The professional fish/ shrimp discussion is wonderful to hear. I purchased 4 redish coloured shrimp about 10 years ago, they are redder now and they are in every tank and pond I have. My 75 gallon has about 16, 4-5 inch swordtails , and my cherry shrimp are still reproducing and they are a strong red. They are amazing and beautiful adding a dimension to the tank.
Ever time I see shrimp in a thriving tank, I imagine them all wearing hard hats and the biggest one has a new jersey accent hollering directions to the others.
Great podcast. I just recently started keeping shrimp and I have had my ups and downs. I plan on increasing the number of shrimp in my nano tank so I will keep Flip Aquatics in mind.
Okay. I have an embarrassing story to tell, too. The first time I met Rob, he was exceptionally busy with the goings on at Aquashella. In fact, he was running around like his hair was on fire... if he had hair. So, when I approached him to say "Hi" and introduce myself, while courteous, I felt like like I was bothering him and that he didn't have time for a small time schmuck like me. That was 2022. Earlier this year, Chattanooga Ed asked me if I was going to Aquashella Chicago this year, and I was like, I don't know. I had fun the last time, but I didn't want to be a speed bump again. Well, Ed went over my head and talked to Rob for me. The next thing I know, I've have a pass, and I'm sitting next to Big Rich in the Social Media section. I couldn't have been more wrong about Rob. He is one of the nicest guys I've met in this TH-cam world. He talked to me and included me in Shalla stuff as if I actually mattered. Me. At 800 subs, he had me sitting next to a guy with 150k plus subs. Riding a shark. Doing aquascaping with real aquascapers. I was blown away. Thanks, Rob, for being as cool in person as you portray yourself to be on TH-cam.
i set up my shrimp tank in july , just started seeing cherrys and yellows coming out of no where ,and i was in middle of tearing it down to start over with new substrate and other shrinp and BOOM lifted few hides and im in buisness baby!!!
Since you were talking about misunderstanding “fish terms”. When I started fish keeping, I was watching Cory’s channel a lot - and it took me way too long to figure out he wasn’t talking about “planet tanks”. 🤦🏻♂️😳🤪
Awesome topic! I got into shrimp a couple months ago. I first got cherry shrimp and they have done so well. Now I’m going to be getting yellow shrimp! I am on well water and the water is pretty hard.
Now that I have made mistakes with shrimp and can not keep them past one generation, I am looking to take my 10 gallon snail tank and convert it. One thing I learned is Assassin Snails and shrimp don't mix. Also Bettas see shrimp as a snack. I will keep the nerites as they don't other anyone. As I have no LFS with shrimp or swaps, it will be Flip when the time is right.
What are they called when it's black or dark brown with a beige/ yellow stripe down the back? I had one, with two ghosts, and a deep red cherry when i started... Whatever that black one is has absolutely taken over the tank crossbreeding with the ghosts, even with guppies, bettas, tetras and a dwarf frog hunting them....
I had guppies in my 10 gal shrimp tank. Never saw very mny shrimp. Moved my guppies to a 20 gal tank and in 15 min all the shrimp cam out. Wow got alot of shrimp, just hiding
For a matten filter...Would a modified spray bar mounted on the base suffice in lieu of an air line/stone, given a low gph flow? Would it achieve similar results?
@@TheTankTalkPodcast I was thinking if the spray bar were mounted at the base or mid-way on the back of the tank aimed straight up, behind the sponge wall. No uplift tube necessary, as the current from the bar would be moving the water up the way the bubbles would.

Rob is so right... joining a local tropical fish society is one of the best things that has ever happened in my life.
Yes it is!

Ya the assassin snails and bettas can hunt down shrimp. Once they’re out of the tank I think your luck will be better!

The flow would still have to make it through the uplift tube?

Did I hear Flip right that amano shrimp get 3-4 inches long? Nothing I can find says more than 1.5-2.
Ours are about 2”. Jason
So basically with my gh and kh of 24 your telling me I need an ro system and mix it half and half if I want shrimp lol
Ya sounds like it 😀
Well. What shrimp should I get? Because I have hard water with a low PH.
Water hardness is 250. My PH is 6.2. What's available for me to get?
Might be easiest to go with caridina, but add 50% RO to reduce the hardness?
Hmmmm
Nope. Not even close to being the number one podcast. More clickbait and ads than anything.
The universe disagrees with you.
So why do you watch?
