to you Honda Kool aid drinking groupies who won't hear about anything Ford. Forget that my 4,800 lb. Explorer Sport will go zero to 60 in 5.9 seconds, and out handle, and out corner, (yes out corner) any Honda Pilot by a mile. Also do not be so fast to dismiss the Ford technology in the up line models like the Explorer Sport. They are every bit of anything that Honda has to offer. That is a fact, and it is indisputable. This is not your father's Ford any longer.

    Never been a Honda fan due to body lines in some of the their vehicles such as the Ridgeline and the old Pilot. Therefore, not attractive, which leads me to the Explorer. I have a 2014 Limited Explorer with 4x4 and I love it. Comfortable, reliable, good looking, and yes... it sort of looks like Range rover. It has been almost 3 years of driving up to the mountain and to the Bay Area without an issue. Lots of toys to play with and I love my Sirrus radio. So far it is keeper and kids love it too.

    Honda's are certainly reliable. perhaps more reliable than the domestic product. However, they are boring and uncomfortable as heck to drive across longer distances. Speaking from experience as a CRV owner. I'll opt for the explorer. My dad's explorer 98 XLT is still running fantastic and never has had any major issues other than the routine maintenance stuff. Nothing beats the comfort of an American car. Especially for familt road trips. Just my personal opinion.

    Rrr was so hoping you would make a definite choice. I'm actually in this very situation. My choice is pilot or explorer. I've looked at every SUV out there and I've come down to these 2... I love the style of the Ford. But just like in life, I always say there is more to something then just what meets the eye. I want the heart of something. And the pilot is the one with heart for me. Especially after seeing this. It's a big purchase and you want to make the right one. If I was choosing a husband I'd have to go with the pilot. It's what's inside that counts. Looks aren't everything. And actually the pilot is easy on the eyes as well 💜💙😀

    This is bias af. The Ford Explorer (if loaded) can do 10x more things than the Pilot of any trim and package level. Does the Pilot have front messaging seats as an option? Nope. Can the pilot PULL OUT of a parallel parking spot on its own? Nope. I can go on and on.

    I'm neither loyal to Honda or Ford...just some dude doing some car research, but from what I've gathered, you compared the highest trim Pilot to the mid grade Explorer. If you had compared the Explorer Sport or the Platinum to the Pilot EX-L, this would have been a much closer/better comparison.

      What's shameful is in a world where the majority of humans to have ever existed on the planet are malnourished, today we accept and even applaud those with a voluntary condition that is not only unsustainable on a global scale, but also the direct cause of heart failure, which is the #1 cause of death in our country.
      The notion that there's something wrong with pointing out an abundantly apparent, voluntary condition which is more than likely going to directly lead to the cause of death of this individual, is unethical.
