    ABOUT NEW AMSTERDAM
In the wake of the ambulance crash that ended Season 1, medical director Dr. Max Goodwin grieves the death of his wife, Georgia, and learns the difficulties of being a single parent - all the while continuing his commitment to solve systemic health care issues at the hospital. Add in his new responsibilities as a father and with cancer still lingering in the rearview mirror, everyone around Max must wonder how long he can sustain this impossible load. But "How can I help?" is not just Max's catchphrase, it's his reason for living. As long as he's helping others, Max is able to find hope in the most hopeless of places. The cast includes Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman and Jocko Sims, with Tyler Labine and Anupam Kher.

for those who dont know, max and his sister were twins, when they were 8 his sister luna died from a hospital acquired infection, this had inspired max to become a doctor in the first place

How can an 8 year old with an infection be an organ donner? I’d think the infection would make the heart no good

I love how Dr. Sharpe is answering the patient right on Max's back because she knows that he is emotionally involved, and she has to keep him in line with the reality of the risk involved. He's getting irritated with her quick responses, but she knows they have to be honest with the patient. This episode was so touching; i shed some tears on this one. Luna gave her a second chance at life, and she, the recipient, gave Luna's heart a lifetime of love, happiness and adventure. Max was so touched.

I guess he repressed a lot of it from grief. It's pretty common to shove painful memories deep down as a coping mechanism.

But a doctor should never let their emotions get in the way of their duties to their patients. Ever.

It shouldn't have been allowed, period. Look at how he sees the organ transplant as somehow being his sister, when the patient is her own person.

Stuff like this is usually kept strictly confidential. They don’t tell you who the organ came from. Sometimes family members and friends donate to people they know. For him to know is unusual in the real world especially id like someone said, his sister died when he was very young before he became a doctor; which is what was suppose to inspire him to be a doctor. I haven’t been able to watch full episodes but I’m going to have to know.

The donor society can't directly hand out information, but if the family of the donor want to reach out to the recipient and vice versa, they can act as a middle man by essentially passing along notes. If those notes have contact info, it's directly from one of the parties involved, not the society.
When my nephew passed away 18 years ago (he was 5 months old), my sister made the call to donate his organs. He saved 3 people. We didn't get much info on 2 of recipients other than they were middle aged. Through the society and what I mentioned earlier, however, we were able to contact the people who's 1 year old son got his heart. They had even sent us a few pictures over the years. To this day that little boys picture is on my moms fridge next to a picture of my nephew.

Putting all the nonsense here, transplanted organs are meant to extend life by an average of 10 years and being lucky 20. In this case, the situation is even more unreal as the patient has blood issues (hemophilia) and 27 years with the same transplanted heart?
