Before they actually met in person they had heard each other's music and they had already had great respect for each other as a musician and singer. While Kenny and Lyle was writing this song it started a deep bond of friendship and respect that lasted all the way up to the day that Kenny Rogers died. When they weren't on the road they hung out together, if they happen to be singing in the same city when they were out on the road they hung out together. They were truly more than friends they were like brothers. That day when Kenny Rogers died it just devastated Lionel Richie cuz his best friend had died. Is there a deep love and friendship for each other just proves it doesn't matter on color it depends on each individual person. There's for damn sure, no such thing as race or color when it comes to friendship !!!!!!! R.I.P. Kenny Rogers The world sure does miss your talent. 💔💔💔💔😢😢😢🥺🥺🥺💔💔🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Damn wouldn't it be nice if we could all just be friends together and quit worrying about hate !!! Kenny recorded this song first, but Lionel also released it & both versions are beautiful. That being said, THIS is the best version of it, yet. The love between these two men is a beautiful thing to witness. I've watched this a dozen times at least & I never tire of it. This was just a couple years before Kenny passed & it makes my heart melt when I hear this. Kenny's first performance of this song is also on TH-cam & it's amazing as well. As a 78 year old Detroit suburban guy I would like to see your reaction to Gary Busey as Buddy Holly when in 1957 Holly and Cr I ckets were first wh ite act to play the Appollo in the utube clip APPOLLO 57. I REMEBER WHEN IT MADE THE NEWS SHOWING JUST LIKE KENNY AND LIONEL THAT MUSIC IS COLORLESS AND UNIVERSAL.
