  • A backpack tutorial has been one of the MOST requested videos lately. And I’m with you, the backpack is one of my favorite bags to use. But I have been extra picky about which pattern I wanted to conquer. It has to be practical and useable. And then I saw the Trailblazer! This is such a great backpack that you can use for all of your outings. Have fun!

Hi, I am so pround of myself see me making this bag because of you. I am started making bag 1 month ago because of you. I bought a lots of patterns followed your tutorial and wonder I might not have abilities to make it. But due to I have a good teacher like you. Step by step pause and play many times since I am just a beginner. I made many bags now and even my husband surprise because he never saw me done such a thing like this. Thank you so much for your kindly to film all of the best video tutorial. God blessing you to be a great teacher.

Such a cute bag! The only thing I would do differently is to add a zipper at the bottom of the back slip pocket to make it optional to hook onto your travel on suitcase or to use it as a regular pocket when not traveling. 😃

Made this today. I messed up on the pattern size, like many have mentioned, so guessing at 85% probably, but it is still awesome. Followed you step by step, pause, rewind, watch again and again. You are a fabulous teacher. Bag stock should be very proud to have you to bring this into motion!

See my comment. Printed out the pattern and it printed at something smaller that correct. Have no idea how to fix that ~ this printer always prints other designers pattern at 100%, which leads me to believe this is a Bagstock Designs problem. Ugh. I hope they are responsive. I wanted to make this now … like, now.

I answer yes because then hopefully they Will have hyperlinks to fabric materials etc. that we can purchase (and you get partial credit) for the project. Being more senior I am not going out to stores much anymore so I have to order in fabric. Jess OklaRoots they had a lot. As a matter of fact, everything else was depleted but Walmart had a lot of canvas and croc white and gold vinyl! The croc had no price, so they gave me the same price as canvas.

I’m going to make my 4th one. First one I reduced the pattern and used it as my everyday purse and have literally worn it out. The 2nd and 3rd ones were gifts to size for back packs. Now my 4th will be reduced size again. Thanks, Jess, for the consistent motivation.

I've made my own patterns, copying a loved purse/pack that had worn out, but next challenge was something like my old sportsac but, with back pack as well as shoulder strap potential... working out the bugs (making my own pattern) can be a work I don't feel like doing and your pattern comes very close, with improvements and, with a full video! Interestingly, one reason I wanted the shoulder/back pack was the biggest test for a purse, going to Disneyland.. carting a days worth of gear, the ease of back pack or shoulder when snacking, keeping track of phone, sweater, charger, sun glasses... and, a Mickey Mouse soft pretzel... I see SO many helpful hints here, as soon as I finish taxes, this is my next project... hopefully, all the quarantine and pass issues will end and I will be able to take it to Disneyland some day (almost two years, sigh). Questions, I want to make top zipper run fully to the end, I planned to use less lining and foam and make a more sportsac-ish, softer bag... and move the zippered pockets down like sportsac... any glaring reasons these changes won't work? and, curious... also shopping a new sewing machine... advice? actually, going to purchase the pattern now... if I have it in front of me, I will look at fabrics and start was soon as the work table is clear... thanks for the video!

I used this tutorial and made this bag last night, I used the pattern printout to cutout the pieces but I think it is smaller than it is supposed to be. I didn't realize it till I was halfway through cutting it out so I couldn't start over so I went with it. Anyway I made it using your tutorial and it came out beautifully. I love the way it looks even if it is a little smaller. It won't fit my laptop but I am definately gonna try again. Thank you so much for such a well put together tutorial it makes it so easy without having to fiddle with a paper pattern. Bless you.
