    Brian not getting the fifth stone is emblematic of his struggle to try for 5 WSM titles... tried so hard but just couldn't. But who cares, absolute top strongman and absolute top human being and an all round legend. Respects to you sir.

    • @TheBcoolGuy
      @TheBcoolGuy ปีที่แล้ว +62

      I think his career can symbolise man's sisyphusian struggle towards perfection. He came so close to that 5th title so many times, and he could've gotten one before all the ones he actually got if it weren't for that sandbag. Maybe if he'd won then, he wouldn't have had the same drive to keep going and he'd have won two, maybe three times at most. Maybe he would've won all the times that he did anyway and he'd achieve 5 in 2016. These missed opportunities are not something he should regret. They show his humanity, and that he is not invincible or perfect. Ever since this year's contest ended, I've been thinking about 2021 and how, sure there were some abscenses, but he really came second at age 39, and he still had a shot at the win late into the final. I think he would've won if he won the stones, or maybe if he did and Tom dropped a few places behind. That's despite the bad event on the train push. Last year, he held the line and didn't let anyone who wasn't a previous champion beat him. This year, with some leg issues other than the already bothersome hamstring, basically everything that could go wrong went wrong for him, at least in the final, and he still ended up as the 7th strongest man on the planet.

    • @stoneeh
      @stoneeh ปีที่แล้ว +8

      From a certain point on he just became a social media professional first, and athlete second. He never got seriously injured (apart from his biceps tear, which fully healed ages ago), he was always the biggest and most muscular in competition, so there was never a physical reason he shouldn't win a fifth or even sixth title. He just never went ALL IN again like earlier in his career, which is what is needed to be the best. Of course he always had an excuse, another reason why he didn't win ready afterwards. He is one of the greatest, but he had the talent and opportunity to become THE greatest. He will probably carry this regret to his deathbed.

    • @djhenyo
      @djhenyo ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@stoneeh Being the biggest and most muscular isn't what wins a proper strongman competition. Almost everything in your comment makes no sense.

    • @abdullahyusof4739
      @abdullahyusof4739 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@stoneeh I would say that his hamstring tear at the Arnold in 2019 was far worse an injury and one that he never fully recovered from. Brian’s deadlift strength really went down after that and he hasn’t pulled 1000lbs since. Were it not for that, I think he’d easily have another Arnold and WSM title by now

    • @stoneeh
      @stoneeh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@djhenyo muscle mass provides the base to condition it for strength & power. This is the very basics of strength sports: first build mass, then specialize that mass. Brian kept and actually increased his mass over his career via nutrition and gym training, but lost a lot of his specialisation. Because pushing your body to the absolute limit requires drive and guts.. and who needs that extreme stress, just for the possibility of greatness, when instead of training til you puke you can just do what's needed to somewhat stay relevant and maintain your income that pays for all your comforts and your p***y / female.
      Another common plain fact is that if you speak unpleasant truths, you will get attacked for them. The social media career that cost Brian one or multiple more WSM titles has made him a lot of fans. Basically young dumb impressionable little dudes that are easily impressed by older bigger dudes.
      So, I fully expected your dumb delusional defensive reply, and from here on plenty more. You just can't accept that your chosen hero has faults. You at all cost must defend your little dream world where nothing bad can happen, Delusion is all you have and all you will ever, ever have.

After watching you go through so much I decided to get help and get clean and at the age of 44 I reached my goal. I broke the state deadlift record at 750 lbs and I can now say that I'm clean and sober and have told my story to a lot of people and it has helped them as well. After an amazing career, he retired as the 7th strongest man in the world. He went out on top, in his terms. Thanks you Brian Shaw for inspiring so many, including myself, to get out there and be active. What an amazing human he is. Hopefully we see a lot more from him (and Eddie) in the near future. Maybe next year Pa will finally be invited to the Shaw Classic? 😁

    As far as I’m concerned, when it comes to the sport of Strongman, Brian Shaw won. Not just a competition, not just a title, not just a record, but the entire sport of Strongman overall. THE GOAT.

    “Go out and be great” is a fantastic message.
    In a world where the “healthy at any size, accept yourself, love yourself, beautiful the way you are, you are enough” crap is incessantly pushed on us…
    “Be great” is a message I can get behind. Go out and be great folks.
    Don’t be average/typical…. be great.
