Not surprised you've never heard of them.
They have only been going for nearly 40 years.
Magical every year - a back catalogue to die for - and still killing it today.
You have an amazing amount of catching up to do. Enjoy it all.
Steve Rothery is a killer guitarist - right up with Gilmour - and H has a great singing voice and stage presence.
Their music has been crowdfunded for many years now, and at the concert you watched was a 4 day weekend event with many thousands of fans from all over the world together.
Electric atmosphere, and the boys from the band mingled with the fans for the whole weekend.
No other band comes close to the experience.
and has such down to earth members - no "I'm a star" mentality here.
Suggestions - "Gaza", "The Space", "The Great Escape", "The Sky Above The Rain "This Strange Engine", and from the earlier era, "Sugar Mice", "Grendel", "Script For A Jesters Tear", "Fugazi" and many many more.

Personally I find that Rothery's guitar sounds more like Steve Hackett than Gilmour, but eh, 2 great guitarists.

Great track, and this recording really showcases the sound of Pete's bass, I love that. Marillion not only did the crowdfunding for most albums the last 20 years, but the actually pioneered the idea of crowdfunding.

Quite simply, one of my favourite songs, but Marillion account for a few of those. If I could hold my breath for ten minutes, I would during this performance. It feels like that, anyway. Steve Hogarth goes right out on the edge during live performances, and that's what makes them more special. More Marillion: Out of this World, King, The Great Escape, Splintering Heart.

Glad you gents enjoyed! You touched on it but there is something very special about the connection between this band and their fans, exemplified by their biannual conventions where 3000 fans from all around the world take over a Centre Parcs in Holland and get three nights of gigs (usually about 7 hours of Marillion on stage across the 3 nights) and various other events - I've been to the last 5 of these, and in 2015 appeared on that very stage with my team as that year's Marillion quiz winners - we went up against the band in the final and trounced 'em (we weren't the first team to beat them, but we seem to have been the last, after that they've stopped having a final and just present a trophy to the winning team!) - now, I don't known what this says about me, but that's my proudest achievement in life. Becoming an RTTC patron is also in my top 5, so I think you could say I'm a bit of an underachiever generally!! ;-)

haha you always make me laugh Joseph and that is greatly appreciated it as oftentimes I need it. Didn't know we had a celebrity in our midst, at least in the Marillion atmosphere, and honestly does any other atmosphere really matter? I super enjoyed watching this and the sound!

@@ReactionsToTheClassics The song "House" brought me to them. I was amazed that a song can be like a story, lyrically and musically. They are the best at that. It's open to differences of opinion, but Marillion made four albums with their original siniger, Fish, and attracted all the fans they were ever going to attract, due to the severe limitations of Fish as a lead singer. Fish was also the chief lyricist and composer for the band, and was a 6''5" dynamic stage presence, and those who loved him and his music really, really loved him. Then he left. There is some conflict as to why, but many of the fervid Fish fans quit their fandom in disgust at the change. They never gave the "new guy", Steve Hogarth, a chance. Then the band had the classic '80's-style argument with their record label: "Give me hit radio singles!!", which the band balked at, bristling at the effort to collar their collective muse. The record label stopped promoting them or their CD's, while still taking a significant cut of the sales revenue. So, Marillion fired their record label (they went through two or three labels but never got what they wanted in the way of support), and while running out of money to cover tour expenses and time in the studio working on new music, they happily stumbled upon crowd-funding as a replacement for money fronted by record companies, and they were able to continue touring and making new music. They have a new CD to be released in 2021. You will still be able to catch a live show oonce the Covid madness has run its course, too. But they discovered that it is tough to get songs played on the radio without the clout of a record label behind the push for some airtime, or get write-ups in the rock music press. On top of that, it you accept the most common label slapped on their music (symphonic prog), they are makding a type of music that was last popular with the public in the mid-1970's.
They have been making brilliant music, songs just as good as "Neveland", since 1989, but people generally have never heard of them due to the lack of radio play. Marillion long ago stopped caring about not being a household name. They now run their own label. They don't have to put up with any music industry bulllshit. The make whatever type of song as suits their fancy at the moment, and their crazed, worldwide fan base sends enough money their way in a constant stream that they can live comfortably. I've met Steve Hogarth at the 2019 Marillion Weekend event, and it was like meeting an old friend who just happened to be the greatest male singer in popular music right now.
BTW, if you couldn't catch all of the lyrics in Neverland, it just happens to be the greatest love song ever written for an older couple.

I just stumbled upon your Magnum video today and was so glad to hear you did a reaction of Marillion. They have been my favorite band since the 80s when I discovered them as an exchange student in Germany. Their music is so emotive - especially their live performances. I would echo all of the other comments which have listed many great tracks. But my current favorite song (they rotate from time to time) is "The Only Unforgivable Thing". It's a deeper cut (only on their 2 disc version of Marbles, excluded from the single disc version). Here's a link:

Marillion are a album band, great songs made greater when heard as part of the album that's the best way to listen to this amazing band. You've got a lot to get through, they are all high quality but the best are maybe:
    Marbles
    Brave
    Afraid of Sunlight
    FEAR
    Seasons End
    Sounds that can't be made
    Clutching at Straws
    Misplaced Childhood
