I wonder what kind of precautions the breeder takes with the water & water tanks to eliminate threats of contaminates or is that an issue? When they are moved around & stored? My sister owned a fish & tackle shop in Indiana & she had to be careful with her tanks. But they weren't used for Koi.
May I kindly clarify how KOI's survive in mud ponds without oxygen supply via pumps, filters to keep nitrate levels down, cloudy and muddy water when we have been told they need good supply of Oxygen, powerful filters, water test kits, anti chlorine and various treatments to keep them healthy? Plus we have been told to float new KOI's in new waters for them to adjust for temperature, water quality etc when these very expensive Koi's switched from muddy to clear water and then to holding tanks with treated water suddenly? Please advice.
They grow them in mud ponds like the ones in the video. In the mud ponds, they grow naturally given insects are also available as food. The size depends on how many years the nishikigoi (koi) had been raised in the mud pond.
