    Check out this 1968 Chrysler 300 that simply screams cool. It also roars power, since it features a legendary Chrysler 440 big block V8! Jaycob, the owner, starts it up and gives us a few revs. Plus, we hear the story of his epic great grandmother who drove the car into her 80s, which was in the 1990s! Check out Rust Belt Garage for more on this and other awesome cars.

    “Hopefully the truck is running next time”, whoops lol. Even with the giant header leaks the 440 rumble sounds good! I never noticed how far away you had to stand to get the whole car in frame when we did this haha.

      @802Garage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was literally standing on the other side of your truck!
      The truck was almost running when I came back through.
      Just, ya know, missing an engine and transmission.

      The V10 I have allegedly weighs around 800 lbs. dressed. After I strip some accessories it should be more like 750, but still ridiculous!
      Definitely would not put the 440 on the HF engine stand. It would fold in half! The old gal needs a lot of love, but Jaycob will give it over time.

    I remember building a 1:25 scale model of the 300 when I was a kid. All survivor cars like that have great stories. My father-in-law has a 1970 'Cuda with the 440 and it can chirp the tires in 3rd! So much torque! He drove my wife to school in it when she was young, years later sold it to a friend, then bought it back a short time later since he missed it so much. Instead of a limo, we rode in the Cuda to our wedding reception. He still doesn't let me drive it 🤣. But I forgive him because he raised his daughter to be a gearhead and not a princess.

    I love those red, non-braided, heater hoses ! Soothingly retro.
    BTW, you lads ought to employ a can of spray ether to save the battery/started motor, when firing up an 'Old Timer'.
    A fun-filled addition at any Birthday, 'blowing-out-the-candles' ceremony at well ! Happy Birthday To You, indeed.

    yea...the kind of big boat that kicked the ass of my mothers 63 dodge Lancer with t aluminum slant 6 up hill and on the half dozen straight ways Vt had at the time but the 300's baby brother leave you behind on the corners quick. Same in snow and mud...and since Vt use to have 11 months of winter and one month of poor skiing called mud season back when these gals were made we Green mountain boys ended up waiting for you or grabbing a tractor or houses to hall that big block with all it wonderful centrifugal force around corners back on drive level land. Now going 'cross Texas...Well.....you'd still be waiting (but keeping a 63 Lancer in you trunk could be handy when you ran out of gas).
    I do believe I touched 93 mph on one straight way but being only a mile long had to back off early. Now going down hill in the white mountains was pretty unlimited but the possible sudden stop when road turned and you didn't did keep me from testing the full potential of gravity assisted top speed. But working with nature created a true gravity/slant 6 hybrid known and the "Gravit 6"

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahaha, love you dad! This one is definitely more of a cool cruiser than a fast car. Great date night car! :D
      The old brakes definitely weren't what they are now in a performance car. Gravit 6, hah!

    • @trentmillet3924
      @trentmillet3924 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@802Garage Rent the trunk to an family needing shelter. Yep back seat, love nest,.... same thing. As a mater of fact if you were a biker needing a cage you could sleep in...you and the 'ol lady could sleep on the back seat and you still had room for your dis-assembled Harley engine & 3 beers next to you just like you would on your own bed at home.
      And you could sneak 5 people and 2 cases of beer into a drive in movie concealed in the trunk(we did 7 once..big ford if I remember I do know 5 girls 2 of us boys mushed together by the weight of 2 seniors closing the trunk lid? I was fine staying for awhile...so was steve. It was the girls want to get out and watch the movie...but i digress) !
      As for being fast...ah find a long straight way and leave her to the floor for 3 to 5 mins. I do know with a factory blueprinted/balanced 440 in a '69 Charger you can ignore 4th gear in till around 130-135 mph. Not saying the Chrysler is quite as fast, sure not as Rabbitey up to speed but then it can do it with 20 ft of air-stream house trailer behind it with the wife, kids and 2 weeks supplies in it.
      Then see how you like them brakes!.
      Big improvement over mechanical brakes though.
      Mechanical brakes...non power steering......double clutching.! Lets put it this way...if you did not have to get OUT of the habit of double clutching.....you'll never get a mechanical car out of the driveway.. Legs not strong enough to push the clutch....then having 12 plus turns lock to lock on the steering wheel....(you're 11 short of making it.)...then if you're not down to the gear going down hill you'd be in going up.....tagging the emergency brake and if under 160 lbs both feet on the brake with shoulder wedged against seat for leverage. Stick with citified cars with heaters, non vacuum windshield wipers and water cooled hood ornaments! Of yes. Look up "How to drive an 18 speed" for some concept of shift and manual transmission.

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I understand the 440 definitely had some power. This one was just before they started killing them due to emissions and fuel restrictions too. Wild interior. Didn't get a chance to look in the trunk. Good thing I'm great at double clutching though! I'll be experiencing some long shifts with that transmission in my garage soon. :P
