My wife just left me and my 2 children after I disassociated from the WT. The elders told her if her spirituality was being affected it would be best for her to separate from me. The cult gets deep in peoples mind. I hope more and more will wake up. The best thing you and other ExJWs can do is make videos exposing this insane Cult. I personally was never a JWs but did so called Bible Studies with 2 elders. The lack of critical thinking, integrity and transparency was astonishing especially when they claimed that they were Gods only true religion on Earth. I had one of those shaming talks done at the end of the two part Sunday meeting. Of course they won't mention names, but everyone was rubber necking to eyeball me in the back. Then I get called into that back room over a speeding ticket, although it was for a 152mph in a 30mph zone. Oops. Found out I was in the local newspaper.
Of all the things they could shame you for, a speeding ticket? While that is a problem in of itself, it isn't their problem, and it's not like they're going to help you solve it either. JWs are well-known for being hardcore busybodies. I never understood why the JW elders have to stick their nose in other people's business.

Great testimony. I'm sure many people can relate. This happens in all religions sadly. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me." There is freedom and salvation in Christ and the Bible doesn't mention any denominations interestingly enough. Relationship with Jesus, our Lord and Savior, is a completely different thing than adherence to a religion.
Fortunately, this form of control and repression does not occur in all religions. If you are a catholic, as an example, you can do whatever you want. The same in other religions. Every single relationship is conditional in JW’s, friendship is just one minor thing. I wish I had done as you have. I came in at about 18 and was a reasonably good footballer (soccer). I was hoping to play at the top level in my country. The elders warned me that if I continued playing competitive football I would not be eligible for 'priveleges' in the congregation. Short story, I dumped all my friends and stopped playing. 20 years later, with a major mental illness and not having kicked a ball in that time, I was encouraged by my wife to start playing again. It was good to do that but I still mourn the loss of my health and the simple love of a game.
My wife started competing in the Flying Pig Marathon races ,and became the subject of gossip .....even if they don't mark you ....they will gossip ......it's a very sad way to live ,and they call it The Way of Life !.....the way of misery !

To hear your story it always makes me confused ...I love to write songs and poems but, for some reason it always seems like I'm being judged but, if I were to invent something that doesn't seem to be a problem.
All religions created by man will have men who think things are good/bad and don't want to associate with you if you don't believe what they believe/do what they do. People don't like/associate with Jehovah's Witnesses to me mainly because they don't celebrate Christmas. Yet they will be friendly with other religions who don't even worship the same God or practice their beliefs that they don't know anything about. A lot of people that call JWs devil worshipers, slam the door in their face, made fun of them, were prejudice to them and even killed them because they believed their own religion was the true religion. Yet if you ask one of them to tell you to show you in the Bible where Jesus birthday is, they can't tell you and when they do find out it's not in there, they will keep celebrating the holiday because it's tradition and they don't want to go up against/be outcasts by the majority in their family/community. But people will hate people they don't really know anything about, heard hear say from the majority or had a bad experience and think all is like that. But all branches in a religion aren't extreme like others because of the leaders/people in that community. Different cities, states, countries don't think/act exactly the same. I see religion's places of worship like a fast food franchise. They're supposed to be doing the same things but they interpret things/act differently, so you may not get the same customer service at the locations. Despite the stories I've heard. I don't believe all Catholic churches are raping kids, I don't believe Baptist churches only want your money to pay for their expensive homes/cars or all Muslims are blowing up places. People can say all religions are cult like, they all think they are the true religion and want people to join and do what they say. You just have to have a strong mind to deal with people in every aspect in life and not let people bully you. When it comes to religion I believe we have a creator, we should treat people with respect and that's about far as it goes. I don't believe in one religion is the true religion, so I just agree to disagree.

Every single relationship is conditional in JW’s, friendship is just one minor thing. This religion, like Jake Altworldly said, can break the bonds we don’t even imagine is possible to break, the blood bonds, the parents and children relationship. Playing hockey? It’s nothing. All Watchtower did was 1. Inserted God between all relationships, 2. Make God and Watchtower interchangeable, essentially replaced God, all through years and years and years of indoctrination.

I wish I had done as you have. I came in at about 18 and was a reasonably good footballer (soccer). I was hoping to play at the top level in my country. The elders warned me that if I continued playing competitive football I would not be eligible for 'priveleges' in the congregation. Short story, I dumped all my friends and stopped playing. 20 years later, with a major mental illness and not having kicked a ball in that time, I was encouraged by my wife to start playing again. It was good to do that but I still mourn the loss of my health and the simple love of a game.

All religions created by man will have men who think things are good/bad and don't want to associate with you if you don't believe what they believe/do what they do.
People don't like/associate with Jehovah's Witnesses to me mainly because they don't celebrate Christmas. Yet they will be friendly with other religions who don't even worship the same God or practice their beliefs that they don't know anything about. A lot of people that call JWs devil worshipers, slam the door in their face, made fun of them, were prejudice to them and even killed them because they believed their own religion was the true religion. Yet if you ask one of them to tell you to show you in the Bible where Jesus birthday is, they can't tell you and when they do find out it's not in there, they will keep celebrating the holiday because it's tradition and they don't want to go up against/be outcasts by the majority in their family/community. But people will hate people they don't really know anything about, heard hear say from the majority or had a bad experience and think all is like that.
But all branches in a religion aren't extreme like others because of the leaders/people in that community. Different cities, states, countries don't think/act exactly the same.
I see religion's places of worship like a fast food franchise. They're supposed to be doing the same things but they interpret things/act differently, so you may not get the same customer service at the locations.
Despite the stories I've heard. I don't believe all Catholic churches are raping kids, I don't believe Baptist churches only want your money to pay for their expensive homes/cars or all Muslims are blowing up places.
People can say all religions are cult like, they all think they are the true religion and want people to join and do what they say. You just have to have a strong mind to deal with people in every aspect in life and not let people bully you. When it comes to religion I believe we have a creator, we should treat people with respect and that's about far as it goes. I don't believe in one religion is the true religion, so I just agree to disagree.
