      Hey My Guy,
I was very surprised that you shot a short film. I completely understand everything that you went through creating it. To be honest, I actually shot a short film last year at the University of Memphis with 2 very good friends of mine. We all learned everything that you mentioned in the video. I'm going to leave a link for you if you'd like to check it out.

Someone asked Denzel Washington for some acting advice, he simply said “keep it simple” and that applies rather your behind the camera or in front. That how I’m able to get so many short films done.

That 50mm 1.2 is boss level. The slider is fire as well. The 50mm 1.2 is so wide open at its max, you can use natural light with no issues.

Im watching this as I'm building large miniature scenery for a clients music video, I worked on ' BLADE RUNNER 2049' and 'Ghost in the shell' building props and City Buildings , everything you said is Straight up, alot of the time its fear of failure, but you just have to shoot something, just go for it, every time you do it it clears your head and the vision you want gets clearer, all the best from New Zealand ,love what you do sir.

10:03 was def the MONEY SHOT of the film man. I work on bigger films with big crews quite a bit and it's super inspiring to see, how you got some shots that would take a professional crew hours sometimes to set up, all by yourself! Yes you may be more limited and a crew will give you more reliable results but at the same time, a lot of creativity can get lost in the machninery of it all. Bottom line, keep doing what you're doing, it's inspiring!

  • @K1ANOOP

You found making a short film harder than a music video?! Wow. Music videos including, yours look crazy compared to short films imho BUT it was great to know that someone as experienced as you found it took you longer to complete it and the length you’d initially anticipated too.
It has taken me until last October to make short films to a level I was starting to be pleased with and when I did, I got headhunted by The LADbible Group (about a week after publishing it to my TH-cam channel) for whom I’m in the final stages of post-production as a freelancer, with my first short doc for them related to the passion projects I’ve been doing for the last couple of years.
I know you’re transitioning away from music videos but your content is still and always insightful and very much appreciated. So thank you.

Loved hearing about the process! What you said about planning is so true! When we were filming Cold Island we tried to plan everything and on the second day weather messed up our entire schedule and video and we had to roll with the punches. Sometimes the best things happen though when you leave room for spontaneity, also a great opportunity to learn.

I love the perspective. I think all of us creators get stuck in our own head while we are creating and when we release it. We want it to make an impact and tell a dope story in an interesting way. The takeaway for me was; when things suck, create, when things are going up, create. Thanks for the inspiration homie ✌🏾

Ok so I'm not sure if you will read this comment but...transparency, this is my first time commenting but I am a LONG time viewer/subscriber. Let me say that this piece right here did it for me, brother. I am ACHING to make a short film so badly. My problem is that I just don't feel "good enough" yet. I keep telling myself that I will keep making these vlogs and adding little touches of cinema here and there until I am "ready". I am learning that the truth of it all is that I need to just DO IT. Bad or good, I will learn something from it and I will be able to apply it to the next go. There is no real, "ready".
Your film almost brought me to tears because it was so good. Seeing it with filmmaker eyes is so much more special. For real. The feeling is just magical. I am inspired and ready to start building towards my first REAL film project. Like I said, not sure if you will see this but I needed to say it nonetheless.
    Bro...THANK YOU.🙏🏾✊🏾

This is awesome as well as the short film. Your choice to use sunlight is a great one as it communicated "this is what it is like at home", and showed us we can do the same. The quality you got from those sunlight shots are so good because of your skill and your camera. Even the shadows look good. Of course your story is fire. Please do more of this as you feel like it.

I AGREE COMPLETELY. I just shot my first AND second shorts in the last month (film riot short contests), and it takes SO MUCH MORE TIME than I originally anticipated. Very few things go the way you think they will, but at the end of the day, if you tell the story, you get the job done. Really proud with how they turned out.
Keep up the good work, and MAKE MORE SHORTS.

Hey YCImaging, keep at it. The more you do it, the better you get at it. I love film making. Everything that goes into it from coming up with an idea to final product. My problem is that I'm a 1 man team. I don't have anybody like minded as myself to collaborate with. People around me are just too busy or aren't interested in film making, but I'm not going to let that stop me. Just like said b4, keep it truckin'.

I really enjoyed the short film. I thought it was great that you included the part about taking a break, and relaxing to rest your mind/creativity. I find, with myself, I’m hyper self critical and I get stuck in these pockets of quitting because I’m not good enough for my own expectations. “Why isn’t this beat working? Why can’t I write a good melody? I just suck at this.” And I originally thought that’s what you were trying to portray. But then you got up and started creating again, and that, for some reason, was a really powerful, inspirational moment for me. I really appreciate you sharing your short film, and the rest of your videos.

I watched the Short film and this review. Very inspiring for a super beginner like myself. You took advantage of a lot of hacks doing this yourself. Proud of you and look forward to more content. Your videos are dope. And I pay attention to the visuals so I notice the hard work man! Keep it up

I thought I commented on this video, but I rewatched the TH-camr and I am always impressed by your videos. They are inspirational and gets me to thinking what am I not doing enough of? Thank you for making this BTS video, always love hearing filmmakers' thought processes when shooting or directing.

Incredible, you remind me of myself kind of. I started with music videos and did nothing else for the last 3 years. But I always had this desire to make a short film, that's what I wanted this whole time, telling myself those music videos were my way up the ladder until I'm experienced enough. This became an excuse pretty quickly...But this whole pandemic situation changed me. I had so much time to care about my needs again...and then I saw the "Stay at Home Short Film Challenge" on FilmRiot and said fuck it. It is just a minute long, but then and there I made my first short film...not the one I had envisioned all these years, and not the big winner of the challenge, but one I am super proud of nonetheless. And now I'm ready to throw myself into it. I want to create, I want to tell stories.
Keep doing what you love. Your work is wonderful and even though it seems hard sometimes, I think it's always worth it. We're always learning, doesn't matter how long we're in the business already.
    Best wishes from Germany.

Quality was great man! I was watching it on my 4k tv and would've never thought it was shot in 1080p. Lighting, color, all of it was nice! Keep going! I think I saw one comment that is really constructive which is to minimize the talking and use the facial expressions to communicate your thoughts. Other than that, great job homie! 💪🏾😤

I have to say that what I like the most is the color grading, its amazing.I actually thought the sound of the paper when you open the book was a bit to much, but don't get me wrong I loved this.
Like you say people are so obsessed over technical stuff that they forget the story.

Great little behind the scenes man. One thing I'll always remember when I took film at Uni was that they always stressed a pretty picture will never counter bad audio, but great audio can forgive a bad image.
