No choke makes a 440 hard enough to start. Add in the low battery and shitty quality gas... yeah, not easy. She caught successfully so many damn times too, but just wouldn't stay running.
***** either he bought and installed a carb that doesn't have a choke, or removed the choke from the already installed carb (maybe because it stopped working correctly). For some dudes it doesn't bother them that they have to go through a bit of a routine to get their engine going ;-). Not to mention it doesn't look like this car is driven daily, so cold weather may not be a factor.
FlickFlag Productions a chevy nomatter how long it setsif you put a new carb and a hot battary and some new gas it eill crank up and run the first time eveytime i knoe ive done it
matthew owens that’s a lie my 283 takes half an hour to fully start while holding the gas even with a new carb I’m sick of it so I’m getting rid of it, the manual choke won’t even help it it’ll die if you let off the gas no matter what the choke is set at
Awesome car. And it’s doing real good with the starter only cranking at half speed. I’m guessing with a full battery or a new starter it’d fire a lot easier. My days with carburettors are over, I’ll never go through that again but kudos to you guys doing it all original. Freaking GREAT car👍🏻
Id love to find an old Plymouth Fury highway patrol car with the 440 Interceptor. Makes an awesome sleeper with 4 doors and the plain steel wheels with poverty caps. Even with the 3.23 highway gears those big Mopar's would get out of the hole surprisingly quick. My grandfather was a NY State trooper so I got to ride in a few of those full size Dodge's and Plymouth's with the 440 when I was a kid. He would take it out on the back roads and do some monster burnouts 😆. Thats what first made me a Mopar guy and I still am 50 years later
Just love that idle please bring these days back 😞 I don’t want electric cars - and I’m speaking from someone who was born in 92 - I’m thinking of buying me a 440 long block and finding some old late 70s to early 80s Plymouth sedan or dodge - anything I can drop it in - if I’m lucky enough to find one and just roll with that. The newer cars we have now are amazing but not as exciting and cost a mortgage to drive every month
I hope you will find your engine and car! yeah it's really something else to drive these cars, compared to the stuff the car companies produce these days
@@alexandergronberg87 of course!! A n old heavy sedan with steel on both ends and having it as a project in my garage on the weekends beats owning any sort of hellcat - some of these young punks were shocked when a 93 all motor fox body smoked a hellcat challenger 😂😂

Holy shit man...sounds like you need to back the timing off bout 10 degrees...sounds like it’s trying to kick back while starting. And it’ll always fire back thru tha carb and die till it’s set right
It seams that the younger generation doesn't know how to start a cold engine without excessive starter grinding. Very sad but the old Mopar sounds great once started.
Sick car man!!! That engine sounds beastly. 440 is the best motor and scariest of any car ride i've taken. Speaking of crappy gas? Is there an additive or way around that for the engines to run better?
Thanks man. Yeah it's a nice engine. Now i am rebuilding it, new cam, lifters and valvetrain. Should sound even better, and some more power. Regarding additives, there is all kinds of additives for sale, but my opinion is that the best one is just to have fresh gas in the tank :)
That is an 2,5" X-pipe. I think ive had about 13 variations with the exhaust system on that car, changing diameters, curves, straight/H/X, and i must say with the X pipe i felt a noticable change in the low rpm torque.
Put a manual choke on and please use 100 avgas in that thing. If it hasn't been modified for this new Wesson oil gas-it'sgonna crap out on you. Been there-done that-it's costly. Shit-the new cars won't run on the pump gas today. Had a lot of problems. And it doesn't matter what brand you buy.
There are 106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Nice to hear from people who also know about the problems with these lovely old cars. Very nice
alexandergronberg87 I enjoyed hearing the old V8 cranking over and sputtering to start.
auaiao9 I agree, it is nice. Gives the car character and personality.

+atthegatesofurizen I bought this kind of "racing" carburator so it did not have a choke. This is a summer car, and I rarely start it when cold.
Thank You ! I'm like that in the morning too .........I spit and cough and fart a couple times then I'm good !!

Sweet car. Put an electric choke setup on that Eddy carb and back the timing off about 3 or 4 degrees and she’ll start much better.
It's a shine runner!! White Lightning forever!!
LOVE THOSE WEDGE MOTORS. TORQUE IS KING.
Fix the cigarette lighter
Classic Mopar start up. I also installed a more powerful starter. Still too a few times to turn over. 440 needs plenty of gas
Its ironic that they give you a ticket for loud exhaust. But this is a police car lol. Nice car man sounds great
Thank you
I'm not a Chrysler fan but that big block does play the sweetest music !
Love where the exhaust exits!
Thanks. Got the idea from my boat
Love that sound. Guess I’m buying an old Chrysler with a 440 and straight piping it

These 440's were called " Mustang Slayers " No Mustang could even come close to beating them in the quarter mile
Nice fact, thanks!
With the right driver and 4spd and Dana 60 posi trac and 4.10-4.56 gears nothing could touch a 440
I would love to have a old monico. You never see them anymore.
Yeah, but this one you can see cruising around in the south part of Finland 🙂👍

Why most of those cold starters have no clue about what they are doing?
It's got a cop motor, cop suspension, cop tires.....
these were the low compresion 440. aprox250hp, 1971 was the last high compression motor for anybody
Engine internal combustion engine
Motors are electric
Engines run on fuel

al reynolds thanks! I think it was a combination of bad battery, bad ignition coil, and todays worthless gasoline. Today it starts a lot better
The exhaust diameter looks a little bit small.
gotta remember its twin exhaust also
Why the cops take so long to respond to a call 😂
Miss the older MOPAR motors
1: Get a good battery, that is absolutely terrible for all components involved in the start up.
2: You have one might sounding 440. :D
sounds good
