- All tropical storms that hit North American continent or any place in the northern hemisphere spin counterclockwise. The reason has to do with a phenomenon called the Coriolis effect.

Nuh, uh, Typhoon Vamei formed into a fully healthy typhoon with a centre within 1° north of the equator, and parts of the typhoon were in the Southern Hemisphere. This event happened in 2001, if you want to Wikipedia this

There's another mistake other than the distorted map. The Coriolis Effect does not cause wind moving east and west to curve, as the animation shows.
Yes, this is a mistake.
Think of the air as a longitudinal column.
In the Northern Hemi, the head of the column will encounter air moving East-West at a lower speed than the tail and will be forced to slow down while the tail will continue in an East-West direction as its original speed resulting it to get ahead of the head of the column when compared against a North-South longitudinal line.
So what results is a column of air heading North that veers off to the left.
The exact opposite happens to the cold air column heading South; it veers to the right.
Hence the counter clockwise direction if a Hurricane in the Northern Hemi.
