Hi Bracer Jack In the beginning, when we are supposed to connect an external portable drive to the laptop to store the snapshot system image, how big (of a storage space) should the portable drive be? In your example you used a drive that was 465gb, but can I use a simple thumb drive that is only 16gb in size? Is the size of the snapshot dictated by the amount of programs I may or may not be including in the snapshot? What is the average size of a snapshot? I guess I’m asking these questions to figure out if I need to buy a new external portable drive for this. Thank you very much Bracer Jack.

    • @BracerJack

Assuming you didn't install anything extra or that the laptop didn't come with too much bloatware, a 32GB capacity drive should be enough :D

Also, thanks for showing us how to do this. Damned Windows Update screwed up my PC. Now, my MS Office 2010 Word & Excel won't load up, so I'm been wanting to move to new machine. Already have it setup, but I just have been poking around on moving to new hardware. Because I wanted to find a good way to do backups. I was using Acronis True Image, but it is starting to suck and they have a yearly / monthly fee to keep using it. So, I'm moving to something better that's not broken like Acronis True Image. Used to be top notch, but it is not what it used to be. And, slow as anything now.

I am not sure I got the steps correctly, so:
    1. Activate your new laptop but do not connect to the internet
    2. Download Macrium Reflect using another PC and save it on a thumbdrive
    3. Insert the thumbdrive with Macrium Reflect and install on the new laptop
    4. Run the program and create a snapshot of your new laptop
    5. Keep the thumbdrive in the event you need to restore your new laptop to factory default state.
Question: so in the snapshot you created for your new laptop, you will also have a Macrium Reflect app right?
Since you created a snapshot after this app was installed... Or am I missing something here... 🤔
